“Worst hotel ever!!!! Do not stay here!!!!”
Reviewed 25 July 2008

this has to be the worst hotel I HAVE EVER STAYED IN, we stayed for one night thankgoodnes i couldnt HAVE SPENT ANY MORE TIME IN THIS HOTEL!!!!

we phoned and booked the hotel, NOT SEEING WHAT IT LOOKED LIKED. we arrived at reception, i had a feeling we had made the wrong descision! THE RECEPTIONIST HAD THE WORST TEETH I HAD EVER SEEN, HAIRSTYLE WAS SOMETHING FROM THE 80'S

WE PAID £72!! she gave us the key fro room 6, as i was going up the stairs i was dreading what the room was going TO BE LIKE, well it was disgusting , the bathroom door was boards and disgusting and in need of a good clean, i new straight away i wasnt going to be using it,, the bed matt was disgusting, straight away we headed out for dinner. came back but couldnt get the door to lock ,,my husband went to reception, she came up and said we were supposed to be in room 9!!! how come room 6 and 9 seem to have the same key!!. very safe!!!
room 9 was just as bad, the bathroom was disgusting and i new i wouldnt be using it, it had talcum powder all over the floor, dont think a hoover had ever been used! there was a sanitary towel in the bin, the toilet wouldnt flush right, there seemed to have a blokage somewhre.

the bedroom was terrible, thewindow wouldnt close, the bedmatt was terrible, i had to clean the room with baby wipes, again i dont think it had been cleaned in a long time!! floor was disgusting and i would only walk on it if i had shoes on. the furniture was something from the 80's, the light fitting had 3 different types of bulbs, i felt dirty and itchy all the time i was in the room.

well breakfast was disgusting, swimming in grease, my best part of staying in this hotel was leaving, will never go back, and only stay there if you are brave enough!!! i have taken some photos for anyone who wants to see how disgusting this hotel really is

We were a party of about 25, in various rooms, and all I can say is that it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. ( And I have stayed in plenty) The room I had (room2) was so small for starters you could hardly move around the bed, And of what carpet was on show, it hadnt seen a hoover in months/years. God knows how bad under the bed was, I couldn't bear to look.
The walls were all covered in marks and dirt. The bathroom was as small as a cupboard, the shower seemed to be an antique, and god knows the last time it was cleaned.

The breakfast was equally as awful, swimming in grease, the toast burnt and the tea and coffee cold.

The bar was very expensive, I think a friend was charged £4 for two small glasses of coke.

I would never ever stay in this awful place again. I wish i had taken photos to show you how bad it was. When i came home i couldnt wait to have a nice clean shower, I felt dirty and itchy!!!! A few of the girls also had diarrhoea and vomitting for a few days, your guess is as good as mine, where from!!!!

thought this place was dodgy when we arrived and the receptionist asked us to leave our car keys behind incase they needed to move it(all other guests keys in a pile on the desk in full view for anyone to walk in to the unatended desk (most of the time) and take there pick of what car they want)..we got to our room and thought it was ok untill we opend the bathroom door and thought it was the entrance to the sewer, what a smell!shower looked like it had'nt bn cleaned in a long time.we did complain about this and on our return from going for a meal we were told that they had run the taps downstairs to try and clear the smell and had put bleach down the drain.dont think bleach would get rid of that smell.we sat down on the bed and then realised we could hear what the guests above us were saying and thought that they were going to come through the ceiling with the creeky boards so with all that and the smell we decided at 9.30pm that there was no way we were going to stay ,so we went to get a refund and leave...after another half hr or so we managed to get out of the car park after the staff had moved a load of other guests cars ..thank god !!

my girlfriend and i stayed at hotel roma recently and from the moment we entered the foyer we knew we had made a mistake. As a young couple wanting a night out we were told that we would need to be back in the room by 2am at the latest as the doors would be locked. We were then directed to the car park, or should i say alley way at the back of the hotel with cars just left to block each other in. The reception staff told us to leave our keys with them and if there was a problem they would move the car for us however we did wonder what would happen if there was an emergency. From the moment we opened the door to the room we were hit by the heat and the smell. There was no window in the room which added to the general stuffiness. It was like being in a time warp, the bedding and furnishings wouldn't have looked out of place in the 19th century and looked in need of a good clean. The lady on reception told us that we could smoke in our rooms however we thought this was a bit odd given the fact that we have a nationwide smoking ban. There was cigarette burns on the bed covers and the floor boards were so creaky we were scared to move about. We could also hear every move of the people in the rooms above because of this. The bathroom was very compact and had a mouldy smell to it. Also the water didnt go down the drain very fast which made us wonder what was actually down there. The next morning we couldnt wait to get out of there, we were just so glad that we were only staying for one night. We would actually say the best part of our time there was checking out. All in all i think my girlfriend and i would have had a better stay at Fawlty Towers.

I stayed at The Hotel Roma and enjoyed it thoroughly. The owner was especially lovely and the rest of the staff helpful and friendly. I had my evening meal in the fabulous restaurant which was very clean where the food was beautifully cooked and presented. The room was clean and had everything i needed for my stay in this lovely city. It had free parking - BONUS and i would recommend anyone going to visit chester to stay at Hotel Roma.

May 2007

My husband and I visit Chester regularly and usually stay in the city for one night, however on this occasion both of our usual hotels were full, and so we searched the internet and called The Hotel Roma directly to enquire about accommodation for the night of My the 18th and were told rather abruptly that rooms were available and that the rate was 72.00 UK Pounds which we guaranteed with a credit card.
Upon arrival there was nobody at the reception desk and we had to go through to the restaurant to locate a person and then we were shown were to park and directed towards an upper room at the back of the property in a separate block.
The room was very dated and had a generally unkept and dirty feel to it.
The carpet was stained and the bed sheet looked far from white, the sideboard was sticky and whilst there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room you would not have wished to use them. The window was open and would not close properly due to the fact that the foliage had begun creeping through the gap.
The floor in the bathroom did not look ike it had been properly cleaned in ages and the water did not fully run from the shower and there was old used soap left at the side of the bath and the supplies of shampoo inadequate for two guests.
Granted this hotel is superbly located and has secure free parking which is also a plus, however it provides very poor value for money in what is a beautiful City.
Upon check out the bill was presented to us and we paid but there were no pleasantries, the receptionist did not enquire how our stay had been or even say thank you or wish us a good onward journey.
