“5am rain shower”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2012

Basic room but very comfortable bed - pity we were wakened at 5am by the rain coming in. Work on the roof above hadn't been sealed and the rain came down. No alternative room available. Leaks in the bedroom required moving the bed but the bathroom was literally a wash out - shave and showerd at the Leisure centre. Reception apologised but would have expected better response.
Swimming pool really good - 15m - great for a swim instead of usual hotel "dip". Leisure centre open to public so might get busy - not a problem at 6pm when I visited. They have lanes roped off for swimmers. Good sauna & steam room beside the pool. Gym looked reasonable but not of interest to me.
Could have been a much better experience so wouldn't rule it out in future

Room Tip: Avoid upper floors if roof works ongoing. At least 2 rooms were affected when I visited

On arrival we were allocated our business class room which unfortunately was amidst scaffolding and building work. After a call to reception we were moved across the bridge to a complimentary club class room.
The room was spacious, well equipped with a king size bed.
Our meal in the restaurant was lovely accompanied by a very good affordable wine list.
We made use of the pool, jacuzzi steam room and sauna which were beautifully clean
The mill and spa is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Chester along the canal path.
Staff were very helpful and we recognised many from a previous new years stay some years ago which must say something.
We would highly recommend this hotel and will look forward to our next stay

This hotel is very convenient for everything in the city centre and yet is relatively quiet being adjacent to the canal. The staff are really nice and helpful and as we were a group of 13 they arranged our rooms to all be together on the same floor and we took advantage of a really good deal in mid week. Dinner was included on the first of our two night stay and was extremely good. Very good value for money and a great place to stay.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and each time the service has been excellent, the rooms clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast, which is included in the price, of good quality, wide selection of choices and plentiful. No negatives at all.

I have stayed at this hotel several times before as I come up to Chester twice a year. This time we are in the Champagne room, which is superb and worth the £27 extra compared to club class rooms. You get the room cheaper if you don't actually want the champagne! Apart from a large bed with overhead canopy the room has a minibar, flatscreen tv, wifi and a huge bathroom with twin basins, bathrobes and slippers and a corner whirlpool bath that has a light that changes colour! This is the room for me from now on :-). (232). I enjoy the bar meals, which are excellent and reasonably priced. The restaurant is excellent and so is the choice and service when you have breakfast. They do a fabulous river cruise with a Roman theme. I cannot fault this hotel. It is friendly and the service is excellent. Love it!

This hotel has a very good location only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Chester. Free car parking is provided in the hotel's private car park. Room facilities are very good with a high level of comfort and good bathrooms. The public areas are adequate but could benefit from a good overhaul. The hotel is always very busy and this shows especially in the bar area. Dirty glasses left on tables and outside by the canal which is the smoking area. The hotel operate a floating restaurant serving set meals nightly. This is a novelty but unfortunately the canal trip does not fulfil your expectations. The barge travels for a short distance in one direction while you are being served a starter then returns to the hotel to collect the main courses. The barge then travels in the opposite direction for a few hundred yards while you are eating your main course. There is a stop at the end to allow smokers to get off and have a cigarette before setting off to have your desert and return to the hotel. The atmosphere on the barge is very pleasant but from a sight seeing point of view fails miserably. The buffet breakfast is excellent with a very good choice of cooked and cold food. The restaurant is always busy and serves some very good food with a good choice if you decide to have lunch or dinner in the hotel. The spa is excellent and not overcrowded. Overall we had a very good visit and would return to this hotel.
The staff are very attentive and are always willing to assist.

Room Tip: Rooms above or facing the bar from across the canal are troubled by noise until the early hours.
