First time we have stayed here - booked a last minute double room for birthday weekend with my husband. Check in was very quick but the receptionist was not very welcoming or friendly - we were the only ones at the desk at the time and despite trying to draw her into conversation she didn't seem to be interested in chatting to us. Our room was very clean but unfortunately the toilet seat was hanging off its hinges and not usuable as it was. Luckily the receptionist advised us that the maintenance guy was in the hotel and that they would have this fixed, which they did. Not sure how this was missed when cleaned from the previous occupants of the room though. We were looking forward to drinks and bite to eat in the beautiful court yard after a busy afternoon sightseeing on Saturday afternoon but unfortunately we were told this was reserved for a private function and was not available for several hours. By the time it was available it was too late and too cold to sit outside. The overall ambience of the hotel and decor is lovely if a little tired looking and didn't quite live up to our expectations or some of the reviews we had read.

Booked the hotel as a treat for my wife's Birthday. What a good decision
We stayed in the Kings Rooms and enjoyed the experience so well, the room was Ivan the terrible but not terrible at all. Lovely bed and bathroom with excellent view and very quiet. The staff where pleasant and friendly and if I had a small concern was the 3pm booking in time which seemed excessively long as you need to be out by 11am.Anyway more positives than negatives, nice bar area and the Albert Room was nice to relax in and have a drink. Parking cost was £30 for two nights Friday and Saturday but was safe and well located for the rooms.Need to remember you require to have your room card validated to buy drinks on it but was ok. I am a best western member but did not get anything special even although I showed my card we were not allowed to book in early, card says we can. We did not eat at the queens for dinner as fine dining was not on our to do list, however breakfast was good and plenty of selection and good quality. All in all we would stay again and stay in the kings rooms.

Room Tip: Kings Rooms are excellent

We went here for the wedding of a friend - it was a beautiful setting - the hotel is beautiful - a lovely part of Chester - easy to locate - parking facilities good.
The court yard was a lovely gathering area - the weather was glorious.
The rooms are a very good size and very in keeping with the hotel ambience.
The wedding breakfast was lovely - all staff courteous and friendly.
A lovely hotel.

Stayed 20/06/14 on second floor in older (front) part of the building. Reception/arrival smooth and quick, parking here is £15.00 per 24 hours, car park is right next door to the hotel, you pay on check out and are given a code to get out. Room clean, only negatives would be extremely hot room had to have window open wide all night, only 1 bath towel each which is always annoying! Plenty of lifts for those needing them, We did not eat at the hotel but we did pay for breakfast which was included in our price, very good value, buffet style continental and cooked breakfast a good range only negative would be food could have been a little hotter. Room had everything you needed, tea/coffee, dressing gowns/slippers etc. It took approx 15 mins to walk into centre from the hotel. Its a shame more attention is not paid to some arears e:g the fountain area (had not been cleaned for some time) many statues etc in the grounds some fallen over/broken or hidden in the overgrown shrubbery (keep an eye put for the large metal ants on the wall, creepy). All in all a good stay I would stay again just some areas a bit tired and needing some attention. I would stongly recommend (for dinner) Hickory's (authentic American Barbecue Restaurant) on the bank of River Dee lovely food and nice setting.

I always feel that check in sets the scene and here I could not fault it. Even though we arrived around the same time as a number of other wedding guests there was no waiting to check in. The room was ready and everything explained. We had booked to stay in the Kings wing. The room was very quiet and we had two very good nights. The bed was very comfortable. I loved the decor. We were in the Louis XVI room. A good size bathroom.
The location is superb - right opposite the station and close the main attractions. You may have to pay for the hotel car park but I think the cost is comparable to other city centre hotels, but you do not have to pay for that. A very short walk away is the station car park which is about half the price. You can stop outside long enough to unload, check in and take your cases to your room, and then move your car.
The next time we go to Chester, we will definitely choose this hotel.

We recently stayed in Chester and were given an upgrade to the Kings Quarters section of the hotel. The room was very nice--quite large, and we were happy for the air conditioning as it was quite warm outside. The hotel is directly across from the train station and a five minute walk from the city center (Chester Cathedral and the old city walls). The staff was extremely helpful and responded quickly to every request.

Booking a Travelzoo deal of £98 DBB and two free drinks we didn't expect much but the evening meal in the King's Brasserie was excellent. Cooked in an open kitchen in front of you and served piping hot. The service was excellent. Not sure if this is the venue for all evening meals on the deal but highly recommended. Standard room was in a modern wing but well up to four star standards and the rest of the hotel looked grand with old fashioned high ceilings, memorobilia, chandeliers etc. Lovely lounge area and staircase. Breakfast served in main dining room which was a bit dark and dated in decor. Again, food was excellent. It is a ten minute easy walk to Chester's beautiful historic centre but directly opposite rail station so very handy if you arrive by train or even for a quick bite/drink between journeys. The garden has lots of farchitectural features and is a quiet haven.
Staff very polite and friendly.
Will probably be my hotel of choice when visiting Chester again.

Room Tip: Check the prices for room upgrades on check-in as might be cheap and always check Feathers Group web...
