“Good value stay in great location”
Reviewed 5 June 2014 via mobile

Booked last minute for an overnight stay. Plenty of free parking adjacent to the hotel. Checked in smoothly, were allocated a twin room which was clean and tidy albeit in need of a slight modernisation(typical hotel/motel style) overlooking the racecourse.

Perfect location for the Winter Wonderland on the racecourse. Good little bar with a variety of drinks, within good walking distance of the city centre.
Breakfast was included which was nice enough. But was not impressed with the other guests reserving tables by dumping trays- no sign of them anywhere and in the end had to share the a table with another couple.

Would return again if the price was right, would recommend booking directly for a better deal.

Booked this hotel six months ago for last weekends race meeting. We had a room overlooking the outside bar area and it was very noisy with guests who had been drinking nearly all day. Had the misfortune to also have neighbours who banged doors all night. The breakfast made up for our lack of sleep but if we ever visit again we would have to be on the racecourse side.

Good evening,

Firstly may I thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. I am saddened to hear your stay wasnt up to our usual standards, with regard to the doors banging when guests are returning late we do ask them to keep the noise down and we also have security here to hopefully keep noise to a minimum, please accept my appologies that on this occasion you were not able to have a comfortable sleep. on the plus side i`m pleased you enjoyed breakfast and in the future should you wish to rebook if you contact us directly and we will allocate a nice racecourse view room for you

We stayed here in April 2014 over Easter for my partners birthday, perfect location to the town and lovely and clean hotel room.
The staff were brilliant to us, we got in late they arranged a take away to be delivered for us and called our room when it had been delivered.
Breakfast was nice choice and nice dining area.
Their was hen and stag parties in the hotel so ideal for them due to location, slight hill to walk towards the town, and right next to racecourse, also the parking was no extra charge :)
Deffo would stay again and recommend to others.
I don't know if their was a swimming pool so couldn't answer truthfully.

We stayed for just one night in a family room. This was our second stay at a holiday inn as we used to stay at premier inns. I think though that we are now converts. I sleep a lot better here than at Premier. Admittedly the rooms are smaller but they are adequate and of course they had to accommodate the extra bed for the children, or in our case, child.

Breakfast is adequate and although the hot food is limited, there are a number of alternatives.

I also found the staff friendly and helpful.

At the moment, I am very pleased with the group. This particular hotel was right by the racecourse and within easy reach of the city centre. As someone said, with free parking, this is a big plus as Chester is not exactly car friendly.

Stayed for the third year running as we like to go to the Races. The staff are first class from the reception staff, the doorman to the ladies clearing tables in the morning. The rooms are very clean, towels huge, bed and pillows comfortable. The only down-side is the price of the room shooting up on race days, we booked months in advance and paid around half the usual price for the race day but even then it was £99 pound which is a bit steep but its so handy for the racecourse and parking and breakfast is free, all the other hotels in Chester seem to charge a big increase on race days also. The breakfasts are ok, there is a good selection of all the usual items, the scrambled egg is usually good, its obviously not a full english but with cereal, toast, croisants, juice, endless supplies of hot drinks, fruit, yoghurt, whats there to complain about!

Room Tip: Room overlooking racecourse is good

Good evening,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay, I am so pleased to see your lovely comments about the hotel, I have passed on your comments to the staff concerned and im sure they will be thrilled, unfortunately were breakfast is concerned we are only able to have three hot options due to the hotel branding but I`m glad to see you enjoyed what we do have.
Once again thank you for your review and the overall 5 star rating

Stayed here for 2 nights In late May. Great location for the town centre and free parking and wifi a bonus.

Had a room overlooking the racecourse which was very nice. The railway line did not cause us any noise problems although the weather was cool and wet so we did not have to have the window open I am sure it would have been a different story.

On a less positive note we did have noise problems at night from guests not closing their bedroom doors considerately (just letting it slam shut) and people talking loudly in the corridors through the night. There was also an interconnecting door between us and the next bedroom. Could quite clearly hear everything that was said and done! in the next room. This style of room is a big turnoff for us. The bed was a bit lumpy and wonder if it needs a new mattress.

Breakfast was adequate. A bit better than continental and not as good as full English.

Wife left a nightie on the bed when we departed on the 3rd day. When we returned the next day we were surprised and disappointed to be told that the chambermaid had not found it when cleaning the room. Even more disappointed that a reviewer below (MAWBEY) complained about a noise problem, the manager was summoned immediately and a discount offered. Our issue, whilst more serious, was dealt with with indifference and manager not summoned. Strange set of priorities the staff have.

Like all guests we were contacted by email to complete an online questionnaire on our stay. We mentioned this incident and got no response. You do wonder if a human bothers to look at these questionnaires or it is just dealt with by a computer programme for statistical purposes. Not sure I will bother in future.

Based on the general noise problem this hotel has, the lumpy bed and the nightie incident we will not be returning any time soon. We spent our last night in Chester at the Holiday Inn South Chester. Whilst this is about a mile outside Chester it is a much more comfortable and welcoming hotel with full English breakfast included. BUT they too have an interconnecting door in the bedroom but luckily nobody next door this time!

This hotel is very well placed for access to Chester and the surrounding attractions like Chester Oaks and the Zoo. We have stayed here before and it was better second time around. The first time the beds were really hard and breakfast was a bit chaotic but this time beds were nice and soft and they had a designated area for breakfast. The only 2 things about this hotel is when booking the hotel I had to call it directly as online it stated that we couldn't all fit in one room (2 adults and 2 children) as we had stayed there before we knew our young children (aged 5 & 2) could share the double sofa bed. The second thing was before checking out we had taken the suitcases out of the room and done a little bit of shopping before going back to our room to give it one final check over and to use the toilets before our drive home. Once I got to the room I had been told by the cleaner that they had cleaned it already and that I needed to use the toilets downstairs. I had paid for this room until I check out at 11am so I expected I could go back to the room at 10.30am and still be able to use the facilities. I thought that the cleaners would have checked with reception if we had checked out before doing the final clean to get ready for the next guests. This slightly ruined our experience of this hotel but as it is good value for money and has an excellent location I don't think it would stop us going back.
