The Mill is in a wonderful position astride the Canal. It is very advantageous in terms of being near the station and the town centre. The restaurant is very peaceful - just the place to eat beautifully prepared dishes and watch the long boats glide past. The service is superb. The window tables are to be recommended! Our room was very comfortable and had plenty of storage space, which is sometimes lacking in hotels. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. When my husband had to return to London due to a prolapsed disc, the staff were extremely sympathetic and stored his luggage until I was able to travel to Chester to retrieve it. I was worried about his car, taking up a space in the car park although he was no longer a guest. Whenever I telephoned, I was told not to worry and that my main consideration should be my husband's needs. Everyone was so kind and always enquired about his recovery. I really appreciated this at a very difficult time. Next time we visit I hope to experience the spa and swimming pool.

Room Tip: On the canal and over the bridge away from the bar

I’m not sure if we had a standard double, or the one up from that but the room was quite excellent for 109 quid: spacious; lovely big arched window overlooking the canal; sofa, table and chairs; nice bathroom; all clean and comfortable. The staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. The bar is brilliant if you’re a real ale fan and just fine if you don’t really care what you pour down your throat too (judging by how buzzing it was). Breakfast was nothing startling: standard large hotel fare and the continental selection was unimaginative (you are up North after all). All in all, we left feeling pretty pampered – recommended.

Very easy to find with easy parking. Well run with friendly staff. Room was clean, comfortable and had everything you needed although in warm weather I do think it will be stuffy. Breakfast was well organised with good choice and they serve until 10.00a.m. We didn't use any of the facilities other than the lounge upstairs which was comfortable and peaceful. Afternoon tea on the barge was enjoyable and well woth £10. Overall great location and good value for money. We would definitely stay again.

Comfortable family room. Stayed here with my 2 children to visit Chester whilst husband went off for business meeting. Were welcome to continue to use hotel facilities like pool etc even after 11am check out. Friendly staff though breakfast was a little disappointing. Overall a good base and will use again.

Paid £122 per night for 2 adults & 1 infant B&B. Large room, very good breakfast. Dining options not suitable for family with infant. Bar very busy so only option was Peppermill cafe with limited menu. Pool was closed for redecoration when we wanted to use it.

Room was by road with traffic noice.

Generally needed an update. Shower was over bath & you had to twiddle hot & cold tap to get correct temperature.

Good hairdresser in hotel. Good choice of restaurants in Chester. Short drive to Zoo.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from road.

This is the easiest hotel to findi have stayed at, good staff, very good real ale at pub prices, good spread for breakfast,. best situated for all the touristy places, only downside was our room was near the road so we had traffic noises all night, but room was large and very clean.
