“Amazing and relaxing”
Reviewed 24 July 2011

Had the most relaxing luxurious weekend at queen hotel, also enjoyed a fabulous spa treatment at the sanctuary by Jo who was an excellent beauty therapist would definately recommend her. The atmosphere was lovely as there was a few weddings going on and the food was out of this world. All staff friendly, smart and professional don't think I've been this impressed for a while!

Stayed for 1 night in Kings quarter, which is the newer part of the hotel and the room for £80 a night was excellent, top Quality.
Free bar from 5-7pm with good choice of drinks, although a little expensive if paying.

Excellent location right outside train station and city centre is within walking distance. Only downside was the Quality of breakfast, chef managed to burn the bacon, sausages and hash browns!

Would definitely stay here again if visiting Chester

No doubt this was once a very grand hotel unfortunately today's standards would make its namesake turn in her grave.

Beware the web and other promotional material for the standard rooms - the decor is circa 1979; the bathroom positively disgusting; and the room temps might offer the hotel a nice sideline in saunas which is just as well if you are unfortunate enough to explore the fitness suite which is another standard room with four machines thrown in.

The customer service is dreadful. The reception staff are lacking in the basics of human interaction never mind customer service. Having seen the latest Harry Potter movie while we were in Chester I was left wondering whether they were recent graduates of Slytherin House.

Confining this review to the highlights: on attempting a nightcap in the lounge we crunched underfoot on pieces of battered fish from the lunch serving; a member of the bar staff swore blind sparkling wine was not served at the hotel while trying to flog us champagne as my husband and I gawped at the cava parked next to it in the fridge; the hot water temperature of the bathroom sink in our room (106) is dangerous and needs to be addressed urgently by management.

I am ashamed to say I was left so disheartened and downtrodden by this establishment I did not raise any of these issues during my stay. My hunch is that the current hotel focus is firmly on the new wing (King) built in the adjoining gap site and rather than address these issues with customers or at least acknowledge them in its pricing structure, the management have instead chosen to ignore the really awful accommodation and standard of service in the original building.

On a positive note, there was a highly professional and lovely young lady who checked us in and out at reception and a most wonderful gentleman (concierge I think) who I witnessed going to great pains to retrieve a lost earring for a customer - a glimmer of the service the hotel would have provided in the past no doubt but now sadly lost.

I work for an organisation who used the hotel's function room for a mental health event and found the service from the staff and the quality of refreshments was outstanding. We felt all the needs of the event and people attending were catered to a very high standard and received lots of comments about how beautiful the venue was inside and out in the garden. I would love to use the Queens Hotel for future events and would definatly recommend staying there.

went to the queens hotel for a 2 night stay and I have to say it was very special...We stayed in the Kings suites at the back of the hotel and they were very plush. We had a few drinks in the bar and the service in there was also very friendly and efficient. If you are looking for a nice place to stay in chester I would definitely recommend this hotel. We didn't have dinner in the hotel however the breakfast was excellent and the staff in the restaurant made us feel special.

Quite expensive for what you get. We booked a Kings Suite in the new 6 storey block and were a little disappointed by the size of the "suite". It was at best an average room size with a nice en-suite and when we expressed our disappointment , credit to the staff, we were offered a Queens suite which was larger, with 4 poster, couch, table and chairs in the original part of the Hotel. however the bathroom was very "tired". Its basically 2 Hotels - an old and new joined together by a pleasant and spacious corridor.
The Hotel is large with a beautiful Italian courtyard, but its use limited at wekends due to wedding partes taking it over. The breakfasts could not be faulted- everything hot and plentiful with the staff ever helpful.
Its a pleasant ten minute walk to the town centre along the canal towpath on a sunny day. Nice restaurants -recommend Jules for a great meal.

Room Tip: The original part has the larger (Queen)suites with views of the Italian Garden.

Our company had two meeting over two days, an evening meal and dinner at the Queen Hotel during July of 2011.
The rooms (both meeting and overnight) were excellent, the service was pleasant and the food was of good value. There was a plentiful supply of tea, coffee, Bottle Green cordials, water, biscuits, cakes and sweets.
This is not the first venue we have used in Chester but it is far superior to the others in terms of quality and cost. The overall package price was very competitive I will not hesitate to use the hotel again.

Room Tip: The hotel is well situated for the train station but views are not fantastic, those on the new King...
