“Fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 15 September 2011

We stopped here on our way to the lake district on our honeymoon.

There service was great from the start, when we checked in, the reception team congratulated us on our marriage and promptly upgraded us to the presidential suite!

The room was fantastic, the service great. Ideal location for exploring chester as it is a short cab ride from the centre.

Room Tip: Go for a suite......although if you can, the presidential suite is epic!

Although service was very good, the food was bland and predictable, named 'SteakHouse' only one steak meal to choose from, would have been better off in the pub down the road. Breakfast the next day was cold

We had a lovely time at this hotel which we used as a base for a visit to Chester Zoo. It was very warm and welcoming. The family room was fantastically laid out for a family of 5 (5, 3 and 2 year olds) with lots of space. The pool was great and very popular with the kids. Highly impressed with the quality of the breakfast buffet too.

We stayed for two nights at the hotel - fabulous place, all very clean and decor well looked-after. We used the spa and swimming pool a couple of times - we were there wit our young children so didn't get many opportunities! The staff were good and they made our children feel welcome. Our room was very spacious with an archway through to an area with a sofabed for the children which was a nice touch. The only small problem we had was that there was noise coming through the wall into the area where our children were sleeping - on investigation, it turned out that the computer room was the other side of the wall. There were other people's children playing in the computer room and their voices came through very loudly. I did ask the staff if they could help with this - but they said they could only ask the children's parents as it was not their job to monitor the useage of the room......There were quite a few people drinking in the hotel bar and their children were left to run around......not great when you're trying to get your own children to sleep! Nevertheless, everything else was excellent and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: See point above re. our room/noise.

The most wonderful, relaxing day I've ever had! The spa is beautifully set out with some great unique features such as the outdoor thermal pool and the decor is gorgeous and modern. The treatments were utterly wonderful. The best massage I've ever had and the facial was completely sublime. I've already asked for vouchers for Christmas!

The hotel itself is very nice. The grounds are lovely and the location is great, just a short cab ride into Chester for bars and restaurants. The buffet breakfast is excellent. Lunch in the spa was good too. The only fault was all the bedrooms were really hot.

I'm definitely going back!

Felt like I should have been staying if I had been invited to one of the weddings that seemed to be held here. However, as I wasn't, you sort of feel overwhelmed by all the other guests and a bit like you don't belong. I guess this could have been the time of year that I was staying.

The checking in process seemed a bit rehearsed, fast and fake. As did the service in the restaurant at brekkie.

Saying that though, lovely clean and modern room. Great bed and amenities. Nice gardens surround the hotel and it's set well back from the road. I'ld go back again, but not when there are a couple of wedding parties also staying at the hotel.

We recently stayed in a junior suite and had an overall positive experience. Generally the hotel was pretty easy to get to and just out of Chester but very near the motorway, the hotel itself is very nice and obv had some money spent on it. Plenty of car parking too.

Check-in seemed a little rushed but our room was ready despite us being early and we got our cookies too :) The room was a good size and the bed was pretty big too, we had a travel cot for the baby and she had no complaints! The bathroom was pretty big too with a hug shower and separate bath.

We had 2 small problems with the room, the power sockets at the desk ddin't work and neither did the DVD player, we were promised this would be changed the next day but had to chase this up. Had we not had this problems I would have probably given a higher score, even though they were small issues I feel that that if you're paying this much for a hotel of this rating you shouldn't have these issues. Used the internet in the room too which was pretty quick and had no problems with that.

As it was our anniversary we were given a cake too and some drinks vouchers to enjoy a drink in the lounge which was nice.

I used the gym which was clean and tidy and had a lot of stations in there as well.

We used the lounge for drinks which was quite but we got good service and sat out in the gardens.

I have seen the other complaints about breakfast but personally found the service good, had no problems with queues and had enough choice. We decided to have breakfast in bed the next day and as we'd marked down we were veggies on the form they bought us some vegetarian sausages and hash browns with our hot food, which I thought was a very nice touch and made us feel appreciated.

Check-out was very quick and painless, would probably stay again if I was down these parts in the future...
