The last weekend we had in Chester was in 2012 at that time we stayed at the Premier Inn which was good. When we decided to stay in Chester over the May bank holiday we checked the premier inn price, however when we checked the price of this 4 star hotel the difference for DBB for two nights was next to nothing so the Queen hotel won the day.
The package was a spring stay 2 night special DBB priced at £336 (non bank holiday £259) which included a voucher each for a free drink in one of the hotel bars. Our room was on the second floor of the Kings suite, room 1205. The room was well appointed and spacious, it came with bathrobes and slippers. The bathroom was modern clean and practical. Our three course evening meal was taken in the kings Grill, the menu was varied and the food good, a good selection of wines on offer at reasonable prices, (expected to pay more in a 4 star hotel) Parking at the hotel is way over priced at £15 per 24 hours during weekends, however for £5.90p per 24 hours you can park the car in the station car park which is next door to the hotel.
We stayed over a bank holiday and there were a couple of wedding parties in at the time which did not cause any problems, however I believe due to this, breakfast service was very busy and noisy, the food was not hot but adequate, and real butchers sausage. Staff at every level were good, overall this hotel provides exceptional value for money, good staff, clean and good food. We will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the King's quarters. Lovely big rooms with very nicely appointed decent sized bathrooms with bath and separate large shower. However, here comes the niggle. Nowhere to hang the hand towel and the loo roll is positioned just out of easy reach. Very small points but a shame to spoil such an otherwise lovely bathroom.

That's all we could find fault with though so pretty good. The staff are brilliant with special kudos to Iwan, the concierge. If you want to know about anything ask Iwan and he will give you the best advice and info possible.

Excellent breakfast with a chef on hand to cook the eggs freshly rather than leaving a large tray stewing over hot water. Take a torch or magnifying glass though as the dining room lights are rather dim. Makes for a nice romantic breakfast atmosphere but you can't read the menu!

Public rooms are delightful and bar prices are reasonable. There are plenty of comfortable chairs, sofas and peaceful corners to sit and enjoy a quiet conversation over a drink.

Location and convenience: if travelling by train, you can't do better. The Queen is directly opposite the station and the centre of town is a gentle 10 minute stroll, mostly along the canal.

I have stayed in Best Western hotels before and quality is patchy but I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this one and, if going to Chester again, would stay here.

Room Tip: Upper floors of King's quarters are excellent.

My wife and I stayed here on a 'Travelzoo' deal, but the service and quality was certainly not 'budget' - Parking was £10 for the stay (we even left our car at the hotel after checking-out whilst sight-seeing around Chester, popping in to the hotel during the afternoon for an exit code at no extra charge).

Our room was modern clean and comfortable, with all the expected amenities. Highlight of the stay was the evening meal, which was of exceptional quality, matching the type of fayre we have had in top quality restaurants. Staff were polite, friendly and personable.

There is a cosy little bar with a street entrance where you can relax before going up to your room. The hotel is huge, with rooms and corridors linking what appeared to be several buildings into one. Breakfast was a self service buffet style, but of high quality.

Location is right outside the rail station, and 10 minutes walk (alone a scenic canal path) into the town centre. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Mt partner and I stayed at this Hotel for a weekend break beginning April. It was a randon spontaneous choice having never been to Chester before. First impression when we entered the Hotel was quality, the surroundings were beautiful and welcoming staff at Reception greeted us. Our room was beautiful overlooking the courtyards which were amazing. The bar area and Staff was lovely and friendly. We ate in the Restaurant for evening meal and the staff were genuinely friendly, polite and went out of their way to make sure your meal and stay in the restaurant was a great one. The meal was outstanding in every way cooked to perfection, luxury surroundings, first class service and you could not fault the meal in any way watsoever. Breakfast you were greeted with a welcoming bucks fizz before entering, and a muscian was playing while you went to choose your breakfast which was hot fresh and cooked beautiful, so relaxing and most of all made you want to return to such a fantastic Hotel where you are treated special which you do not find very often.

The Queen is a delightful mix of 19th century charm and 20th century 'functionality', in that the original Victorian building is now connected to what used to be an office block, but now provides extra rooms.

Arguably the best rooms are in the office block, but I prefer the rooms in the original Victorian building, a mixed bag in terms of layout and all the better for it in my opinion!

There is a bar, where reasonably priced snacks are available, and a spacious lounge where one can relax with a drink at the end of the day. I haven't tried the dining room as I generally catch-up with old friends in the town centre, having once lived in Chester for many years. It is very well located for this.

The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful in my experience, and the hotel has all of the facilities that I would expect.

My one disappointment with the Queen is that it is now very obviously - much too obviously for me - a 'Best Western' hotel in some respects, even down to the soap and other items in the bathroom, which now have the usual banal 'wacky' slogans on them. I think that some CEOs are a little too in love with blatant branding and that a little subtlety might be helpful.

Still, it will not put me off staying there next time I visit Chester.
