“Pleasant place to stay”
Reviewed 21 April 2012 via mobile

Had a lovely stay in Chester. Last minute decision to stay over for 1 night. Picked this hotel because of great location. All staff were very helpful and pleasant. Offering to take up our bag, helping with directions etc - great. Hotel corridors could do with a repaint. Room was well equipped, clean and decor good. The only downside was the size of the bathroom! Wow-wey it's tiny! both my partner and myself really are not very big at all and we had to walk in sidewards!

We only had breakfast in the restaurant which was first class. Full English cooked breakfast was made to your requirements and was cooked to perfection. Toast was brought to your table which was a nice change. (My partner hates having to put the bread in 1 end of the toaster for it not to be toasted, to be put in again and come out burnt!).

Overall I would recommend this hotel for a short stay. Any longer and the bathroom would become annoying

We stayed for two nights over a weekend, the hotel itself is nice & clean, the staff are exceedingly curteous and helpful. Our room was large & clean, the position, right in the centre of Chester was fantastic but there where a couple of downsides. The hotel's recommended car park belongs to a shopping centre and gaining access to it when the shopping centre is closed was tricky. The food in the restaurant was fairly good but not outstanding and the portion sizes were just adequate. The "bar" is really more of a small waiting area for the restaurant which was great for us as it was really quiet during out stay but I couldn't imagine spending a whole night in there. Not that that's a problem as Chester has any number of fantastic places to spend your evening. The positives outweigh the small negatives and we thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: 313 is high up away from the noise and was spacious

The hotel was nice, friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms etc, excellent position in Chester. On checking in we asked about the Steak and Grill restaurant and was told if we wanted a table for that night, it would be best to book as it gets very busy. Thinking it must be a popular place to eat, we looked forward to dinner. We were the only couple eating in the whole restaurant (until just before we left when a table of 4 came in ) which made us feel rather awkward (!) but that wasnt the problem. Our starters came which were ok, but then we ordered fish and the 'pie of the day' which was cottage pie. The fish was dry on top and sloppy underneath. We dont like to complain but reluctantly told the waitress who apologised and said it would be deducted from the bill. The cottage pie had 'clumps' of mince meat and was tasteless. We didnt like to mention it after the fish, but it wasnt eaten and the waitress didnt ask why, when she took the plates away.
Breakast next morning was nice and we checked out. It wasnt until we got back to the car park that we realised the dinner hadnt been knocked off the bill. I would go back to this hotel but only on a bed and breakfast basis.

Although the weather wasn't good the central location made the city very accessible and resulted in an enjoyable stay. All staff and particularly front of house staff were professional, courteous, helpful and friendly without being over the top. In general the food was very nice, my only negative comment would be that the wine seemed overpriced. Would we stay again? This was our second visit and certainly wont be our last. Mike R

My wife and i went to the steak and grill restaurant last night within the hotel, very average meal but the service was far better than the food! One major mistake was offered fish pie and served chicken pie! In fairness they agreed to knock it off the bill and it was quite enjoyable. Would I go back?? Not sure its our second time there and like the review says Average and i dont like paying £60-£80 for average.

Great Front of House Manager, Richard went to his apartment to lend me his personal blackberry phone charger - what a guy !!
Hotel is in a great location about 20 feet away from the main shopping street, easy overnight parking available for £10 at the Grosvenor Multi Story parking area. Room very pleasant with a sofa, chairs and table in the room. Only little niggles were the shower was only a trickle and took a while to get warm also it was quite noisey on the street outside until around midnight however my 18month baby slept soundly through everything which is the main thing for me.
However, all in all a great stay, great breakfast, very helpful staff, great room and excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Room 310 is a lovely spacious room right in the eves of the property. It is on the St John Street si...

We booked here last minute (literally walked in off the street!) and the staff were helpful and gave us a good deal which matched their Internet rate.

The king size room was fine - lovely comfy bed but bathroom was small and the water was either freezing or boiling. Windows in the room are secondary glazed and this helps keep noise out as it's in a good central location.

We booked their dinner offer and this is what spoilt it for me. They run a steak and grill restaurant so you would expect the steaks to be perfect. Mine was overcooked and tasteless. To be fair, the staff handled this really well. I didn't eat the meal so it was knocked off the bill and they gave us the wine complimentary.

They did the best they could to remedy the situation, but if I am in a 4 star hotel I would just like to enjoy the meal and expected better.

I think the hotel is a good place to stop and great location. I just wouldn't recommend the restaurant.
