Booked a quick weekend break through Last Minute and decided to choose Chester Grosvenor, what a top choice. Great location, right in the centre of the town but with parking included. Friendly staff and great service. On arrival we were instantly upgraded from a Exec Double to a Junior Suite which was huge. Two room suite with all the comforts you would expect from 5*. Bar and Rest were fantastic and reasonable priced for a 5*. Worth the money as weekend break or romantic treat. Will be using again if I travel to Chester. A +++

I stayed in this hotel having booked a competitively priced but not cheap room on hotels.com. The rate was £240 for the night and for that I would expect something special. Initially the "standard room" shown to us was down a fire escape corridor and was so small and badly laid out that you could not have walked between the bed and armchair. I complained and after several minutes of being told I would have to pay extra for a better bedroom we were shown to a larger "standard" room. This room was perfectly satisfactory. Nothwithstanding, the above, my other impressions of the hotel were great. The location was excellent/the breakfast superb and the staff extremely well trained. It is a beautiful hotel, but was it worth £240 for the night- Don't think so. PS: the grill restaurant around the corner is excellent for dinner.

We stayed at this hotel as a last minute weekend away. I had always wanted to visit Chester and this was the perfect opportunity. The hotel was fabulous. It was tastefully decorated, very traditional but very grand at the same time. This hotel had everything. We booked a nice double room and got upgraded free of charge upon check in. Our luggage was taken direct to our room and the concierge were ever so helpful. He gave us an overview of the hotel facilities and talked us through some of the rooms features. We could not have asked for better service, nothing was too much trouble. The bathroom was amazing. It has a very grand marble wet-room complete with monsoon shower and additional massage jets. The best shower i have ever had. The breakfast was fab and was delivered on time to our room. The location was so central. You walked out of the main door and you were on the high street. Never stayed at a hotel in the UK with facilities/service like this. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Its suits all ages. A perfect place for a romantic weekend and quality time with your loved one. We will be back!!!! This hotel is worth the money, no other hotel we have stayed at compares!!! You will not be disappointed!!

We stayed here for an early Valentine's break last year and what a treat it was. We were sat down for check-in, then we were escorted to our rooms and shown where things are and how to use things. We stayed in a standard room but this is anything but standard. Decorated really nice with a separate entrance porch into the room so you have 2 doors separating you from the corridor.
The food for breakfast was great with a nice, different selection. The bar, just off from where the resaurant is, is very relaxing.
The hotel is just amazing, in a great location and amazing service. We hope to be going back soon to be treated like royalty!!!

Just before Christmas we joined a couple of friends for a weekend shopping trip in Chester, it was a special treat of a weekend and the hotel was ideally centrally located.
Firstly, like all guests booking in, we were asked to sit at a table in the main reception area and asked to open an account to the value of £200, JUST in case we used the hotel facilities (bar, food, spa etc). This payment was expected up front by either cash or credit card and nothing to do with the room booking nor was this advised to us in advance.
If you had skrimped & saved to stay there in the first place asking for another £200 before you even get to your room....just in case you use any facilities strikes me as all wrong??? If you didnt have £200 available would they turn you away??????? - YES THEY WOULD - BE WARNED!! even if you can pay for your stay.
As it happens we were so cross... that we felt we couldnt be trusted we paid the £330 odd for the room in cash there and then and also the extra £200 requested in cash. So the hotel had over £530 in cash from us before we even saw the bedroom!!
The room however was nice, the bed was comfy, the location was perfect. the dining room staff friendly. The booking in procedure and management staff 100% horrendous.
As a matter of principal we refused to use any of the hotel facilities apart from one round of drinks in the bar which for four people was £40 - needless to say we paid cash at the bar - refusing to use any of the £200 account we were FORCED to open on arrival.
On leaving, as we had used some items from the minibar, it left a balance to be returned to us of approx £180 which the manager then wanted to return to us by credit to our credit card which takes upto 5 days.....despite us paying cash on arrival!!! We insisted on a cash return which caused major problems & was given to us mainly in £5 notes !!!!
Then some days after we arrived home we were told by letter that the minibar bill was wrong. however one item had never been replaced from the first night and we had not therefore used it....however the hotel deducted this cost from our friends credit card some days later......this was not their bill, we had paid and booked in as seperate couples, they had paid by card, we had paid by cash, so the hotel just thought they would deduct from our friends card with not a word or a polite request, and at the end of the day we had never had the item in the first place.....DISGUSTING ALL ROUND.......
This hotel thinks it is something it is not....yes its wonderful inside, marble floors, sweeping stairs, lovely rooms, however I think they should try and remember that the hotel should be thankful that guests choose to stay there and not that the guests should be thankful that the hotel allowed them in!!
The chap who parked our Bentley was the nicest warmest man in the whole hotel and the rest of the staff should take note!

Stayed at the Chester Grosvenor for one night with my husband just before Christmas to get some quality, grown-up time and do the Christmas shopping. Excellent hotel that lived up to all our expectations. Price for tea to be sent to room for breakfast was £6, but found out later that we could have asked for a complimentary tea tray to be sent to our room when we arrived. Breakfast in the Hotel was excellent and not too expensive considering we were in a 5* hotel. Location was great for shopping as Hotel is right in the middle of Chester's main shopping area.

Great hotel. Superb location right in the centre of Chester.

Rooms are extremely well presented, flatscreen TV, DVD player, Bose sound system.

Beds are really comfortable.

Food is superb in the Brasserie and, although we didn't eat in the main restaurant, the menu looked very appealing.

Only disappointment was the Spa - the hotel charges an additional £35 per room for access but there's no pool or jacuzzi, only a small steam room and sauna worth using.
