Nice atmosphere, good service and food. Hopped in for a beer, decided to check menu. Bit pricy but ok

Service good although we thought the prices for the drinks were somewhat overpriced. A large glass of red wine and a pint of beer nearly eleven pounds. Might call in again if we are passing.

Popped in early on a Friday evening intending just to have a drink and was impressed by the atmosphere of the place so decided to stay and eat.
Food was good pub grub and good portions.

Second time we have visited the pub, went up on the roof part, nice fish and chips and friendly staff. Though the bar area did have a smell to what i thought was wee smell but will visit the pub again, the ladies toilets could do with having more toilet paper in and having all three toilets instead of two

This was our choice of lunch stop whilst on a hectic days shopping - and very befitting with the history of Chester. Not somewhere that we'd choose to eat at in the evening but it had enough to keep us happy. The food was quite tasty and just what we expected from a pub. We went for a shared plate of chicken wings, spicy sausage chunks, cheesy chips and other bits and pieces. A decent choice of beer to wash it down with too!
The staff that we came into contact with were pleasant and the service was fine. No complaints! The highlight of this place though is not the food, it's the history of the twelfth century building with it's vaulted stone ceilings and cave like rooms. Having served as a hospital, crypt and morgue, amongst many other things, and with ghost stories to tell too, it's well worth a visit.
