Being Caeliac I've been quite exited to try the gluten free fish&chips at Weston Grove especially since I read an article in 'The Chronicle" about this place. Cannot tell you whether its worth a try or not as upon arrival (at about 6.20 p.m Friday) I was told they do not serve the gluten free option between 5pm and 7pm on Friday and Saturday. I was either to wait for 40 minutes or leave without the meal. My husband ordered the meal deal, said that fish was good but chips not that great. I was very disappointed. Haven't found an information on the website about the unavailability of gluten free fish&chips on certain times of day.

Having read the website I thought I'd be in for a real treat, however, the service was poor, they're obviously not paid to sing and dance for you but a few manners and maybe a smile while taking your money wouldn't hurt. As for the food, if you rate this as good then you've not been to many fish and chip shops.

It's taken over 3 years since moving here, but finally found a chippy that serves delicious, fresh fish. Haddock is Icelandic and was white, juicy and flaky -- just as it should be.

Not really a fish and chip lover but thought it would be something different. Read the menu which promised great quality and local produce. We chose fish and chips which were supposed to be from a local butcher but they quite simply tasted like any run of the mill chip shop sausage. The chips were nice I would give them that, they were fresh and not oily. However the vinegar was like water as was the gravy. Gave it a try but nothing which would entice us to return.

One could read the flyer put out by the establishment and believe the best fish and chips in the land where on offer, the reality is inconsistency on first opening quality was excellent however on our subsequent visits (there will not be any more) the food was spoiled on one occasion by cooking the batter so fast that it resembled a Marie biscuit the fish was ruined and tasteless, on another occasion the food was ruined by rancid stinking over used oil. I find that if a chippy iis busy the fryer may heat the oil higher in order to turn around the malls in consequence, the oil and the meals are spoiled.A lot of money has been invested in this establishment the chippy showed great promise initially has plumited. Did the principles of the company start off the business hands on and then take a back seat?Fish and chips are simple to cook modern chip ranges are virtually automatic why do so many chippies (Chester has among the poorest in the UK) fail to provide a simple well cooked meal?
