we got a deal with co op travel. Tickets for Chester zoo and an overnight stay, seven of us, three adults and four kids. two age seven, an eleven year old and a thirteen year old. Good ay at the zoo except for the rain. The hotel was good. Very friendly staff. The pool and gym were very good. The grounds look beautiful, it was a shame the weather wasn't at it's best for sitting out.

We stayed here with friends last weekend and have to say that the experience was poor. We have stayed on other Holiday Inn hotels and found them to be friendly, reasonably priced and in fairly good condition. This one is shabby and in desperate need of some tlc. The drinks prices were hugely inflated at £20 for 4 drinks and the heat of the water when having a shower was best described as tepid. All in all very disappointing. Wouldnt recommend.

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to post your review of our hotel. It is disappointing to hear that our hotel fell below your expectations. We are hospitality professionals who work diligently to ensure our facilities are well maintained and strive to provide rates that are competitive in the area. Let me take this opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience the unusual condition of the shower caused you. Though I would prefer you had a better experience at our hotel, we thank you for your feedback and I assure you that the valuable comments you've shared will be used to monitor and improve the quality and services we offer.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and I hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

The hotel itself is cheap and cheerful but sadly let down by extortionate bar prices. In addition a 10% service charge is added to the bar bill, we were told on challenge that this was discretionary but most people will not notice. This is not a consistent Holiday Inn policy as we have stayed at others recently but maybe the Holiday Inn chain think tourists will pay a premium in Chester. Sadly we wont be returning. Four small glasses of wine was over twenty pounds this is very poor value for money. If you do stay here use it as a base and eat and drink in town.

Dear Karen R

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit to at Holiday Inn Chester South. I’m delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we have noted your comments regarding bar prices. Our pricing is comparable to other hotels in the area, and in most cases cheaper than many of our competitors. Whilst there are some wines that come at a premium, a glass of our most expensive wine by the glass is £7.80 for 250ml, we also offer bottles of wine at under £17.

On arriving at 2.30 we were told there would be a ten minute wait for the room (check in is from 2pm onwards). We arrived at our room, presuming that housekeeping were still doing their rounds, as trays of plates, and bags from litter bins were still outside several of the room doors; they were still there when i went to bed that night. The room was a resonable size. The air con didn't work, meaning that we had to sleep with the windows open, allowing for room noise, and light, as the room had slide shut shutters rather than curtains. I was woken at 7.30 am to find rain water dripping into the bath through the ceiling air vent. On checking out the staff seemed indifferent to my complaint regarding this.

We were only staying at the hotel as we were attending a wedding there. At the evening reception I had to put in a special request for hot food, as the buffet was lasagne, with the vegetarian option being chips. I was brought a bowl of vegetable 'lasagne'. They were aware that a vegetarian was attending.

when we checked in, we were given no details of the pool or other amenities.

Just had a 4 night stay at the hotel and we really enjoyed our stay there. Staff very smart, polite and helpful. Food good and plenty of choice(we had the inclusive buffet meals that was included with our holiday package). Rooms clean and the grounds of the hotel were kept very tidy.

This Holiday Inn is situated on the side of a dual-carriageway, so not the most picturesque of locations but it is convenient for the A55. The buildings is a shining example of drab 1970's architecture. I wasn't expecting much! But, once inside the ambience is fine. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have everything you need. We ate in the bar. The food was excellent but very expensive and of small portions given the price. The bar prices are high too. Service however, was amongst the best I have experienced. The waiter running the bar was superb. He took a real pride in his job and took two meals back to the kitchen because he wasn't happy, before he had even brought it to the table.

I booked a twin room, when visiting relatives with my sister, and rather unusually these days, that's what we got - 2 single beds! The room was clean but basic and the bathroom was rather below average (the sink took ages to empty and when I lifted the plug it was obvious that I was probably the first person to do this for many years - it was completely gunked up!) - the same with the shower over the bath!.
The drinks in the bar were expensive and I was served a medium glass of wine and charged for a large glass! Over £11 for a glass of wine and a pint of Stella!!
Overall, the hotel is dated and tired and built in a square - so you have to walk miles to your room!
