We chose Edgar house primarily because of the reviews on TripAdvisor. These do not do justice to tell what a fantastic haven this place is. Mike an Tim are just about the most knowledgeable and accommodating hosts anyone could require. From the moment we arrived ( A day earlier than planned, but Mike had reserved a room over the phone for us), nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is right on the river, and on the city walls, so nothing is too far away. We had arrived for the Christmas market and Winter Wonderland, but floods and RNLI work made for a rather stressful time for me and my wife. Mike and Tim were the essence of calm and succeeded in making our stay enjoyable. We loved the little quirky things, such as the honesty bar (old telephone kiosk - lovely beers and cyders!) to the cinema room and prints from Bob Dylan adorning the walls. The "Edgar high bed" in our booked room was fabulous although my wife had to take a running jump to get on board - all part of the fun!. Nice thoughts like under-floor heating in the bathroom kept out the winter storm, also the range of teas and coffee in the bedroom was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of items on offer, although we had to rush the last morning, having to return home to help out due to the problems of the flooding in the Rhyl area.
All-in-all, we can say Thank you to Mike and Tim (and Lucy) for making our stay very pleasant and enjoyable in times of stress. You are really a haven of peace in a mad world. We certainly hope to return soon (preferably in Summer!).

Room Tip: Rooms with the balcony are more expensive but well worth the extra

Dear Paul
Many thanks for your great review. The weather was rather ominous wasn't it? The storm surge pushed the water at the weir to unprecedented high levels. I hope all was not too bad for you back in Rhyl. Thanks ever so much for coming to Chester and staying with us. We would love to welcome you and Mary back another time.
Very best wishes,
Mike.

Edgar House is the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The room was sheer luxury, bathroom indulgent and afternoon tea in front of a blazing log fire out of this world. Just a five minute's walk to the shops and restaurants, with wonderful views over the river, the location could not be better. Thank you Mike and Tim for doing everything possible to make our stay so special; nothing was too much trouble. The attention to detail was amazing. We shall be back!

Room Tip: Great views over River Dee, unmissable!

My fiancée and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Edgar House. We were lucky enough to find it and chose it on the strength of previous reviews - you can believe all that you read, it's fantastic. Edgar House is ideally situated within walking distance of the sights in Chester and also for a wide range of local restaurants, meaning that you can enjoy that extra glass of wine or pint of local Spitting Feathers ale. Mike and Tim, the owners, were pleased to provide recommendations for a number of local restaurants and to arrange reservations (La Fattoria Italian and Ruan Orchid Thai were both excellent and within 5 minutes walk). Mike provided a tour upon arrival and explained all of the little touches, including an honesty bar housed within an old telephone box and a cinema room. Our room was superbly appointed with a huge four poster bed with views over the river. The attention to detail is what really stands out. The conversion over a number of years has clearly been well thought out. Even the tea bags are silk - what more can I say? We were also shown the other rooms (there are 5 in total) and all are of the same high quality, including one with a copper bath. The food is also excellent and keenly priced. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Edgar House to anyone, so much so that we will definitely be returning. Mike and Tim are dedicated hosts, for whom nothing is too much trouble. Thank you both. Room Tip: All rooms are excellent but the riverside balcony is a great choice.

Dear Andy
It was lovely to meet you and Caroline, and we're ever so pleased you loved our place and Chester. You must try and come again in the Summer and make full use of your balcony! :) Thanks too for the bottles of cider you left for us. I had one last night. Don't remember much afterwards :)
Take good care and hope to see you both again soon
Best wishes
Mike.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to find Edgar House when looking for accommodation for the Chester marathon. We have never taken the time to do a review on trip advisor but both felt we must do on this occasion to help spread the word for this fledgling business. (I'm only sorry it's taken me a few weeks to do so!!). The hotel is in a beautiful and very central setting with direct access onto the city walls which is a lovely walk. Our room had a fabulous view of the river and the decor was stunning throughout and all the finishing touches were to an extremely high standard. Edgar House's owners and staff are extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble (like an exceptionally early breakfast and awkward food choices!!). The food was superb and lots of amazing cakes to choose from for afternoon tea! We really couldn't fault anything during our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone. If staying in Chester again, we wouldn't consider anywhere else.

Room Tip: Can recommend overlooking the river as lovely view

We have just returned from a two-night stay in Edgar House, and just cannot praise it too highly. Everything was wonderful - the setting, on the ancient walls, overlooking the River Dee and yet minutes from the centre of everything, the decor, the service, the comfort... Mike and Tim are most friendly and attentive and did all they could to make us feel at home and cared for. We loved Chester too, and can't wait to return for more treats!

Room Tip: We didn't see any other bedrooms, but ours - Riverview Deluxe - was delightful. The large bed is...

We always aim to stay in good places when we get away together for some R&R and Edgar house is at the top end of places we have stayed in.

From the warm welcome to the fresh Honeycombe at breakfast everything was absolutely spot on.

The room is spacious, well appointed and exceptionally homely in feel and decor. The views from the window over the weir and the old bridge are fabulous, it's all so relaxing that it would be easy to forget about everything.

We could go on enthusing about the place, the breakfast and even the superb coffee & cake in the afternoon before we left, everything was perfect.

Thanks again to Mike, Tim and our waitress (sorry we didnt get your name) in the afternoon, you made our stay.

Once you have stayed here - you will never want to stay in any other hotel in Chester! It is quite simply superb. A lovingly restored house with views onto the town walls and River Dee. The rooms are delightfully decorated as is the whole house and you are immediately made to feel at home by Mike and Tim. And home it is - but better. A fascinating variety of art work on the walls and even a mini cinema complement the ambiance. A leisurely breakfast will set you up for the whole day. We know where we will be staying whenever we visit Chester again!

Room Tip: They all have great views
