“Wouldnt stay again.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

Me and my partner came to chester for a night out on the 7th july. when we arrived a the stafford.we was told our room was room 37 at the top there was no lift so had to walk up about 6 flights of stairs. walking up the stairs the cleankng cuboard door was open and everythin was in the hallway very tacky. we got to our room the ceiling was caved in in 2 places. only 2 flimsy pillows on bed so we asked if we could have more was told by a snotty woman they had no more. We thought we would have a drink in the hotel bar witch wasnt even open. the next morning we went for breakfast after being told it was a full english this wasnt the case. The staff asked every person if they liked tea or coffee apart from us so we walked out and went to town for breakfast. upon checking out we asked if we could store our luggage as we wanted to go shopping we was able to put our luggage in bar area. when we came to get our luggage he lady was quizzing my partner on how he got in and if hed stayed there. wasnt going to give us our luggage. terrible service they need to learn some manners. never will i stay again

booked 3 rooms 7 months in advance for chester races on sat 30th jun12 booked hotel because location seemed ok and a lot of good reviews about full english breakfast .
sister in law traveled from essex so decied to stay on the thursday and friday night before she booked this seperatly.
when she arrived she was advised kitchen was closed and the could not provide a full english breakfast, but were offered a £10 refund per day .[we were not advised of this in advance]
when my husband and i along with other friends in 3rd room were on our way , my sister in law called to say that a sign had been put up advising that no one could check in till after 2pm [first race was a 2pm].
she went to reception to advise that we would be there shortly after 12o,clock and would it be possible if our room was ready that we could check in or a least check in to one of them , she was told that this would be ok .
when we arrived we were then told this was not possible , i did say that we were going to the races and would not be able to check in at 2pm and why were we told that it would be ok the lady that dealt with us who i think may be the cleaner just shrugged her shoulders .
we then asked could the room keys be left in my sister in laws room who was already a guest the said that this would be ok.
once the races were over a 525pm my sister in law called hotel to make sure everything was ok with rooms as we were going for a meal and would not be back for some time , she was then advised that we may not even have a room now as we had not checked in ???? WHAT eveantualy rooms were sorted, but really dident need the stress.
whilst staff dident seem to have a clue what they were doing they were fairly pleasent, and hotel although dated was clean.
was not advised about breakfast changing from full english to continental at any point just paid £10 less when we checked out.
i am a travel agent as so was one of the other members of our party will not be recomending this hotel to anyone . hey really need to get there act together.

I'm rating a 2* as a 2*, not staying here and expecting 4* royalties. Another birthday bash, Sat 16/06/12 this time mine, staying as 4 women in our 40's intending to stroll into the city centre for early evening for a bite to eat and visit the local pubs. We do this 4 times a year meet up and enjoy our nights away from the hubbies left at home to fend for themselves and look after the kids. The hotel is very basic, but come on you are right in the city centre, its costing you £40 a double room, and thrown in is breakfast. Across the road is the premier Inn costing £65 a double room and no breakfast included but for an extra £8 each you can have it then bringing your overall stay up to £81. The room was a little dated, but I'm not here for a week I am here for a night out with the girlies, somewhere to shower, changed and out to come back to hitting the pillow and getting up for breakfast and on our way home, bedding was clean and fresh, pillows fine. Trudie who took my booking is one of the nicest people I have ever met, we emailed each other as I asked if we could extend the room past 10am, she was so helpful, and when we arrived she was still as helpful. The bar lady who I didn't ask her name was chatting to us in the bar, and when we got up for breakfast in the morning again the first person we saw was Trudie, who again was so accommodating. We chatted with everyone and they were really nice! I don't know if people get their heckles up because they are expecting more than they bargained for, as I notice from some comments that people put the staff over as rude. I find this bizzare and think that rudeness is only down to how you present yourself when staying somewhere, if you are going to disrespect staff you can hardly expect them to offer you respect back, they like us are humans. I didn't get to say goodbye to Trudie as she was busy helping get the rooms sorted, but what surprised me most was being given a birthday card from the staff at the hotel. Can I just say a big thank you to everyone at the Stafford for making our stay a most enjoyable one. And a big big thank you to Trudie for all her help. If it is basic you want with just a pillow and a brekkie in the morning then this is your place if you want more, dont moan on here, book somewhere else in Chester to stay, I am sure you wont really find much at the price they ask for their rooms............................

Room Tip: We stayed in a family room number 18 this was on the front and we didn't mind as we laughed hear...

awful. this was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. the staff were rude and very unfriendly. i could not get out quick enough. the room stunk and the bedding had staines on. if your on a budget find a cheap hostel. the staff were appaling.

Excellent hotel, with large clean and tidy room. Nice walk to centre of town. Not far from railway station. Great breakfast, well informed & friendly hosts

There was no shower in the bathroom. There was half a bottle of bulk bought liquid soap in the bathroom and no other toiletry. The whole hotel is extremely drab and the room was dreary with the only natural light being a tiny window in the corner of the room with broken blind partially covering it. Cutting too many corners. Would not return.

I read lots of reviews before booking this hotel and some were very bad. I was a bit worried but when we arrived we were greeted by the owner, who was very nice & helpful. If you stay here there is parking up the road between two hedges, at £5 a day. Also take your own hairdryer as the one in the room has a switch that you have to hold in and your hand slips off. Also if you get a front room you need earplugs as it is the main city road.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back and away from any fire doors as they slam shut.
