145 five star reviews ?!? Surely this can't be right... it absolutely is, and so well deserved. This must be one of the most amazing B&B/hotels I've ever stayed in. The attention to detail is second to none. As I'm writing this one of the owners has arrived with a complimentary homemade chocolate brownie !! Seriously :-) The owners are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. Already deciding what weekend to book next year for our 1st anniversary :-)

We have just spent a weekend at Edgar House and were delighted to have stayed in such an enjoyable boutique hotel. The setting is wonderful as it overlooks the river Dee and is just within the castle walls. Food is first class and Mike & Tim the owners are perfect hosts. There was nothing to disappoint!

Room Tip: Overlooking the river is a preference.

We've just returned from a trip to Chester, but the stand-out feature in this beautiful city was this astounding hotel. Perfection is hard to attain, but Edgar House comes as close as one could imagine. Every detail has been thought through, and nothing is too much trouble. The highlight might possibly be the Honesty Bar in the telephone box, but every part of our experience was a delight.

Room Tip: Just book and you will get a good room.

Having been unable to find a suite at the Grosvenor with a decent aspect, I trolled the local B&B's and stumbled across Edgar House and how lucky was I!

An immaculate establishment with service and catering both at breakfast and at lunchtime to match.

I have already recommended this facility to colleagues and friends, whilst perhaps we have 'done' Chester, Edgar House alone might well justify a revisit.

Really excellent small hotel just inside the southern edge of the city wall, and with a rear view overlooking the River Dee weir.

The building is actually very presentable Georgian and the main entrance is tucked away behind a quiet side street of well-maintained heritage terrace houses. But only 5 minutes walk away from a superb traditional Joules pub, the Cross Keys: do visit.

Once inside the Edgar, you can't help noticing the interior design. Contemporary, light and subtle in the public areas with a more individualistic twist in the guest rooms. And check out the wide-ranging honesty bar in a converted telephone box at the foot of the stairs.

We stayed in a Riverview Balcony Deluxe and what a good choice. So quiet, comfortable and pleasant to dwell in, with a spacious balconied seating area overlooking the city walls and the river. The room itself was, as elsewhere, well furnished and tastefully decorated - including beetle-patterned wallpaper on the ceiling, and supplemented by quality furnishings throughout. Hip high-bed was odd, and I always wrestle overnight with a duvet, but no complaints about comfort as the bed linen was top notch. What else; big HD TV opposite the bed, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, plenty of storage space and no shortage of coat hangers, choice of bottled water, comprehensive and readable hotel guide. Basically, everything you could want - unless you had an urge to press your trousers!

Then there was the standout bathroom. 10 out of 10 here - a commendable effort. Didn't use the invitingly shaped free-standing bath, but certainly was very happy to enjoy the walk- in shower with its rain forest drench-effect head. Plenty of heat, plenty of space and all equipment easy to use. The whole room was tastefully tiled from floor to ceiling. To be honest, the sort of bathroom that I would aspire to have in my own home.

More to discover at breakfast, which is taken downstairs in the erstwhile library (not as posh as it sounds) with tables laid up to conform to room occupancy, some of which are positioned to enjoy the riverside view. There's a comprehensive a la carte breakfast menu with each course served at your table. I would endorse the very generously sized toasted tea cake, to be followed by the full Edgar breakfast which features top quality sausage, bacon and egg - all locally sourced.

Finally, big thanks to our host Mike for making us so welcome and for solicitously ensuring that we were always comfortable. Plus a genuine good guy to boot. Saw his co-conspirator, Tim, at breakfast time; also friendly and clearly keen to ensure top notch output. Didn't have a chance to sample lunch offerings, but the examples that I saw being delivered to diners in the riverside garden looked pretty good to me.

Overall, I can't think of a fault or a flaw which was exposed, or that occurred, during our stay. In essence, the place was practically perfect. I wouldn't even bother to look elsewhere if I was ever in the city again. So ... wholeheartedly recommended! Well done, guys.

My husband and I stayed here whilst visiting the Open golf in July. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel so welcome. A tour of your room and hotel is given by Mike with pride and professionalism and the facilities and "little touches" such as if you prefer still or sparkling water by the bed ,fresh milk and homemade chocolate brownies at bedtime are very appreciated. Tim runs the restaurant which is superb starting with the immaculate white crisp linen(even at breakfast) the friendly and efficient service and not to forget the delicious food. So many hotels nowadays say they are "boutique" and that they offer high levels of service , I would suggest that many of them should visit the Edgar house to see how it should be really done! I can't wait to go back and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to people who like nice things and nice people!U2YE37C

Room Tip: I can't imagine that any room would be inferior

We stayed at Edgar House in July and really loved it. Mike and Tim were so welcoming and friendly and the staff were very polite and efficient. We stayed in two rooms (due to our arrangements) - one of the deluxe rooms with a balcony overlooking the river, and one of the superior rooms. Both were absolutely gorgeous. Incredibly comfortable beds, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. So quiet and relaxing - lovely to hear the gentle background noise of the weir, and the air was so fresh and clean (compared with London where I currently live!). Terrific location. I would thoroughly recommend this lovely hotel, and will be returning!

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely but go for one of the deluxe rooms with a balcony overlooking the river as the...
