“Fantastic Hotel”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We returned here for our 1 year anniversary as this is where we got married. it was just as beautiful as we remembered. The room was immaculate and very modern/stylish. we went for afternoon Tea in the brasserie when we got there and were quite dissapointed. we have had afternoon tea there maybe half a dozen times but have not been let down like this before. We arrived at 2.30pm (the time it was booked for) to be hurried onto a table while they set the table out for the afternoon Tea as when it was booked they were incappable of writing down the booking. when we did eventually get to the table at 3pm we were in a rush to eat the food as we needed to make an appointment at 4. when the duty manager came over she was very apologetic and offered us a glass of champagne to apologise. apart from this the stay was fantastic as expected.

Enjoyed our second stay at the hotel recently. Don't know why we left it so long from the last one.
We were fortunate enough to upgrade to a suite, which was well worth the money, room was lovely and big.
We were here on a anniversary break, which the staff knew, and after dinner we got back to the room to find an anniversary cake left for us on the side which I thought was a nice touch.

The breakfast was very good as always, great selection, hot and cold.

Spa and pool facilities are great, the outdoor pool is nice and warm. We had a couple of treatments in the spa and they were brilliant, left feeling really relaxed.

top tip - if we work for government (NHS, school, military etc) make sure your select that on the rate when booking direct only £65 a night for bed and breakfast which is great saving.

Room Tip: any junior suite

Doubletree Hilton was the first Spa break I had and became the one of choice, the service was once attentive providing sparking wine on arrival with a sorbet after the treatments and a delicious buffet lunch.

This is no longer the case. on arrival my friend and I were given a locker to share! not sure why you would ever assume it is acceptable to share lockers, when requested we were however, given a second one. The facilities were ok but the personal touches seem to have disappeared. We were not offered sparkling wine on arrival and was only given it when requested and why do you no longer provide a sorbet after your treatments, this again was a lovely touch that is no longer provided.

The facilities are now looking shabby especially the Deamroom which was unkempt with used towels on beds which was quite offputting. The main disappointment of the day however, was the lunch, what has happened to The Terrace lunch menu. 'Pre packed Paninis' really!! I am sure the cold buffet may not of been to everyone's liking but having a panini and flapjack was like going back for school lunches or something you grab when you don't have time to relax and eat, but to sit in a Spa restaurant and be served that was utterly disgusting! I would also like at this point to add that when choosing my panini I actually had no choice as I am lactose intolerant and therefore could only have one. BBQ chicken and bacon as all the other choices contained cheese! The only saving grace of the day were the treatments I received, they were fabulous. I have a Spa on average once a month and have to say it will be a while before I return to the Hilton if at all as there is now fierce competition for Spa days in chester and currently you are lagging behind.

Stayed overnight and used spa facilities. Upon arrival it was clear that there was a large summer wedding taking place in the grounds.
We arrived early and were able to check in.
The rooms are clean, modern and ours had a huge super king size bed. The bathroom was superb with good lighting and a shower over the bath. The towels were superb ( a bug bear of mine in some hotels ) they were large and very fluffy.

We were given the usual cookie on arrival and the staff were very helpful. In the rooms there is a kettle, iron and ironing board, free safe and fridge.

We went to the bistro and had some drinks in the garden area in the sun which was very nice. Later we used the spa and the feelings were mixed although I enjoyed the experian although did not have any treatments.

Later we had a meal in the bistro. The food choice was ok and the helping huge. We all had the haddock and be warned one portion would easily do two people with good appetites which is a shame as a lot of it is wasted.

When we paid the bill later in the evening, we had a tab linked to the room and the drink count was right, but unbeknown to me I was given Grey Goose vodka on some rounds and Smirnoff on others. This was not made clear at the time and the coatings are considerably higher. We pointed this out to staff and they offered to reduce this but we did mention it as an observation as I don't feel it is a good practice.

The bedroom was quiet until someone fro. The wedding went past at 03.30 and woke us up as they were quite merry.

Breakfast was very good with the usual array of juice, cereals, yoghurts, breads and hot food. It was well cooked and no complaints there.

The hotel was in easy reach of Chester where we went the next day and used the park and ride. Free parking and £2 return fare per adult. Buses every 10 minutes but you do need change to get your ticket from the machines no notes accepted.

All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and a good time was had.

I can only say that are experience was positive and the staff were very helpful and a hardworking and a credit to the hotel.

Room Tip: Email ahead if you have preferences. We did not but got a quiet room on ground floor away from weddi...

New hotel with nice rooms and in a convenient location. Only criticism is that we were told that they were no longer serving when we turned up late and tried to get dinner at 2100. Good breakfast although the coffee machine needs to be re-sited.

When we booked this I requested an accessible room as close to reception as possible because my Husband is disabled. We arrived a little early, so left our bag to be taken up to room whilst we went round the cheshire Oaks outlet.
When we came back, a wedding party was very noisily milling around the grounds, blocking all the parking spaces (some prat parked between 2 blue badge spaces making them impossible to use). We just wanted to get to our room, so booked in + set off! We were MILES away from reception in an ordinary room. No access to a shower
We had wanted to eat at restaurant, but there was no way. The wedding party made it impossible to go anywhere without being harassed by drunked idiots (one even tried to follow us to our room) so we went back to cheshire Oaks and ate at Coal (fabulous food fast. service) glad we didn't pay full price. I am submitting a complaint to management as we would never have wasted money had we known about the wedding party

Excellent, weekend break. Hotel was busy but still didn't interfere with us or cause any interruption . Stopped in the presidential suite which highly recommend. Breakfast was good and again was able to accommodate large number of guests. During our visit we went to Cheshire Oaks which was shopping paradise some good bargains were had. Will be returning hopefully late in the year for Xmas shopping. Thank you Hilton for excellent service and break
