“Very special zoo--a rare chance to see orangutans at their level”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

A visit to the zoo is sufficient reason to go to this city. The zoo is vast with several standout exhibits. The real stand-outs for me--the orangs and the elephants. As to the later, this is a rare chance to see orangs in an elevated landscape. While the inside is concrete, metal and ropes the critical element is that it's an arboreal habitat--one of the few anywhere in the world for this arboreal ape. The outside is even better, again, all arboreal so you really get to see orangs move naturally. The elephant enclosure is also amazing, seemingly open and giving them space to really move around. This is a world class zoo, on par with the best anywhere and should not be missed if you are anywhere close to chester.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We had been looking forward to our trip to Chester Zoo and we weren't disappointed. We spent over 7 hours in the grounds without being bored at any stage. All the animals are well looked after and the staff were very friendly.

“Lovely zoo”

Brilliant zoo. A lovely day out. Animals and grounds exceptionally well kept. June's pavillion is a lovely place to grab a bite to eat. The monorail is worth a go.

“Must See”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

As a student studying Animal Behaviour and Welfare at the university of Chester I wanted to write a review from an educational prospective. I use Chester Zoo frequently as a means of collecting useful animal research data and behavioural observations. The design of the enclosures allows visitors to clearly see all species whilst making the enclosures interactive for children. The facts that are provided around enclosures are interesting and encourages visitors to understand more about the species they are viewing. The range of species housed at Chester is enormous and the use of space is exceptional. The grounds are clean and tidy as well as keeping all pathways and barriers maintained. The shops and restaurants on site are pricey but the quality is superb. For visitors wishing to take a picnic there is ample space to sit and enjoy the animals whilst you eat. Good transport links allow the zoo to be easily accessible from many of the surrounding areas and by allowing regular visitors to get memberships it makes for a cheap day out for many. A must see attraction for any solo, couple or family.

“The best wedding venue!!!!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

We had our wedding here June 2013 and it was the best day ever!!!! We had it in the oakfield manor house inside chester zoo located next to the lion enclosure. Our cars were lead in by a member of staff and everyone visiting the zoo stopped to wave and take photos etc.

Its a beautiful venue with lovely grounds for photos. All our guests got to go in the zoo after ceremony and photos were complete which they absolutely loved esp the children. Our photographer got photos of the animals and has placed them in our album as part of the background to our story book album. The videographer got myself and my husband in front of the lion enclosure watching the lion walk past us (the lion actually growled when we kissed haha). The food was delicious we had afternoon tea after the photos and big bacon butties with wedges and amazing fruit platters in the evening. It was a wonderful chilled out wedding day everyone said so. The staff were so professional and really looked after us and our guests esp elderly ones bringing them drinks and food making sure they were comfortable. They lit the fires so people could dry and warm up as it had rained a bit but the rain didnt detract from the day at all. Highly recommend the dj that the zoo use regular as he was fun and played great music everyone got up to dance and had a great time.

The whole venue is romantic. We couldn't of asked for a better day. Loved it!!

We returned 2014 to show the zoo our wedding album and give them a copy of our photos so they could put them in there album to show other people looking for a venue :) they remembered our day as they enjoyed it too. We paid to go into the zoo although the staff said they would of let us in as a thank you for bringing our album in etc which was very sweet but not wanting to take advantage we had already puchased tickets. It was so worth it. We loved seeing the animals esp the meerkats (my favourite animal). The batcave was fun lol. Love this zoo. Great memories here.

All in all a wonderful wedding venue and a fab zoo!!
