“Charming Retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

We have family in the Chester area and always stay at Cotton Farm whenever possible. We've stayed there both as a couple and with our young children and have never had anything less than a lovely, peaceful stay. Claire, Nigel and the dogs always provide the warmest of welcomes without ever being intrusive and the surroundings are idyllic. Access to Chester is good (it feels like you're far deeper into the countryside than you actually are) and the breakfasts are amazing. We've stayed in all three rooms and there's lots of space (with a huge bathroom in each), they're always pristine cleanliness-wise and offer excellent value for money. Having stayed in many guest houses and hotels around the world I can honestly say that within the price range our experiences at Cotton Farm are about as good as it gets. It's a thoroughly charming old place that we will always return to and highly recommend to others. We would also recommend the local pub (The Plough) which is a long walk or a short drive away depending on how brave you are. They do a very decent pint and good home cooked food in pleasant traditional surroundings.

Home from home environment in beautiful rural Cheshire. We have visited Cotton Farm on many occasions over the years and have always been made to feel most welcome by Clare, Nigel and the animals. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, en suite facilities and a breakfast that sees you through the day. We will continue to visit as long as the farm is here.
Thoroughly recommended!

Geoffrey and Lesley Colley.

Room Tip: All the rooms equally good; the Garden Room is our favourite but the other two just as comfortable.

We spent two nights in this lovely B&B with Claire. Everything was superb - the room was spotless, Claire couldn't do enough to help, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very much recommended, we will certainly be returning in the near future.

As a belated birthday treat I booked a stay at the Cotton farm due to its location. So glad we did, what a fabulous find! From the warm welcome by Nigel at the beginning of our stay, the great recommendation with a map and verbal directions for our evening meal, to return to a warm comfortable bed in a spotless bedroom/bathroom. We loved the extra touches like the white fluffy dressing gowns and the decanted sherry in the bedroom. The breakfast included a full English, which was cooked to our personal requirements by Clare, as well as fresh fruit, figs, cereals and toast. There was so much choice and everything was perfect it set us up for the rest of the day. Fabulous farmhouse, fantastic find, will be returning again soon.

My partner & I "escaped" for the night during half term and we're so glad we did. What a delightfully peaceful place to discover and one that we'll return to again and again as our own little retreat. From the warm welcome on a cold and rainy October evening, by Hostess Clare to the delicious cooked breakfast with plenty of everything (extra toast and coffee was provided.) everything was perfect. The Garden room/ suite was warm, comfortable and clean, with stunning views of the surrounding pretty Cheshire countryside. Clare couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and we will be returning again soon in February 2014, to celebrate our engagement. So pleased I found this gorgeous place!

Just spent a lovely two night stay, our first time staying in a farm house, we can't fault it at all.
This farm house has lovey huge bedrooms and wonderful over sized en-suites, the breakfast is to die for and cooked to your perfection by the lovely Clare who was the hostess with the mostess.

Excellent value for money.
Warm & Friendly.
Lovely views & Gardens,
Ideal Location (not far away from the nearest pub the Plough who do nice evening meals)

So if anybody is going to go to Chester we would highly recommend Cotton Farm.

A beautiful farm house, set in glorious countryside. Comfortable, cosy, with large bedrooms, huge bathroom (ours with a cheese maker's hoist in the corner!), fluffy bath gowns and towels. Bed was comfortable and warm, coffee/tea etc in room and a delicious breakfast with lots of choice including full English, Continental, fruit, cereals, fresh farm eggs and all you could wish for. Claire and Nigel are charming hosts and extremely helpful - Claire lent us her map to assist our travels on the first day.
Sheep were busy nibbling the sweet peas in the garden over the fence, and the whole atmosphere was perfect, welcoming and comfortable - a real find and only 4 miles from Chester.

Cotton Farm is just 4 miles from Chester, and easily reached by car or taxi.Cotton Farm is something of a hideaway bed and breakfast - we are one of Alistair Sawday's special places to stay. We have three spacious bedrooms, all stylishly decorated and comfortably furnished. The gardens are in the classic English style, with resident hens and greater spotted woodpecker. The Guest Bedrooms are in the original part of the farmhouse, which is at one end of the building - making them very quiet and rather self-contained.The fields around the farm are full of wildlife, and there are riverside walks through wildflower meadows over ancient packhorse bridges. ... more   less
