Stayed there for 4 days on April. Interesting building ( ? More than 400 years old) with its own brewery on site Good position. Staff fell over backwards to be helpful. Liked it so much we have booked to go back on October.

The only down side is the stairs, very steep and quirky ( and I have trouble on stairs) but the staff carried our bags upstairs ( and down again at the end of our stay) I've never met such friendly and helpful service.

We found Pied Bull from the web, and booked through it. On arrival we had to park our car, find the pub and then check in. Reception couldn't have been more helpful. They said that their two car parking spaces were taken, but told us of a close by, secure car park, which was perfect.

The room was comfortable, clean and quiet - all that in a very buzzy and busy pub.

The staff were all very friendly and efficient, and seemed to be enjoying working there, this all showed in the overall good ambiance of the place.

As they have a micro-brewery on the premises, and my partner is very interested in real ales, they were very happy to show us around and explain the brewing process.

One tiny down side. Their own brew of a dark / porter ale, finished as we asked for a pint. Just our luck. Still the other beers sampled were extremely good.

The breakfast served was very good, and again, staff serving at an early hour in the morning were still happy and smiling.

Overall a good visit and would stay there again.

The first taste of the micro brew was great. To our surprise we scored a huge room at the back with a four poster bed and two huge armchairs. It was so comfortable. The breakfast was cooked individually and the breakfast girls were so friendly. We were given directions to the laundrette which worked perfectly for us to have our washing done while we went sight seeing. The hotel was so old and charming, reception was welcoming right down to the directions for car parking in the council car park. Which leads me to the best part, one of the young barmen left the hotel and carried both our cases and shouldered a backpack and walked us right to the car park, with a smile and no expectation of reward. That is Class! Would happily go back to stay and eat there.

Room Tip: We heard no noise from street or bar, we had room number 3.

Location is perfect for a couple of days away in chester. The staff treat you like long lost friends that are returning. Real ale very good as it has it's own micro brew down stairs. All in all the only let down we did not see a ghost. Ha. Would Defo return.

Great beer, courteous staff, but accommodation overpriced. Bed and bed linen very tired and in serious need of replacement. Home toolkit would have been useful to turn bath cold tap on and off - a serious health and safety issue!

We stayed here for 1 night with another couple, just to visit Chester. Staff were pleasant and welcoming. The room was small but comfortable, although the bathroom could have done with updating. An amazingly powerful shower though- top marks for that!!
Breakfast was less than averagely good- I asked for toast, which was dry, cold and tasteless. The cooked breakfast didn't look much better.
However, we slept well and the central location meant we could walk anywhere. Parking at the NCP down the road for £5 for 24 hours couldn't have been better.

Really enjoyed our stay here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. When we got there, the bloke who checked us in even drew a detailed map of the walled city and showed us where to go for sight seeing and drinking. The pub had two lovely home-brewed beers on hand pump plus three or four of the usual favourites such as Adnams Broadside. The room was enormous (we went for the one with the four poster bed) and comfortable. Breakfast was a lovely fry up- the works including black pudding and fried bread- and/or cereal. The only thing that stopped me giving a perfect score was the early end to breakfast, and check out (9am and 10am respectively).

Room Tip: Would recommend the four poster bed room (No. 3)
