What a great shame for all the locals who visit the Grosvenor. We were informed today that the screen to watch the football was not going to be used, the same story as yesterday.. We were told that the table next to the screen was reserved, this was at 4 p.m. at 4.15 all the locals(about 10 persons) vacated the premises to go to the Nags Head down the road. At 5.30 the table in question was still not occupied. These locals spend lots of money, weekend week out they don’t wish to be lied to. They wish to spend their money drinking and doing so where they wish to do. Shame on you. Each of these people would have spent above £15 each, so you have managed to turn away £150.
Is this good management, I think not. All this has a knock on effect, so as I said before- “As you sow, so shall you reap.”

We visited this restaurant, The Palm Court when it first opened we took a business associate. We decided to go for a relaxing Saturday evening. When we booked we were offered 6.00pm or 8.45pm. We opted for 6.00pm.
When we arrived the restaurant was very quiet but we were shown straight to our table, without even being asked if we would like a drink first. So we were shown to a lovely table by the fountain, which we were pleased, as the decor and style of the restaurant is beautiful.
No sooner had we sat down the menus were thrown at us and were promptly told we had to get our order in as it was going to be busy !! We asked could we have the drinks menu first. Already our mood had changed from being relaxed to thinking what is going on here. The waiter came back with the drinks menu and stood over us, we said could you please give us a minute. He moved slightly away from the table, making us feel really uncomfortable and rushed. He returned within a minute and we just gave him a rushed order. He then asked had we chosen our meal, we told him “we haven’t even looked yet” by this time we had only been there 10 minutes. Again we asked him to give us a few minutes and he repeated that they were going to be busy and we need to order. By this time we felt like walking out but unfortunately decided to stay, but we were now extremely annoyed. He came back in two minutes and gave him our order, he whipped the menus away, my husband asked if the salmon came with potatoes, he did not seem to understand what he was being asked and just said yes, yes potatoes !!

We had ordered the focaccia to start, which arrived promptly and whisked away and our dinner followed at approx 6.30 , thirty minutes after we arrived.
The food was terrible, the lamb of poor quality, chewy, hardly any lamb on two extremely small thin lamb cutlets. The salmon utterly tasteless with a foul tasting sauce and no potatoes, just some broccoli. After getting somebody’s attention which as we had ordered everybody had disappeared, to ask where the potatoes were we were told it doesn’t come with potatoes, you have to order separate portions. We were offered to get some but as we had nearly finished rather extremely meagre portions he refrained. Once we had our food nobody even bothered to ask was everything ok.

When a waitress came to take plates away she asked did we want a sweet, we certainly did not but asked for the menus as we wanted to check the description of the salmon dish, and yes No potatoes.

So we asked for the bill and walked to the desk to pay and complain to the manager.
We told him it was our worse restaurant experience ever, and to be fair to him he was completely shocked at what had happened. We had been given a Christmas present of a monetary value voucher by our son which we gave in together with cash. To be fair he offered us to keep the cash, we refused and told him it was nothing to do with getting reduction, money etc we just expected to have a lovely evening with good food, good service of which we got neither.

The whole experience has left a bitter taste as we use this hotel a lot for business too, but never again. It was shocking, to add insult to injury our daughter in law had been in the spa for a much needed relaxing spa day, and unbeknown to us had also had a terrible lunch on the same day ! For which there may be another poor review coming your way.

I visited here with my friends to watch ‘A Night Of Magic with Robbie Danson.’ It was an absolutely fantastic night from start to finish. The food was gorgeous, the room was beautifully decorated, the staff were friendly and attentive and the magic performance was ‘mind blowing.’ I would definitely recommend that you make a point of visiting here especially when Robbie performs again. 10/10 for an amazing evening of magic and enjoyment.

It is a beautiful hotel, and great value for money. The palm court restaurant is wonderful, just a shame about the cheap ‘mayonnaise’ that was served with the otherwise wonderful food! Still highly recommend, but please fork out for the real stuff!
