Owner description: Chester Cathedral is a living community of prayer and worship, and a centre of excellence in Church Music with a rich and fascinating heritage.

There was a queue at the reception although there is no entry charge there is an expectation that a donation will be given, so you cannot walk straight in - unless you go around the back. I think they should either make a charge or make it clear what amount is required. Prayers were held in the afternoon which is what we went for.

It's free but donations are welcome , the stained glass windows were awesome. There was an exhibition of miniatures and dolls houses while we were there.

We visited Chester on Thursday 7th Of August just on a day trip and whilsst we were there we were walking past the Cathedral out side was a very large sign saying 'FREE' entrance to the cathedral so as we did'nt have a lot off time we decided to have a quick look round but as we entered there was a girl giving out tickets to people and saying it is free to look around but we do ask for donations of £3 and people were shocked when they were asked for money. I think this is a bit sneaky of the Church and maybe against the law to do it this way. Even though this might be a nice attaction we decided not to visit on principle.

beautiful city and cathedral, slightly odd that you can buy a beer there!? well worth a trip. I think they do private tours up the tower which I would like to do at some point
