have stayed at this hotel twice now, its lovely. If you want a weekend break in chester this is the place to stay. It's situated across the road from the train station, so ideal if you dont want to drive. 5 minute walk into Chester, which is also lovely.
We stayed in the kings suites, they were luxurious ( hope thats spelt correctly!).
We also tried the evening meals, they were mmm mmm!
The staff were so friendly and made a point of checking we were enjoying our stay
Wonderful relaxing weekend throughly enjoyed by all of us.
GO GO GO.

After a long hard slog of a week we all aim for that bit of quiet time away from it all when the opportunity arises and the Queens at first seems to offer that. Lovely old building although as others have said some rooms in the original building are a little tired. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Beware the Q for toast in the morning and check before booking if there is a function on as if you value your sleep you may be disappointed. On the saturday evening we stayed there was a wedding reception and a charity ball with music until 1-30 am. Left us very tired for our return journey home on Sunday.

Visited this hotel for a company organised event. Hotel was well aware that they were supplying a meal for the delegates at 12 noon, however on arrival at 11 am no rooms were available for us to use or change clothes after a three hour trip. They finally offered us a shower cubicle - but there were no towels so we could not have a wash or shower!! And two people trying to change in a cubicle is not the best start to the stay! The lunch was meant to be a buffet "luncheon" but all that were supplied were some rather bland sandwiches with some chips - although they were delicious! Our afternoon event was a visit to Chester races, this did not get off to the best of starts as the coach booked to transport us arrived late and we missed the first race! Upon our return to the hotel we were very pleased to find that our luggage had been taken to our room. The room itself was good, roomy and clean. Needing to shower before our evening meal was no problem, although there was no venting arrangement in the bathroom. Naturally the room got very warm and condensation was forming. Tried to open the window to find it had been sealed up due to the fact that the glass was crtacked and jeld together with brown sticky tape!! The evening meal was excellent but prior to going in to the restaurant we asked reception to provide clean towels to allow a morning shower. Sadly these failed to materialise. We definitely drew the short straw for breakfast, the main breakfast room was busy and full and we were diverted - with no choice - to a small side room where breakfast was laid out carvery style for about 30 people. Sadly the food was not up to much, had been cooked much earlier and left with no apparent warmth so was quite cool!!! Upon returning to our room to realx before check-out the chamber maid burst in to clean the room. The time was 9-45, checkout was 11 am!! She did apologise but we felt this was just a hint for us to leave! Overall we found this to be an elegant, comfortable hotel but it just didn't hit the mark for us due to the problems noted.

Beatifully appointed hotel. Lovely rooms and facilities. Very friendly and helpful staff. Outstanding breakfast.

The downside was the noise. We returned tired to our room at 11pm, hoping for a peaceful night's sleep. Despite silicon earplugs (the best on the market), the noise - from either a live band or a DJ below - was unacceptable. Indeed, ridiculous. It didn't stop until 1am. We were jaded the next morning.

Arrived earlier than the 3pm official check-in time, but we were still able to check-in and leave our suitcases. On returning later, we found we had a large bedroom on the first floor in the older part of the hotel, and our suitcases were there waiting for us.

The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The bathroom was also a good size. Our room was quite a walk from the main staircase, but this meant we heard no noise from any late-night revellers. As mentioned in previous reviews, this hotel hosts a lot of functions (three at least when we were there) so expect lots of people to be around late at night. The decor of the hotel is very ornate - nothing low-key or minimalist here, so it is a popular venue for weddings.

Breakfast was very good with lots of choice, although I ended up not bothering with toast - you have to make it yourself in an ordinary toaster away from the main food service area. I agree with a previous reviewer that a hotel like this should be serving toast along with the tea and coffee.

We enjoyed our stay here very much, and found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.

What a great hotel, it's interesting, the walled garden is fantastic, the bar and adjoining rooms are cosy and welcoming, the breakfast has everything you could possibley want and free news papers too, the staff are very friendly, and its in a handy location. its a short walk to town or - even easier - get on the free shuttle bus from outside the station opposite, it drops you off right in the middle of chester. We stayed in the old part of the hotel which was ok, but the bathroom was a bit dated, pay the extra £10 and get upgraded to the funky newer rooms!

I just have to recommend this wonderful hotel! I stayed at the Queen on a Hen Weekend a couple of years ago and loved it, so was delighted to return with my partner to the newer King's Quarters... we were absolutely blown away by the facilities of the Augustus Suite, flatscreen televisions, a four poster bed and beautiful furniture and surroundings... what more could you want?! My other half was so impressed he proposed, so the Queens has a special place in our hearts and we will definitely return. Also, the breakfast was lovely! It really was a memorable stay and we have told so many people about this place.

On a side note, the hotel bar was cosy and welcoming and the location is perfect - opposite the train station and a short walk / free shuttle bus / £4 taxi away from the centre. Thank you to the staff and see you soon!
