“Great family meal - Thanks chaps”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

I recently had a lovely meal here with my wife & 7 year old daughter. The worst thing was trying to decide what to have! Good selection on the new menu.

The food was lovely. There is clearly some talent in that kitchen. Very enjoyable meal. We will be back (as I have been many times before!).

“The Millstone -”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Frequently enjoy a meal at the Millstone, always greeted with a smile and well kept pint, so that is the first hurdle the team have ticked the box for. Value for money and good food are the next boxes which get the very good tick. Steaks as the should be, served as I like along with nice chips.
Gammon as it should be and not salty. Why not try the fish and chips be warned it is a large fish.
Have always found the service to be excellent with food arriving as ordered with no undue delays.Perhaps as we are 6:30 diners, but even visiting on busy sunny days in the afternoon have always found the service to be exceptional.

“Sadly Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013

After reading a lot of positive reviews about The Millstone and seeing that is was #5 restaurant in Chester, we booked with some excitement to eat a Sunday dinner here. Unfortunately, there are so many more places in the area that serve better food and get things right first time. Firstly, an earlier review was spot on when said ran by children, as pleasant and nice as they were in all fairness, they were very young. We arrived for dinner and was immediately shown to our table and gave our drinks order. Waitress very lovely and friendly. We ordered our starters which were lovely (the pate and the goats cheese). We ordered 2 roast beef dinners which arrived in good time. Unfortunately, this was where it started to go downhill. The beef wasn't the nicest I ever had, little bland and needed the gravy(which to be fair was nice). The Yorkshire pudding had flour still visible inside which is quite off putting and just didn't taste quite right. The potatoes were ok. Unfortunately, we weren't given any vegetables. The waitress just brought our dinner and said she hoped we enjoy the meal. Normally we would have said about anything missing but we both didn't really think about it at first. When we did, we couldn't find anyone to mention this to and didn't want the rest of the food to go cold so we didn't bother. We did hear the only other couple eating at the same time of us have to ask for their veg, if they hadn't have asked, I doubt they would have received theirs too. Anyway, after finishing the meal, the waiter came over to collect our plates and we mentioned the lack of veg. The waiter was deeply apologetic and offered us a dessert on the house. The Chocolate fudge cake again was ok, however, the bakewell tart came out burnt.

The only other thing I would say was that the kept moving tables around which was slightly off putting and again, considering this as a top ten restaurant wouldn't have expected this while people are eating.

Overall, the staff were very friendly and wanted to help and do a good job, I couldn't really fault them what so ever. The location and the atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice. Just a shame about the food and the little mistakes.

“Good food poor in other areas”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

Good food let down in other areas. Table booked for 6pm on a Wednesday in October and upon arriving we enquired about the 2 for £10 menu only to be told that the offer finished at 5.30. The website however still clearly states that the 2 for £10 menu is ' Served all day Monday – Thursday & until 6pm Friday & Saturday'. In addition we were charged for 2 drinks which had not been ordered by anyone in our party.
