“Always thrilled to visit!!”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

Over the last 6yrs we have enjoyed several happy visits to this excellent restaurant! Always a warm welcome and fun atmosphere!
Of course years ago, you could enjoy a cigar with a brandy upstairs after a wonderful meal - alas no more.
Standards of attention, food and style remain as ever! Certainly one of the best steaks ever.

“Yum,yum yum”
Reviewed 11 April 2013

We were overnighting in Chester enroute to Hollyhead for the ferry . It was a Monday night and my first and second choice restaurants were closed. I phoned Upstairs at the Grill and was able to get a table for 7pm. How lucky we were ! The meal was a triumph.! The meet and greet was excellent, upstairs for a pre meal drink (mini Cosmo was lovely and hubby has found a new make of gin to buy) . The explanation of the steaks on offer was entertaining and informative. The dining room is small but with a great buzz. We chose not to have a starter as our appetites had been whetted already with our choices of steaks. Hubby chose the USDA and I had the Chateaubriand for 1. Like most others we also ordered the triple fried chips and beer battered onion rings. The steaks were fabulous and the accompanying sauces( Diane and pepper) still allowed the meat to shine. Service from start to finish was faultless. The wine list was interesting and covered all price points. We took a short break before desert , lemon tart and sticky toffee pud, both appeared homemade. We never felt rushed although this may change at the weekend. All in all we had a great night . Expensive?, maybe , but it's not somewhere you would go every week for dinner ,a special occasion restaurant that's not pretentious or snobbish with old fashioned customer service.. We have already recommended to friends .

“Superb Place”
Reviewed 9 April 2013 via mobile

Booked the same day for the evening and were fortunate to get in. We opted for this place due to the excellent reviews and were not disappointed. The staff are very efficient and polite and the range of steak and accompaniments were outstanding. The steak board is a nice touch to explain the cuts of meat and ours was cooked perfectly with excellent triple cooked chips and onion rings. It is not a cheap night though but it is worth the treat. The deserts we had were excellent too.

Overall highly recommended, enjoy.
