“Nice hotel - but room was too hot!”
Reviewed 13 December 2010

We booked into an executive suite for one night which consisted of a double bed and two single camp/sofa beds. The hotel was very nicely presented, spacious and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a selection of hot and cold buffet food, which was all lovely.
Only complaint we had was the temperature in our room, the radiator wouldn't turn off and the heating in the room had a sign next to it saying it was adjusted according to season. The heat was unbareable all night.
Also it was quite a distance from the town centre and not within walking distance of anywhere.
We would go back here again, provided the room had a working cooling system!

I travelled for a two night break with my husband, brother and his partner. Dinner was included on the first night which was quite good value. You were given a £20.00 allowance from the menu, but as the prices were quite inflated, it was only possible to have 2 courses. However, the waiter very generously gave us complementary coffees.

The rooms we were allocated were a bit run down, in our room we had toilettries in the bathroom, but in my brothers room next door, there were no toilettries and the duvet on one of the beds was no thicker than a sheet - this was replaced after complaining to reception.

The worst part of the stay was the queing for breakfast - this was down to the lack of staff in the dining room. We had to queue approx 15 minutes for breakfast on Sunday morning which was bad enough, but when we actually got into the dining room, there were lots of tables free that had not been cleared. Two of the staff in the dining room looked like they had no life in them at all and were probably on a hangover, and this was impacting on the other staff making them do more than they should. Breakfast was very good though once we eventually got a table.

The staff in general were very good and it seemed had to be multi taskers, as the girl who checked us in was also working in the dining room.

Stayed with work, rooms outdated sofa had seen better days. The navy were staying that night kept quite a few awake. The most rudest man in the breakfast room had to keep changing his glasses before he would speak to you. Never again.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn, Chester South for two nights. We booked in advance an executive double room which was excellent, clean tidy and very modern. The room had everything you could want fridge, tv, iron, hairdryer, and tea and coffee making facilities etc. The bed was the best I have had at any hotelat home or abroad and also included a pillow choice! soft to hard. The bar area was also very modern, I did find the bar prices a little high but signed upto the priority card which gives 10% discount. The breakfast was well worth it served buffet style, a good english breakfast served in a modern restaurant. The pool area was also very good with a 20 metre pool it also had sauna and hot tub etc. The hotel is in a good location it is just over the road from the park and ride, £3.20 return for two people was excellent value. A taxi into town was only £5.00 on an evening. One thing I would say our friends were going to book this hotel last minute but the price was over double what we paid we paid £46.00 for a great room with breakfast the price was £119.00 for same room so book and pay in advance. A very good break at a great price would highly reccomend, already looking to book at the Holiday inn at haydock park for the races.

Booked 2 nights for a Chester Mystery Break - ended up here at the Holiday Inn - What a good choice!
Paid £75 for B&B for 2 nights for 2 people - less than the cost of breakfast in most hotels!
After a late evening check in we were shown to a good sized ensuite room on the 1st floor, fully equipped with trouser press, coffee making facilities, shower & bath, toiletries etc; where we also found a leaflet containing a voucher giving us 20% off all food & drink in the restaurant & bars during our stay - so this in mind - we ate in the bar Friday night.
Bar food was excellent (choice as good as the restaurant menu, and slightly cheaper), and, with the 20% off, comparable to pub prices.
During Friday's night in the bar I used the Hotel's public toilets - and these were spotless - a credit to the Holiday Inn - and something which I have found other hotels regularly forget, but on which visitors use to judge the hotel.
As this weekend was also for our anniversary we would have liked a double rather than a twin room!, I emailed the hotel in advance, and although no doubles were available, they "zipped" a twin, which was actually bigger & better!!
So after a very comfortable night, followed by a hot & hearty help-yourself breakfast in a clean dining room with well organised staff, we then made our way into Chester.
The Hotel is a couple of miles from Chester - a couple of quid return to the City Centre on the number 1 Wrexham bus, or the Park & Ride bus (either stop across the road) -easier, quicker & cheaper than city centre parking.
On Saturday we again took advantage of the 20% bar discounts, but on Saturday night we chose to eat in one of the many Chester restaurants - but a word of advice - either eat early - or pre-book.
Another word of caution - avoid Weatherspons Bar opposite Boots - we popped in there - and despite it being only early the tables were filthy with leftover food, & uncleared glasses & plates, Both gents & ladies toilets were a disgrace & unusable, and staff who were supposedly "swilling out" the toilets, appeared to return immediately to bar duties - hmmm, nice!!
On the other hand ALL the Holiday Inn staff - reception, bar & cleaning - were VERY pleasant, and offered good advice on buses etc. On arrival, we reported that a window in our room would not lock and the lock was replaced (not simply repaired) at the first opportunity.
I would recommend this hotel, and for the price paid, we were more than satisfied with the Holiday Inn Chester. It is quiet, just far enough away from the city centre, on a frequent bus route, but with all the in-house facilites if you can't be bothered to stray far.

My partner and I was looking forward for a relaxing break away from the kids for a night. She had won from work and had a choice of hotels. and from the pictures it looked like a decent hotel. Oh dear how wrong we were. We checked in to a standard room and as soon has we entered the room it was a disaster. There was a lamp on the wall which was literally hanging off the wall. The bedding was filthy. And we looked in the bathroom to find black mold every where. The bath still had dirt in it. Absolutely shocking. So we went to the reception to complain. The lady said sorry and said she would find another room. Which she said was her favorite room in the hotel. Which was a room equipped for a disabled person which I haven't got a problem with. But the smell was terrible. And the woman who was the reception manager who had a foreign accent got quite rude when we said no to the room. After 1 hour they eventually upgraded us to a executive room. And a free bottle of wine. Fantastic we thought. At first glance it looked ok until we got in. I have added some pictures for you all to see. The fridge was leaking water. Pictures were curled up on the wall. And white stains on the couch. I say no more. A guy came up with the wine with no glasses. Then when he came up with the glasses they were filthy (see pics) . By this time we were to tired to complain. To be fair the guy In the gym was nice and the bed was comfy. Later we went down to the restaurant which was nicely decorated. I ordered the steak which I upgraded to the 10 oz.. Medium rare. Which was burnt and 6oz. And over cooked. My partners lamb was nice however. I asked if I could change to the lamb. And the waitress was lovely and worked hard. I am not the type to complain and have never written on any sites. But this hotel is RUBBISH.
