“Great hotel and Spa!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2012

My boyfriend and I spent the night here for our anniversary 15/7/12-16/7/12. We got the Sunday romance package which had the room, breakfast and spa treatments included. This was really good value for money compared to the Saturday pakage so I would definitely recommend going on a Sunday instead if it's convenient. The rooms were absolutely lovely. Bed was big and comfy. Only issue being no plug socket next to the bed to charge your phone. The bathroom was particularly well finished. Staff were nice ad helpful and giving you a warm cookie on arrival is a really nice touch. There is a hotel restaurant and Marco Pierre White's restaurant to choose from for food. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant which was lovely but the real gem was Marco's restaurant the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly. The service really was excellent. The spa is lovely. Part of it was closed when we went. This didn't really matter as the treatments and pool more than made up for this although it might have been nice to receive a small discount or treatment due to this.

It's worth noting it's very near to Chester Zoo.

Overall, really lovely hotel with delicious food, great service, lovely rooms and great spa. Highly recommended!

I booked two nights in a king size bedroom as a surprise for my boyfriend. It was absolutely brilliant and such a relaxing few days.

A short drive away from both cheshire oaks and the centre of chester, both of which we visited and were very nice

Unlimited use of the gym and pools and sauna was my favourite bit. The gym had the top of the range equipment though it was very busy, and the fact there was 4 different types of saunas and the different types of pools and jacuzzis was brilliant, we spent many hours just lying in them!

We used room service and we also got breakfast delivered to our room. We werent going to as it was expensive for a breakfast- but you definetly get your moneys worth! We struggled to finish it and it was very high quality.

We also went in both the marco pierre restauraunt and the hotels own restauraunt, I cant compliment them enough. Lovely food, lovely staff and lovely setting. The cookie with check in was a very good point too! I cant wait to go back again for a little treat

Great place to stay, would come again.
The health club was very clean and modern. Great way to wake up! Was very relaxing.
Had lunch in the brasserie as the main restaurant was closed. Was a bit pricey but nice enough food good portions

My family loved this hotel, it is so special, kids loved the cookies, food was superb! Staff are really friendly they always had, a smile, rooms were clean and spacious, can't wait to go back, did not use spa but did try the pool, the outdoor section was a real hit with the kids, did not try Marcos but it did look very plush, brasserie food was fantastic we ate there both nights

The plus points are:-
Impressive exterior and entrance.
Very comfortable king size bed plus good stand in bath shower
Maid service was perfection itself.
Staff were polite.

Minus points are;-
Spa Lounge Food poor quality and expensive.
Breakfast no table menu for poached eggs kippers etc just buffet which was adequate.
Bedroom corridors not one star standard, carpets joined by tape coming loose health and safety!

Conclusion:-
Parts of the hotel are tired and room breakfast rate £97.75 is expensive for the small standard room.

We have recently had a 2-night stay at the Doubletree Chester. Not really sure where to begin as we stayed here when it had just changed from Hoole Hall to a Doubletree and the standard was excellent. This visit didn't live up to our expectations in many ways- the front of house service at reception was fine and created a good impression, however moving beyond this the service began to fall short of expected standards. This place is now very tired, if not exhausted, and in need of a rolling refurbishment. Whilst the rooms are essentially clean, paintwork is very chipped and battered; the bed linen is old, shabby and marked. Many of our bathroom fittings were in need of attention- shower head kept collapsing/ toilet roll holder at a 45° angle- bath enamel chipped. The carpet in the corridor was stuck down with black tape, certainly not a standard expected from the Hilton group. We ate in the Brasserie one night and had to send 1 main course back- when returned with a new meal it wasn't any different- this was addressed by removing the charge from the bill but again not good for Hilton standards. The service was patchy, to say the least for breakfast, and staff didn't appear to have any plan of how to serve/clear tables and basically be attentive to their customers. At this point I would not consider staying again, unless their act is very much cleaned up and average standards are resumed. All of these issues were raised to the duty manager on our departure and he assured us the carpet issue is being resolved and new carpets are due to be laid in the very near future. The service issues he stated would be fed back to relevant mangers to deal with. One thing to note if you do stay here, is that you must have your card with evidence of your room number with you in the bar area as they will not let you charge drinks to your room without it. Although this was inconsistent and did try our patience a little – surly if customers don't have this evidence with them as you only get 1 per couple-there must be alternative ways of mapping a customer to a room- what about checking peoples surname/personal details?
Doubletree needs to get their act in gear to salvage the previous reputation of this hotel.

This is our second visit to a Double Tree and weren't disappointed. Located about five mins drive from the City centre it is situated on a main bus route, and there is a bus stop at the entrance to the hotel. Taxi costs £5. The building and grounds are traditional but contemporary and visually pleasing. There is also seating in the walled garden. Free parking. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean and the staff are all very pleasant. There was acoustic live music n the bar area in the evening on our visit. Would be pleased to return
