“Good location but not as expected”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

After a good stay at Macdonalds Manchester we stayed in Chester just for one night so hard to judge it overall
You will need satnav to get there to unload outside and then a nearby NCP (£10.00 24 hours) 10 mins walk. Older but well refurbished city centre hotel so narrower corridors smaller rooms , lack of space etc service was good overall with the exception of a fire alarm (test or false) whilst in the shower & 2 floors down to be told it's not an alarm
Downside is the very late night noisy night club underneath the hotel with the middle of the night cacophony of people leaving coupled with early morning mechanical street sweepers
Very convenient for city centre and ideal for the late night party crowd but we will stay a bit further out (Macdonalds Portal?) next time

Room Tip: Get a room with a bigger bed as far from the night club as possible

This listed building, in the heart of Chester, has a number of huge plus points.
The public spaces are lovely.
The staff are exceptional. Every last one of them. Abigail on Reception deserves special mention. A charming and delightful lady who couldnot do more for us had she tried.
Being a listed building, the plumbing could do with a little updating. If you have a choice, stay on the first floor as the showers on the second floor were a little extreme in temperatures!
The only other drawback is the rooms facing the front of the hotel overlook the main street which tends to get a little noisy over the weekends when the clubs kick out.
As the building is listed, air con and sound proofing are presumably not an option, so take your ear plugs and just enjoy the fact that you are staying in a little slice of history whilst being cherished by some extraordinarily caring staff

I would say the staff definitely made our stay. All were very friendly and welcoming. Its location is perfect. We enjoyed The Blossoms Hotel's breakfast which had a great choice of cereals, breads, pastries, fruits etc. plus a cooked breakfast if you could manage that too.

I would like to state that this hotel was well over my expectations. Very centrally located excellent value, clean and classic with a modern style. The staff were all very friendly and made our stay a happy one.
The rooms are well sized and have all the facilities requires to make a short or long stay welcome. If you think that there is another hotel of high reputation around the corner then you are looking at a much better value here.

I will be staying here again on our next stay over in Chester which i hope is soon, a great city.

Thanks to the Blossom

Getting it out the way.
The car park is a walk away. Arrive after the shopping centre closes you have to walk from a deserted car park down the vehicile entrance and ten minutes in a big circle. I suppose other car parks are available.

The hotel is very nice and welcoming, average rooms, a very small lift, hopefully your not clostrafobic.
The real let down fall in two parts, it was warm when I stayed and the rooms were red hot, I hoped the window all I could hear all night was drunken shouting. #noaircon.
The breakfast let down what was great service by he staff. A fantastic selection on the Buffett, really friendly efficient etc. they brought out the cooked breakfast.
Just very poor all around as though it's thrown on a plate from under the heat lamps.
What a let down.

This was a trip for a special anniversary. I'd tipped them off beforehand and my wife and I were greeted with "Happy Anniversary". I thought that was great touch and showed a) Forethought and b) Good planning/record keeping. I was very impressed. My wife was equally impressed that they had pre-delivered wine and chocolates to the room. (I was relieved they were in place, again, good planning by the hotel (thanks Abigail). The suite was quite spacious: Bedroom, Sitting room with 2 easy chairs and a settee, plus bathroom. 2 televisions. I had worried from other reviews that I might have wasted my money. I hadn't: it was clean, elegant and comfortable. Iced water available on request, coffee/tea-making equipment and fresh milk on demand.
The staff were amazing. Always cheerful and welcoming and checking that things were ok. (They were!)
We started our stay with Afternoon Tea but the size of the traditional fayre meant we settled for just the scones, jam and cream Utterly wonderful. Freshly made and sumptuous.
Breakfast was again enormous: great choice of cereals, bread cakes etc plus Full English. (Could only manage a Quarter English!)
Some have complained about the parking. We had no problem dropping off our cases at the door of the hotel and then parking at the shopping centre in the middle of the afternoon. I had been prepared to have to find alternative parking at such a busy shopping time. 5 min walk from the car park either down steps from the walls or through the shopping centre - could be daunting if you don't know your way.
The hotel is in a fantastic location in the centre of the city, just yards from the walls and the famous clock. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. BUT if you want modern and a car park that's right outside the front door try an out of town hotel. If you are happy with an older building along with its quirks and charm in the heart of Chester this is a great venue.

Room Tip: If you are driving, and unfamiliar with Chester you almost certainly need a Satnav to navigate the o...

The good points:
Hotel was very central and reasonably priced. Room and bathroom clean, staff helpful.
The bad points;
Our room was very small for a double, poky in fact, much smaller than in a travelodge or premier inn. Also it was unbelievably hot, no air-con and the windows only opened an inch. Bathroom was clean but had some worn spots
That said, we were only there one night , and not in the room for much time, if we were staying longer we would have asked if we could have changed. It was really only big enough for a single person
