My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for 1 night at a reduced price of £89 - That included Bed, Breakfast, 3 course Dinner and a bottle of house wine. This was a fantastic deal, breakfast was buffet style with lots of choice, dinner was very nice and plenty of it and the bottle of wine was a very nice touch. The young waiter was extremely polite and worked very hard trying to strike up a conversation with guests as well as giving them top service. We made use of the swimming pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi which was all ok. The staff on the front desk and fitness suite were all very friendly and efficient. My only reason for saying that this was not really a 4 star hotel was the room, it was ok, but very basic, no drawers to put clothes away, the bathroom was a bit dull looking (I dont think the grey tiles helped) and the ceiling tiles needed updating. The bed was quite uncomfortable, you could feel all the springs digging in to you (and Im not a heavy person). I did mention this when we checked out so hopefully they will change the mattress. Hopefully people wont read this as negative, because I would definitely recommend them and we enjoyed our stay, I just think 4 stars conjures up something a little more updated, sorry.

Room Tip: Maybe ask if they have any upgraded rooms available

Dear Trip Advisor

Thank you for your recent review of the Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel on Tripadvisor.com

I was pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay but disappointed to that you were not entirely satisfied. Since the recent acquisition of the hotel we have entered into discussions with the owners of the business and we hope to be able to start work on updating many of our bedrooms shortly. In addition to this we are also sourcing a new bed standard to offer a better sleep, which we want to roll out in the very near future.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to having the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.
Yours Sincerely

James Lake

This hotel came through on a deal through KGB described as an idyllic spa escape. The decor is really dated to say it is described as a 4 star. We used the spa facilties and found they had childrens/babies swimming lessons on. The changing room was full to the brim with babies! There was absolutely no room and because there are only 2 showers it was chaos!
The staff were friendly in the restaurant but it was very basic. Food was better in the evening but slightly on the expensive side.
Our bed was really uncomfortable and the room was stuffy. We had to request a fan for our second night.

Some serious money needs spending on this hotel to bring it up to a four star standard.

our 2 night stay was great. we stayed in a reduced mobility room as my husband is in a wheelchair and the staff were both helpful and respectful. The spa was good for me to relax, but would have been difficult for my husband to access. Dining room breakfast was plentiful and the evening meals were excellent. There were functions being held on both nights but we were not disturbed by them at all. Would definitely reccommend.

we stayed as a party for the races, check in was quick and efficient, rooms and good size and has everything u need. was a bit concern as how noisey it was going to be, as full for the races, it was not a problem, great nights sleep, breakfast is extra, self service, good choice you will not go hungry. cant comment and evening food, but there is a harvester pub a couple of minutes walk, so we ate there. we used the pool area whichmy hubby and I had to our selves for an hour and was lovely and clean. overall a pleasant stay.

Of the 11 Accor Hotels we stayed in both Paris and the U.K. this one was the only one which disappointed us.
We were told by staff after we mentioned how disappointed we were in comparison with the other Accor hotels we had stayed that this hotel was in the process of changing over to the Accor group.
As we experienced,it would have to improve dramatically to attain the standard of the other Accor hotels.Probably room size and decore were the big downfall.

We stayed at the Mercure East for 2 nights. The staff were most helpful and friendly, the room well equipped, the bathroom clean, the breakfast more than adequate and there is a large spa facility for guests feeling energetic. There was no air conditioning in our room (though a portable fan was provided) but we were able to open the window as our room overlooked a quiet greened quadrangle. The hotel is situated about 2 miles from Chester city centre and a park and ride station is available only some 200yds away which meant we didn’t need to use our car. Only two minor points stopped us giving this hotel 5 stars. There were no drawers in our room which meant leaving most of our spare clothes and other items in our cases (unfortunately this increasingly seems to be the norm - we experienced the same problem when recently staying at a Jury’s Inn). We were therefore glad we were only booked in for 2 nights from this point of view! The other problem some quests may have is the layout of the bathroom. The wash hand basin vanity unit is separated from the bath by an approximate 2ft 6ins wide wall. Although this did away with the necessity of a shower curtain, it did prove awkward when running the bath - any small or infirm person may have difficulty reaching the taps. The Mercure East though is a decent hotel, is in a handy location and offers good value for money. We certainly would stay there again.
