Stayed here with the grandkids whilst visiting the zoo. Nice hotel in walking distance to the centre of Chester, professional, friendly staff. Good hearty breakfast to set us up for the day, sat outside in the secret garden in the sunshine.

Great Central hotel close to the river and town centre. Superb breakfast. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The room was spacious but lacked wardrobe space if staying more than a couple of days

Really comfortable beds

A few things why I probably wouldn’t book here again

There was a smell when we first got there. Turns out there was a blocked toilet that we didn’t know about. Only found out when the other toilet got blocked also. Not a nice smell at all. Ventilation not great also. Yes, it’s a vault so no windows but something needs to be done about the smell and the heat when it’s warm.

It’s looking quite dated. The photos online look great but close up not as nice. Stains on the floor, stains on all the chairs, bodged up repair jobs, ripped carpet, bathroom tiles coming up and showers door mechanism could do with deep cleaning. Iron burn mark on carpet.
Some cobwebs that couldn’t been dealt with.
Cracked door window at the main entrance.
It’s probably time to now for a re-decoration.

Room tip: No parking but there’s 30min bays for free which means you can at least check in and drop off bags before finding a parking spot.

Thanks for your feedback, and appreciate your comments. Our Vault is actually undergoing a refurb this coming fortnight - redecoration and carpets, there is a difference between clean carpet and stained carpet unfortunately, but can appreciate your comments, the Vault is exceptionally popular, but also as a very "group" orientated room, it also sadly gets heavily abused, we just wish people would treat with more respect, but we do our best to keep it a lettable space.

Myself and 13 friends stayed for a hen do on a Saturday night. We were all really impressed with the hotel. For a starters, the staff are sooo nice, everyone from the reception staff, breakfast staff and barmen were welcoming and friendly. Shout out to the bar man who saw the bride and instantly handed her a glass of Prosecco and recommended loads of good bars to go to (and which to avoid haha).

Check in was easy and we were able to store our luggage before check in so we could go for lunch. The rooms were spacious and well laid out and had everything we needed (little water bottles and choc bars were a nice touch) the beds were really comfy!

We had a drink in the secret garden bar which was really cute setting and we had breakfast in the restaurant in the morning - very tasty well cooked breakfast and lovely cup of tea.

Location was perfect - 5 min walk to the river and 5 min walk to the famous clock and bar areas.

Would highly recommend this hotel and will be looking to stay again! 🙂

We booked the vault room as we were celebrating a Freind's 60th birthday party and after seeing photos on TripAdvisor we couldn't wait to check in and start the celebrations.
We checked in and received our key to the room we quickly dropped of our bags as we were meeting more Freind's in town.
On returning later that evening I could not believe how dirty the carpets were and cracked tiles on bathroom floor, also ripped carpet and skirting board hanging off.
Following morning on checking out no one on reception and box on the wall to put keys in.
I did email the manager of the hotel and he felt that I was threating him by putting my honest opinion on TripAdvisor.
Please if you are thinking of staying in Chester please book elsewhere.

I never understand why people are so rude. Thankfully as most reviews show, we have a lovely 3 star hotel that is top 10 on TripAdvisor for a reason. We are sure you will avoid us in the future and that's fine.
We will always take constructive criticism, but sometimes reflect on how you direct your views.
Thanks

Lovely hotel in a great location about 10 minute walk to the centre. Excellent service especially the lovely lady who served us breakfast and recommended places to go (I’m sorry I didn’t get her name). The hotel has a fabulous bar, The Secret Garden where we had a few drinks but lots of people were enjoying an afternoon tea. Had a lovely stay and would recommend.

Room tip: Try to avoid a room at the top if you have mobility issues as there are a lot of stairs.
