“Excellent in every way”
Reviewed 22 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Stayed for a weekend in June, had a great time with Chester as our base. Great location, support quality of fittings, bedding etc. Really friendly owners greeted us on arrival and explained everything in the house. Would stay again in a flash.

“What a fabulous find...central to Chester and superbly furnished”
Reviewed 24 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Spending 3 nights with mum, sister and sister in law. Centrally located so great for parties where some can't walk for miles into the centre. Rooms furnished to a high standard with lots of thoughtful extras. Will definately be back again. Owners lovely...especially liked the welcome basket and the whisky raspberry jam!

We stayed at Douglas Cottage for a long weekend away with friends to take in the sights and sounds of Chester and what a thoroughly delightful time we had.

We received the most wonderful of welcomes from Barbara and Andy after they were very accommodating in allowing us to access the cottage slightly earlier than planned and we could not have asked for a better start to our weekend break, it really set the mood.

Both Barbara and Andy took the time to explain how everything worked within the cottage and pointed out all the key things we needed to know and this helped us settle in very quickly without having to worry about anything other than where to go for our first beer.

The cottage itself is beautiful and has all the modern facilities you could want, coupled with the charm and comfort of a period property. It was spotless throughout and well maintained and it felt like home the moment we walked in. There was four of us in total and at no point did we feel cramped or like we were falling over each other.

The cottage is in a fantastic location, centrally located and within easy walking distance of all the history, shops, bars, pubs and restaurants.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and when we visit Chester again in the future this will be a our first choice place to stay.

Many Thanks Barbara and Andy for making our weekend special.

Reviewed 22 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Stayed here for a birthday weekend at the beginning of February. Faultless.
Owners waited for our arrival, helped with parking and showed us around the property which was immaculate, stylish, comfortable and very homely.
The welcome hamper was very thoughtful. It is clear that the owners have renovated the property with an eye for period details and in keeping with the whole history of Chester.
The cottage is very central and we could walk to the plethora of shops, pubs and cafes. Chester is steeped in history and such a beautiful place. The cottage is part of its history. Such a beautiful building.
Well equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and comfortable beds.
A weekend to remember and we would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for having us.

“If you are going to Chester then Douglas Cottage is the top choice”

Douglas Cottage is a high quality listed property in the heart of Chester. Ideal for city sightseeing and exploring the North West and North Wales.
The cottage is well equipped with top quality furnishings and fittings. We found it a home from home. Spacious kitchen, comfortable beds and a toilet on all three storey's!
The hosts (Barbara and Andrew) were really good and were there to welcome us on arrival and attend to queries. They provided a basket of fruit and essentials for first few days. The cupboards were well stocked with useful items for the longer stay (herbs, spices, bags etc.). Also provided a very interesting library on Chester and local sightseeing brochures. Our hosts really excelled in providing a top quality home for our Chester stay.

Liked best: Such a comfortable place to stay for a self catering visit to Chester.
Liked least: Car parking is in the street and daily permits(provided by host) are needed to avoid a parking fine!

“Beautiful house in a very central location, suiting our family holiday perfectly”
Reviewed 2 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Douglas Cottage was a big hit with our family of 2 adults and 3 kids between 5-10yrs. Not only did its character and charm win us over, but also its location. Around one corner was one end of the main shopping street of Chester, with restaurants nearby, and around the other corner was the park, with the playground just inside the gates. The house is really well situated to explore Chester city, and both the bus terminal for the zoo etc. and the train station are only 5 minutes walk away. We also walked approx 15 minutes to Northgate Leisure Centre for a great family swimming session.
With a welcome basket of food on arrival, an immaculate and extremely comfortable house, which had EVERYTHING we could possibly need, we could not have asked for more from Douglas Cottage.
Thank you Barbara and Andrew, we hope to be back someday!
