You know what you're going to get with a premier inn and this one is no exception - no unnecessary frills but not sparse either. We had a family room with lots of space. Good breakfast. Staff were really helpful witht my little boys food allergy - especially seeing as kids eat free at breakfast.

We booked this hotel some time ago as we wanted to visit the zoo and Liverpool. The hotel was ideally placed for both. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, particularly Karen who went out of her way to ensure we were happy with everything. We bought our tickets for the zoo from them and were fast-tracked through when we arrived. We went on the train from the station opposite to Liverpool - a family of up to 5 can use the train all day and includes a trip across the river mersey for £14 but you have to buy these from the main chester train station. We had breakfast and evening dinner in the Egerton Arms next door and had no problem with any meal, we found the staff here were helpful and courteous.

We travelled back from our holiday in Scotland and wanted to break the journey up and we had also been told that Chester was a good place to visit by our children so this is why we decided to stay here.
The receptionist at this hotel was very welcoming and went to a lot of trouble to explain the bus routes into the town when we enquired if it would be better to leave the car behind in the car park and take public transport.
The room was clean and tidy and the only fault we could find was with the heating which we could not turn down to cool so we were very warm all evening and during the night, even with the window open. Another plus was the car park was free during your stay if you obtained a pass from reception.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the building are away from the main road so are quieter.

The staff work very hard to keep people happy with this lodge, I think Premier Inn need to update the lodge to a standard that we expect. Also it should be made clear that the restaurant it not a whitbread house.

We stayed for 2 nights. To start with the room was very hot and the fan provided wasn't adequate. We had to have the window open but we was next to a main road so the traffic noise was quite loud. The bed was very uncomfortable and made horendous creaking noises every time you moved. We did complain about this on checkout and got a refund for 1 night!! The food next door in the pub was sub standard and of poor quality. The tables were dirty and we had to ask for ours to be cleaned before we ate. We pre paid for our breakfast and that too was at best poor. The bacon was burnt, the sausages were uncooked, the beans were cold and the poached eggs had rock hard yolks! I will never stay here again!

Room Tip: The only tip I could give is not to stay here!

The hotel is some 16 years old now and is starting to look tired. Nevertheless it is in a good central position with a bus stop as near as dammit right outside and the bus takes you right into the city centre. The breakfast was the usual; good Premier Inn fare and thoroughly enjoyable. Ate out so can't say anything about the evening meals, but the cakes/gateaux looked sumptuous. Sue the Receptionist was a lovely lady, friendly and helpful. The room was good and the bathroom/shower also. But, like the earlier reviewer the bedroom and the stairs etc were a hothouse. The bedroom window had been left open as much as hotel windows can be these days, and there was a fan in the room. Whilst the fan helped, all it really does is move the hot air around. It made the time in the room, and sleeping, very uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we are returning in October and I shall ring before departure and ask them to open the window and turn of the heating before we arrive. This heat issue (and the outside temperature was not that hot at all) was a real downer and the only issue during our stay. But for us, it was a BIG issue.

Room Tip: I have marked the rooms as "poor" purely due to the heat issue mentioned in the main revie...

Straight to the point with no bull!

Rooms very hot even when cool outside, so hot it makes it hard to sleep.
Doors squeak in the corridors keeping you awake.
Floorboards are SO noisy! Above and in hall keeping you awake.
Breakfast is well below average, don't bother paying for it.

We have stayed in many premier inns but this one was so bad we demanded a refund as we had little sleep because of the noise.

Room Tip: Don't take room number one!
