“We will return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. All the staff are very courteous and polite and give the impression nothing is too much trouble. Managers: you should be very proud of your staff. Hotel room was very warm and we had to speak to them about them about a constant droning noises outside our windows. The staff worked hard to find out the problem and provided us with a fan. Eventually found out it was the extractor fan that had been thrown out of timings by electrical surge.
We made full use of the spa area everyday and this was kept immaculate. Pool just the right temperature.
I had a relaxing massage that was over far too quick.
Breakfasts are second to none with plenty of choice. Prices in bar/restaurant are no different as a comparison to anywhere else in Chester which is unusual for a hotel.
We will return and I would recommend this to anyone so book if you can get a place!

“Mostly very good - good value.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

Stayed for one night in July. I will list the good points first -
Efficient check in staff, and happy to let us check in early, leave baggage in the lobby and return for the key after 2pm. Enabling us to go around Chester without lugging luggage with us.
Location is great. Handy for the train station and town - I'd estimate that the hotel is a halfway point from station to town.
The room we had was perfectly kept, clean and tasteful.
The Spa facilities were lovely - nice warm relaxing pool, great steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Not too busy on a Sunday afternoon.
The bar area was comfortable with great bar staff, and pleasantly surprised at the reasonably priced drinks. Wonderful array of well kept real ales.
Lovely breakfast, plenty of choice and fresh and tasty.

The bad points as we saw them -
The room itself was unbearably hot and stuffy. Despite there being a small desk fan provided, it just did not do the job. This hotel in all seriousness needs air conditioning.

We ate at the hotel restaurant on the Sunday night as they do a 2 course meal for £14. This was a well researched choice on our behalf, and the sample menu on the web site was very fancy. However, with it being Sunday (evening) the only choice available was roast beef, roast turkey, roast salmon. We just would not have gone had we known - it was too late once we had sat down. Despite this, as roasts go, it was delicious.
I'm not really sure why they do this, but in the restaurant only a tiny part of the available restaurant is used - so when we arrived at 8pm for our booking, the small usable area was jam packed. We had to squeeze into a row of other tables, and it really ruined the whole experience of eating in a nice restaurant. At breakfast I can understand why this would be fine, but at dinner? The tables were so close that it really felt like we were all one big group with the people sitting either side of us. We did try and sit somewhere more private on arrival but were told that the area was being used as a 'waiting area'. This was just a deflection from the true reason I believe since it was not used as a waiting area, and we weren't the only people who made the same request. Disappointing and could so easily be a wonderful place to eat and relax. Wish we had gone out to another restaurant where we could have relaxed and enjoyed each other's company rather than having to watch what we were saying and trying not to listen in on other conversations.

The only other downside to the hotel which can't be as easily resolved as simply not eating at the restaurant is the fact that there is a constant sound of traffic from the nearby roundabout on the ring road and bridge over the canal. If you are very sensitive to road noise, this might be a problem for you as you will certainly need to have the window open for some fresh air.

All in all, we had a nice stay, and we were very happy and excited to have had a complementary room upgrade as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. A lovely touch. I would consider using the hotel again as the experience was mainly positive.

“Cheap and cheerful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

We booked on Monday to stay last night - hotel was clean and comfortable and you get a good deal for what you are paying.
Breakfast this morning was great, fresh fruit not just tinned and the service was pleasant.
The swimming pool area was nice - we used all the facilities last night. Jacuzzi steam room and sauna were all lovely and hot!
Some of the hotel is a little dated and we would have preferred to have a more modern room (414) but the bed was comfy and would recommend if you're staying on a budget

“Canal boat dinner - excellent food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

This whole trip was so well organised from start to finish. Menus given out in the Hotel bar and half an hour later we were boarding the boat. Had our starters followed by a sorbet whilst sailing in one direction along the canal. Then sailed back to the Hotel where our main courses were taken on board. Then we sailed in the other direction whilst having our main course. We passed ducks, ducklings and some very pretty little houses along the way. We stopped for a break and were able to get off the boat for a short period and stretch our legs. Then we returned to the boat where we had our dessert and coffee whilst completing the last leg of our journey. A really good experience and would definitely recommend.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

This hotel is ideally situated if you are visiting Chester. It is only a 10 minute walk from the lovely city centre and also has excellent links for travel to other towns/cities nearby.
The hotel staff were friendly and it is a very clean, well run hotel.
We ate in the restaurant the first night and the menu / food /service were all excellent.
Will definitely return and wouldn't hesitate in recommending.
