We booked a two night stay here for before and after a friend's wedding, in nearby Saughall. We paid £90/night for the master bedroom for two, to include breakfast, and it was worth every penny and then some. We've stayed at some wonderful B&Bs in the UK and this is one of the best!
Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated in keeping with the character - lovely high ceilings with beams. Massive bed, very comfortable, and extra pillows and blankets as needed. Lots of space (and hangers) to put clothes away too.
There was a glass of sherry each waiting for us in our room on arrival, and some mints. The owner, Sam, was very welcoming, showed us to our room, and explained about breakfast. We arrived late but this was no problem for her at all. There was a lovely open fire on when we got there, which, after an epic journey on the M6, was very welcome.
WOW. Massive bath big enough for two. Rain shower (separate). Big fluffy towels. Robes and toiletries (including the basic stuff like toothpaste and shaving foam that everyone forgets) were provided, which was a nice touch. His + hers sinks with a big mirror each, plus a large freestanding mirror within reach of the sockets! If I had one (very minor) criticism it would be that the hairdryer could be better, luckily I brought my own, but it wasn't much better than the travel ones, and good ones wouldn't cost too much to put in.
Perfect for my meat-eating husband, and lots of continental choices for vegetarian me. They also offered me the non-meat elements of the english breakfast, which was nice, but it was a shame there wasn't a proper veggie option, with veggie sausages, for example. The fruit/yoghurt, pastries/toast selection were all excellent though and still better than many places we've been. Another nice touch was the lemon drizzle cake available mid morning!
It was perfect for us, as we drive, and the wedding was nearby. The local taxi company advertised were very good, fairly priced and on time. We didn't explore the grounds as we were out most of the weekend, but they looked lovely and well-kept. There's parking outside the B&B too, which is always helpful, and a cash point at the post office up the road (they don't take card).
We would definitely come back here if we were heading up that way again, a really lovely place and a credit to the owner!
