“would not hesitate to recommend this hotel”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

just arrived home after a 2 night break to this wonderful place. The staff are so friendly and eager to please, the food is delightful whichever place you chose to eat, it is very clean and the xmas decorations were to die for. We both had spa treatments and spent all morning well a little more actually just hanging out in the pool, sauna steam room etc everything was so clean. I f we had to comment on any negatives it would be that when we checked in for our spa we had to fill questionaires in and one of the questions was would you like your treatment explained to you during your massage so whilst we had never had this particular treatment we said yes, but we were never spoken to at all during the massage, only to ask us to turn over so why ask the question if its not going to be acted upon. Anyways we would gladly return and would recommend this hotel without hesitation....a truly wonderful relaxing time.

Hotel just a short bus ride out of city centre. Bus stop 50 yds from hotel. Attended a Christmas party night and it was one of the best we have ever been to. Food was excellent through out. In the function room and in the bar and breakfast. We did not reserve a table in the bar for Saturday night but the staff were attentive and asked us if we could wait about 30 mins. sure enough table was ready and we were kept informed of progress. Many thanks to Bobby for organising it for us.
Would suggest booking at all times though, due to the excellent food the place is always busy even in the bar. Rooms were lovely, nice and warm and clean. Reception staff very helpful regarding how best to get to the city centre. Cannot find fault at all.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs room 55. Which was nice and big but no view. Our friends were on the ground floor...

stayed for 4 nights at the begining of november, arrived on a saturday and it was quite busy but it got quieter, facilities were excellent and the food top rate, we had a executive double not overly big but adequate and clean, the only problem the whole time we were there was the wifi which kept dropping out
all in all good break and would stay again when in the area

We really love this hotel and visit it a lot, but recently a group of friends booked into a party night and although the dinner, bed and breakfast were up to their usual high standard, we had to leave the party night very early. The noise from the band and the bright lights were so uncomfortable, we couldn't stay. It was not possible to have any kind of conversation, so we decided to leave the area and retreated to Nelson's bar.
That said I would really recommend this hotel. The food in Ciros Restaurant and Nelsons Bar is excellent and the rooms are really comfortable and well decorated. There is a good spa and small swimming pool and there are spa packages available for those that want a pamper day. The staff are really helpful and friendly and will always try and resolve any issues. The gardens are the icing on the cake and would be wonderful for wedding photographs.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back overlook the open countryside.

We had our wedding here in October and the staff couldn't have been more amazing! We were looked after throughout our stay and had a lot of family staying from all over. They all thoroughly enjoyed theirselves and couldn't falter the hotel. The spa treatments are fantastic. The buffet breakfast has a wide selection and is definitely worth it if you pay with your room, rather than buying it separately (slightly costly - about £17!) There are 2 fab restaurants both serving great food.
With regards to the wedding, nothing was too much and the hotel manager, Maurice, and deputy, Alistair, were fantastic on the day. We couldn't have done it without them! We'll be back next year for our anniversary!

We held our wedding here last Sunday and there is nothing to say other than wow!The service from the staff was the best we have ever received and they could not do enough for you. From the waiters in the restaurant the night before to room service to the reception staff to the hotel managers (Maurice &Alastair) everyone was superb.
I would recommend this place to anyone and know that some guests are already planning on telling their family and friends. We stopped in room 75 on the night of our wedding and it was the nicest hotel room we have ever stayed in. We are booking for our wedding anniversary next year!
One other nice touch is that my mother in law mentioned to the staff that her room had been booked without breakfast by someone else by mistake. The receptionist simply said that they couldn't have the mother of the groom not having breakfast and added it on!Thank you to everyone and we hope to see you soon.x

Room Tip: Go for the feature rooms for the nicer experience.x

We booked in during September, 2012 with an offer of a complementary stay ( from our bank )- and this was actually the third available date we had given the hotel and the first free room date available for complementary guests!
Arrived early Sunday afternoon and our first surprise was the hotel is not near Chester but five miles away but easy to find on a main road.
The hotel was very, very busy - lots of families possibly due to being a wedding venue - but we checked in quite quickly.
The receptionist advised we were on the 2nd floor - wife and I are both over sixty and my wife has walking problems and uses a walking stick - so we asked where the lift was situated, as we could not take the stairs especially with a small carry on overnight bag.
A passing member of staff seemed suprised at us needing the lift but offered to take us to it - just as well - we had to negotiate through the busy restaurant and almost in the kitchens to access it!
We then had to double back on the first floor across the open mezzanine areas to the accommodation block where all the bedrooms are situated.
On finding our room we opened the door to another shock!
We were in a cupboard with a spiral staircase!
As we were only here for a night although we are both disabled with walking difficulties we decided to make the best of it and eventually went up the spiral staircase to an attic room with low beams and an even lower A-line ceiling!
Lucklily we are not too tall and only managed to bang our heads a couple of times before being able to negotiated the centre of the room and avoid concussion!
The room itself and adjoining bathroom were quite well furnished, but again the bathroom was not for the tall as we both banged our heads on the steeply sloped ceiling!
Only half the bedroom and bathroom was accessible in the middle due to the steeply sloping ceilings!
A sloping velux window was grey dirty and overlooked even greyer roof lines below!
We ventured down to the bar and found a quite corner to have a snack and read the Sunday papers, and the young waitress who served us was extremely pleasant and helpfull.
We booked in the restaurant which was a carvery for 6.30ish, which again was very busy and joined the queue for the meats and side dishes, which we found decidely average - however again the service from the staff was excellent as were dessert and the wine.
We had a second foray into the cupboard with the spiral staircase - very carefully this time - and found we had a good nights sleep in the comfortable bed there.
We didn't stay for breakfast - far too overpriced and poor reviews - and checked out, we did mention to the receptionist as we were two disabled overy sixties we were surprised at being allocated a cupboard with a spiral staircase access - nor response from him, although some form of acknowledgement or even an apology would have been nice!
As this hotel group was new to us - we normally stay in Holiday Inns or Holiday Inn Express - we found our room and food was very average, the access to and the room itself was guaranteed not to make you want to make a return visit!

Room Tip: When booking a room make sure you don't have to access it through a cupboard with a spiral stair...
