This B & B was booked months ago for a late holiday. It was good as any four star B&B should be.New carpeting had been fitted, but the bottom of our bedroom door had not planed off,so it was quite a job to open and close.the room was good with a recent en suite fitted. The breakfast room was pleasant, and both continental and full english offered. The bed, often a bone of contention with guests was good and a nights sleep assured.we enquired about somewhere to get a steak,David advised The Blackhouse Grill,so off we went. The top steak was £55 per head.We didnt ask about anything else. The Cheltenham Lodge was good, and you cant get better than good..

Room Tip: Its on a busy main road,so rooms at the back are best,we had family room.

As most people only read the headings of these reviews, it could be miss understood and to be honest it confused me. However after reading on it became clear that you were happy with your stay and service we provided at the Cheltenham Lodge.

With the mention of the Fire door to your room, it had been planed. However the carpet fitter was not willing to plane any more off as he stated that the carpet would compress and if he taken any further off, it would leave a large gap(from door to carpet) than the Fire Officers would be content with.

I am sorry that you were unhappy with my recommendation of restaurant. The reason I directed you there was because you had a meal in another restaurant in Chester of which you were, in no way happy with the quality of the food or service. And as you requested a good steak; the restaurant I recommended, you are guaranteed both quality and service, as well as other steak and fish dishes from their menu which are no more expensive than any other restaurant in Chester. I was not willing to recommend to you a restaurant that would under achieve to your standards you specified.

Just to make a point for future clients, due to extensive road works on the other main approach road to the city of Chester, we are experiencing busier than normal traffic on Hoole Road.

I look forward to welcoming you back & once again thank you for the kind words gave me on your departure.

Kind regards
David

Stayed here early September 2011 whilst Chester Races was on.

This is more a guest house than a hotel as it doesn't have many rooms at all. Upon arrival we got the last space in a rather tightly packed car park (max 4/5 cars). But this was part of the reason we booked - we simply left the car there for 2 days at zero extra cost.

Location is very good. It's about a 20 minute walk into Chester but there are lots of pubs in the vicinity (one opposite and two really good ones on nearing the city centre) and about 4 different banks!

The owner David works SO hard, it's unbelievable. He let us in and showed us to our room immediately. He showed us all the facilites and explained how to get into the city. He is very friendly and very chatty. At breakfast we were offered a huge choice which was excellent. There was cereal and toast for self service, and then the kitchen provided full breakfast (choice given), different types of egg and tea/coffee. It really set us up for the day.

Upon leaving for the races, David was already cleaning each room himself, slaving away at the washing machines. Whilst we were out, our room was given the most intensive clean and tidy I have ever come across. Even clothes left on the bed were nearly folded and put on the chair. The room was completely tidied from top to bottom. It was a little OTT for my liking(!) but my fiancee loved it.

Breakfast on the second day was the same excellent quality and David remembered we'd been to the races straight away and was as friendly as ever.

We paid on checkout (not on check-in like most places) - just a quick tip; there is a 3% charge for credit cards but not debit cards. But even with this charge it was still only £37.50 per person bed and breakfast per night.

An added bonus is free secure wi-fi, something which we didn't get in the Novotel Liverpool the night after! The only thing to fault was the bed was a little hard for our liking and the shower door not the easiest to open and close.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone staying for a short break in Chester.

Thank you for the great review. I am sorry to hear that you think that we need a larger car park, please note that we have 5 rooms and offer 5 customer car paking spaces. However if just 1 person parks awkwardly, this does lessen the spaces available. To eliminate any worries to future clients, we have an agreement with the manager of the property just over the road to be able to park any over spill and also have free parking on the main road.

I look forward to welcome you on your return visit.
Kind regards
David

My partner Shaun and I stayed at the Cheltenham Lodge and we must say that David was so helpful and hospitable. The room was lovely, furnished beautifully and extremely clean. The breakfast was also very good. We will stay at Cheltenham Lodge again in the future.

Excellent for a short break in Chester. Easily accessible with great service and great price. Our only grumble would be that the heating wasnt under our control and so it was cold at night.

This was our third visit to the Cheltenham Lodge in 12 months. Twice with relatives from Canada, who were thoroughly impressed with the standard of accommodation and service. David, the proprietor, is an excellent host, full of helpful information on where to visit in and around Chester. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Choice of menu for breakfast is outstanding. Thoroughly recommended. Looking forward to our next visit.
