“Great location”
Reviewed 18 December 2012

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in the summer. The hotel is literally on the racecourse; a few minutes walk and you amongst the shops. The rooms were of average size but clean and perfectly adequate. Breakfest was included and ok, although we went towards the end of the breakfast service one day and felt a little rushed. Staff were ok but could be more welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the racecourse!

Hotel is 5 mins walk into the centre of Chester so ideal. Free parking too when staying at the hotel which again is excellent. Rooms are small but everything you need. The rooms on the back of the hotel overlook the racecourse. Breakfast all self service but again all you need. Staff on reception very helpful booked a taxi for us for the evening to go out.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel overlook the racecourse

The brand Holiday Inn Express brand promises 'a fresh, clean ,uncomplicated hotel choice offering comfort, convenience and good value - allegedly. Regrettably our experience at the Chester race course property fell well short.
Yes it's well located - close to the historic town centre. But in most every other way it disappointed.
I am sure that the owners are proud that the management run a tight ship but that interprets to the guest as parsimonious and to the facilities as lacking in investment.
There were just three tissues in the in-room dispenser and only two tea bags.
The toilet broke - it wouldn't flush
When I asked if I could borrow an iron the girl on front desk was obliging but advised ''can you please come and collect it. I am the only person on duty'' . The iron [ a truly basic model ] didn't work.
Hot dishes at breakfast were limited to scrambled egg, sausages and baked beans. And woe betide anyone arriving a minute late because it closes on the dot of 1030.
A little more service , a more generous attitude to amenities and better staffing levels are required to make this hotel hospitable.
As for good value it was £80 for the night. Not expensive until compared to our previous night at the Premier Inn, John Lennon Airport which was just £29 - though breakfast was extra at £8.95 pp [for a very good full English.]

Room Tip: A view over the racecourse is preferable - though thats also looks over the car park

Three nights B & B for two at £145.00 is excellent value. However what was most impressive was the location. Ten minutes easy walk to the centre of Chester passing a variety of what proved to be good value eating/drinking establishments en route. Car parking was free ouitside the hotel and accessed via the Racecourse entrance (which was manned).

We stayed overnight as our Sons graduation was at 9.30am and we live 80+ miles away. The Hotel is certainly at the Racecourse, the car park entrance was not initially obvious. However the service was very good, the room was pleasant, clean and beds comfortable. As the hotel was full due to the graduation services, we were warned breakfast could be busy. However we were first up, the food was very well presented and we were surprised that there was some English Breakfast items available as well as Continental, so we thoroughly enjoyed breakfast before our busy day. We have booked again for Jjanuary 2013 for 2 nights this time. Hope for decent weather, so we can leave the car in the car park and walk into town as it is so near.

We have just returned from this hotel. Well where do I start - very clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and cheerful. The location excellent with free parking which is a godsend. We have had a lovely couple of days in Chester and would really recommend this hotel. We had a brilliant price too.

Room Tip: For quieteness have room lokking over racecourse.

Anyone wanting to go the Chester Races simply has to book this hotel because it is on the racecourse apron and it provides everything in the way of comfort, function ability and a great staff team. The breakfast is included as is the free wi fi are both are brilliant value. Chester is stuck out a bit on a limb geographically but a weekend break here gives you everything and more, particularly if the races are on!

Just a 5 minute walk in to the centre and situated right on the race course the hotel is ideally placed. The racing season is one of our busiest periods and a truly enjoyable day out.
