This is the 2nd time we have stayed here and it is the only place to stay. Walking distance to the town and free parking. Nothing is too much trouble and breakfast is beautiful!! Just perfect!! Would recommend Mitchell's of chester !!

Thank you for your comments. With so many people saying they intend to stay with us when next they visit Chester, we must be getting a few things right. Thank you again.

Very clean well decorated premises with the little touches provided to make you feel relaxed and at home. Good quality bedding and the bathroom completely up to date with a walk in shower in our room, although this had quite a narrow entrance. Anyone over a size 14 would find it difficult to squeeze in. All the facilities we needed were present, such as shoe cleaning stuff, teapot and plenty of coffee, drinking chocolate etc. Cold milk freely available, I hate the long life stuff! Fridge in the room but all these facilities did mean that our room, Azure, was a little small and short of floor area. Double bed only, most now offer a king don't they. Lovely lounge available for residents, and the honesty bar is a nice touch.Good cooked English breakfast, but we found the poached eggs which we had with smoked haddock were overcooked. A little strange to also serve tomatoes, hash browns and mushrooms with this meal, perhaps that is personal to me though.

Room tip: Perhaps rooms at the back will be quieter, the hotel is not double glazed and road outside is quite busy.

Thank you for your review. We try and cover most things that people like. It's a case of pick and choose from the array offered. Likewise with the rooms; the facilities are similar and the tariff reflects the size of which one you choose.

My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous 2 night stay at Mitchells. We had a gorgeous deluxe queen size room and it really was incredible.
Breakfast was delicious with a wonderful selection of cereals, fruits, cheese and biscuits from a buffet then followed with a freshly cooked meal of your choosing from a menu. Your hosts also offer fresh fruit juice and tea or coffee as well.
The friendly couple, Helen and her husband (I'm so sorry I've forgotten his name) are very knowledgeable about things to see and do in and around Chester and will happily sit and talk with you in the lounge about it.
We were given a very warm welcome on arrival with tea and cake and had a lovely chat with Helen.
Thank you so much for helping to make our stay so enjoyable, we will recommend you to anyone looking to stay in Chester.

We had a wonderful stay here at Mitchell's Guest House over the weekend. Helen and Colin (great hosts) couldn't do enough for you - a lovely welcome with coffee, cake and biscuits and a chat about Chester and places to go and see. We had a beautiful room, so clean and had everything you need for a great stay. Breakfast was so lovely, the best we have ever had. We certainly will be returning in the future. Thank you very much.

The building itself is impressive and picturesque. Once you go in you are met by Helen and Colin - very attentive hosts -showing you to your room; with the offer of taking tea in the lounge. They genuinely want to know about your journey and if you need any help or advice about getting around Chester / seeing the sights.
The lounge is wonderful. There is a huge selection of books to choose from, a radio, TV and a piano with music books! Obviously the piano is not to everyone's taste but having played in school, 30+ years ago, I managed to pick out a few tunes which I found amazing! We do not drink alcohol but could understand how others would make good use of the Honesty Bar. There is a lot of information available about Chester and nothing is too much trouble if you have questions or need a bit of help. We had the 'Azure' room, which was lovely. The selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and Horlicks surpasses any selection I have ever had, including in 5 star hotels. The decoration throughout is quaint and while not to my taste in terms of how our home is decorated, creates an ambiance which feels old fashioned, almost stately, like being in a period drama. Staying here feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Breakfast is by far the 'piece de resistance'! You can tell from the menu that a huge amount of effort had gone into sourcing high quality local produce. Helen makes her own muiseli which is delicious. Once you have made your selection, Helen serves a plated cooked breakfast followed by Colin, silver serving the beans / tomato / mushroom accompaniments. Definitely happy to recommend.
