What a joy and delight this hotel is. The Michelin starred restaurant however was a massive (& expensive) disappointment - there are many more, much more pleasant places to eat outside the hotel. Stay at he Grosvenor, but don't waste your time or money at the restaurant.

This was our first visit to chester and we could not have chosen a hotel in a better location, in the heart of the city, beneath the famous clock and next to the city walls. This is an elegant but cosy hotel. Our room was a good size for a city centre hotel, with a huge, comfortable king size bed, two armchairs and a small table. There were toiletries in the bathroom and the whole room was well equipped, apart from the lack of tea/coffee tray, which was a little surprising. However, on arrival we were asked if we wanted hot drinks delivered to the room before breakfast and we could have chosen to do so. The bar and restaurants are beautiful rooms, with lots of polished wood, sparkling glass and a choice of either tables and chairs or comfy sofas. These are well used by residents and customers who have just come for lunch, dinner, afternoon tea or morning coffee , but despite being busy, it was never necessary to wait for service as there were always plenty of staff on duty. All the staff were efficient and friendly and we received excellent restaurant recommendations from the door man and the luggage boy,who always had a smile and a greeting for us. We ate breakfast in the hotel and although the choice was small, it was always freshly prepared - no buffet here! We had drinks in the bar- a choice of excellent wines, gin and tonic, mojito and various coffees- all of which were well presented and no more expensive than most hotels we have stayed in.
We had an excellent stay at the Grosvenor and would definitely return if we wanted to visit chester again.

We visited here on Friday afternoon just to have a nice cocktail in classy surroundings and we were not disappointed. There is a good choice of cocktails from the tradition, raspberry martini to the slightly more usual, a chilli mojito served in a jam jar.

The service was typical of this type of establishment, good, old fashioned and efficient.

We were served a good selection of complimentary nuts.

The bar had a buzz about it, and was made up of people having a light lunches and drinks.

We loved it and hope to stay and dine next time.

Stayed here for a monthly conference with a group of colleagues. We held our conference in the Executive boardroom which is an excellently appointed room for a meeting. All the little details have been considered like a power socket per delegate and ideal shape boardroom style to encourage debate.

Food and drinks were provided throughout and i couldn't fault their quality. Kimberley looked after us throughout the day and evening and nothing was too much trouble, she dealt with the final requests at gone midnight with the same professionalism as those at 8.30am. She even brought our check in up to us which made things very convenient, more hotels should do this for big groups.

Rooms are beautifully appointed with large comfortable beds and luxurious amenities.

The only small niggles: the hotel is a bit confusing to get around, the continental breakfast was limited and a bit of a disappointment. Other than that it was nigh on perfect! Thank you!

The Chester Grosvenor is a warren of corridors leading to bedrooms,a little confusing if you enter via the parking area as you have to use the lift and walk some distance to the reception area - this of course is easily accessible should you enter at the front of the hotel!

Several reviewers have commented on not having a hospitality tray - an e-mail to the hotel sorted this out for us, and on being appraised our stay was to celebrate a birthday the reception left a hand written post card in our room to wish a "happy birthday" which was a nice touch.

We have stayed in many hotels some more expensive than others, and while The Chester Grosvenor is lovely, we have had more luxurious towels and robes in less expensive surroundings, and had much nicer views! ( flat roof, fire escape on this occasion ).

The diligent attentive staff are what make The Chester Grosvenor 5 star, nothing is too much trouble, staff are in abundance at meal times, but they are not at all intrusive, personally I could not work in the hotel industry, on several occasions we witnessed guests be less than polite with staff, the staff took it in their stride, we thought it a disgrace, manners cost nothing.

We ate in La Brasserie which is a little less formal than Simon Radley, the food was delicious and plentiful ( a party by us were a little perturbed to have to pay extra for vegetables which are deemed a side dish ), oh and if you are asked if you require water with your meal - it costs £4.50.

Continental Breakfast is served at the table and again it was very nice, hot food is available for a supplement of £7.50, personally we thought there was more than enough, fresh fruit salad, fruit juices, porridge and a basket of pastries along with tea, toast and jams, what more can one want
( ham and cheeses perhaps).

We really enjoyed our stay, the hotel was spotless throughout, and should you choose To have a drink in The Arkle Bar ensure to take advantage of the waiter service to table but don't eat too any olives and nuts or else you will not have much room for your meal ! Yes the costs of drinks are expensive, but we found them comparable to other hotels we have stayed in, and we ALWAYS take a few bottles with us for in our room for "pre drinks".

The bed was huge - two beds together, comfortable, soft, lovely sweet smelling bedding.

We did not stay on " an offer" apparently there were some available........

Apart from our lack of a "view" another criticism would be the wifi connection, every time the mobile divice was switched off ensued logging back on, and sometimes the password was not immediately recognised, very annoying.

There was lots to see at The Chester Grosvenor and Iam sure we missed a lot , we had a lovely stay, surprisingly didn't purchase any chocolates from the institu establishment, perhaps, next time.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor - very quiet but limited view

this was a birthday present, room was an executive and was very nice however overlooking the most awful building ever. The toiletries were not to good either so bring your own. Had to ask for tea and coffee for the room then only given 2 breakfast tea bags.Very comfy bed and lovely bathroom but very small tv for such a big room.
We had dinner in the Brasserie, ok but nothing to go oh that was great , or rush to go back for.
Been before for afternoon tea which is nice.
You have to pay for the car park even though discounted was £8.50.
Staff were helpful and the Brasserie staff are exceptionally nice.

Just come back from a fantastic spa break at this hotel with my daughter. Fabulous place, staff are wonderful and very helpful. Couldn't fault any thing. Food was particularly good and the rooms were lovely with big comfy beds. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
