What a great deal
Went in for a couple of Guinness and saw their menu. Why bother cooking at home at these prices.

“A pleasant surprise”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

We called into the Frog, never been before, and wasn't sure what to expect on entering the pub it wasn't what we where expecting it was bright, beautifully laid out, clean, we ordered off the 2 for £10 and to be honest it was beautiful maybe the steak & Guinness pie could have been slightly bigger but to be fair it was very nice, the only thing I would say maybe a bit of back ground music, will be defiantly calling again

“Service without a smile!!”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

A sons birthday meal, had heard about the "new management" at The Frog, thought we would all give it a try.
A Tuesday night and the car park was empty, so not a problem for dining then, a few tables were in awkward places, and not very spacious so our first mistake was to take a table for 6 and ONLY sit 4, not as if the place was heaving nor was it early and likely to produce a rush, (8.30), the waitress let us know it wasnt appreciated by her, she had to reluctantly remove cutlery and glasses, all done with "attitude"and a miserable face. A smile does'nt cost much.
Food ordered, not long to wait...on arrival the first thing I noted was the refried look of the dark brown chips, the presentation was ok, pub grub standard, and only 2 for £10, so wasnt expecting much. but was expecting the ability to heat a pie up as a basic thing....
the pie was in 3 temperature modes, piping hot lid, luke warm middle and stone cold greasy base, the consistency was much like mushy baby food... I could have grinned and bared it, but Why should I , a simple procedure of heating a steak and ale pie, if it be microwaved or oven baked, doesnt fill one with confidence, as to how any other meal would be.
I asked how the others meals were, the curry was tasteless, the fish and chips were very very greasy.. but birthday boys chicken was ok....
I took the meal back and ata crowded bar told them it was not cooked properly, and that NO, I wouldnt want anything else of the menu, nor would I like the chef to re heat it???
BACK AT MY SEAT, AND LISTENING TOO THE GRUMBLES AND MOANS FROM THE CHEF AND THE BAR PERSON, yes we heard you!!!
Meals over, bill placed on the table, the calculations were very wrong, thay had charged a full price for my son who had the misfortune to be my half of the 2 for 10 offer....
Couldnt believe , one of us went to the bar to rectify their mistake, nope, the " offer didnt apply if only one of them had a meal and the other didnt"?????
Another went over to sort it out, by now angry, still couldnt make the moody bar person see it was the pubs fault and not the clients fault.. almost like the "computer says no"
Eventually as my son went over, the bar person reluctantly took off the extra charge, didnt matter if it was £3.00, or 3pence... have they never heard of good customer relations???

We will never dine there again, the food is awful, the service in an empty pub was miserable, the chef needs to look at his microwave instructions, and they need to learn how to cook chips without floating in wet grease....

Reviewed 15 August 2013

this was our 3rd attempt to find somewhere for sunday lunch, the 1st pub had closed, the 2nd had a no joints due to apowercut,so we ended up at the frog and were pleasantly surprised by the food, seems to be a nice ,clean place to eat and drink....we all enjoyed are chicken dinners!!....
the presentation of the menus is more of what you would get in a cafe not a pub/restaurant...
.staff were friendly an helpful....
would go again..........

“Top notch gastropub food - just need to employ a more chefs!”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

We were treated to well cooked and presented delicious food. There is a wide range of dishes to choose from - good firm pub-favourites plus many other interesting well thought out dishes. These latter dishes were outstanding for a “pub” and merit being “gastropub”.

Sadly the management don’t appear to have their act together in two important bottom line areas, firstly woefully inadequate kitchen staffing and secondly over the top portion sizes.

Luckily, it turned out, we had decided to make an ‘early evening’ reservation the day before since I was very surprised to see people who had not made a reservation being turned away at 7 o’clock on a beautiful summer’s evening when the restaurant was less than a third full! Towards the end of our meal I realised why! One table near us cancelled their whole order at 8 o’clock after being told that another table that had been waiting for over an hour was ahead of them in the queue!

Even though the food is freshly cooked there was sometimes very slow service for us and other diners fortunate enough to be at the front of the kitchen’s backlog. Perhaps the menu is too wide-ranging to offer a service where “everything is freshly cooked”. It does seem to verging on madness to offer 2 gigantic meals for £10 when there is a desperate need to have more chefs in their kitchen to fulfil the full price orders in reasonable time!

If the owners and staff can sort out what are, after all, very basic problems then we'll be back as regulars.
