“A good introduction to Chester”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

I booked this walking tour for the morning that we arrived in Chester and it gave us a good introduction to this historic city. Our guide told us about the Romans, the Walls, the Rows, the Cathedral, the Duke of Westminster, and many little gems about the history of Chester which we would not have found out about otherwise. We later visited a few places she had pointed put to us such as an old pub which still has 'wattle and daub' in the entrance. We only got to walk on a small part of the Walls during this tour, so we did the circular route afterwards.

“Chester Walking Tour”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

We joined a 10.30 tour on a Tuesday in August. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable giving plenty of historical information about Chester and also interesting anecdotes and was very happy to answer everyone's questions - a great way to orientate ourselves never having visited Chester before. We followed this tour with a hop-on hop-off City Sightseeing tour which was also well worth it with a brilliant guide. After that we walked all round the walls of the city!

“Guided tour of The Rows”
Reviewed 31 October 2012

The Rows are such an iconic part of Chester that I'm surprised they don't feature in your list of major attractions. This was our first visit to Chester and we decided to take one of the official guided tours of The Rows, leaving from the Information Office in the town square at 2.00 pm on Friday afternoon (later discovered it was the last tour of the season, next one starting in May). There was only our group of 3 people, so we had the guide all to ourselves, which made it much more of a special event and you can always hear what is being said. The guide was very knowledgeable, not just about The Rows themselves but about the history of the whole of Chester, and he gave us a fascinating tour of some of the buildings, going into a couple of places that are not normally accessible to the public. He also took us a couple of places that are open to anyone but which may well be missed by the casual visitor - e.g. downstairs at Spud-U-Like, where you can see the remains of part of the Roman hypocaust.
Would recommend this tour to anyone, though perhaps not to families with small children and pushchairs, as you are up and down steps a lot of the time.
