There's steak and then there's Upstairs at The Grill Steak ! These guys specialise in top quality beef steak. You start upstairs for drinks and food order, and go downstairs to eat.
We both had the beef wellington with fresh veg, and enjoyed all of it.
Minor point but the veg could have had 3 minutes more in the pan.
Good food, very good service, not the cheapest, but you pay for good standards these days.

From walking in we didn't have a reservation, we were treated like royalty with a very relaxed and professsional atmosphere, nothing was too much trouble, there was no rushing round which gave a calm relaxed atmosphere, and then the food, WOW was fantastic, the best steak i have had in a long time, we did not feel rushed only relaxed and content, i would DEFINATELY return and i live in manchester

Lovely atmosphere
Service was excellent both drinks and food where personally explained perfectly
I dont eat steak in England because its rarely cooked as requested and/or is tasteless however I was persuaded and loved it as much as New Zealand meat.

We went to Upstairs at the Grill for my husband's birthday for Sunday lunch. We took our two children who are 8 and 3. The prices are normally very expensive for a Sunday lunch but with the 2-4-1 offer is makes it more reasonable. We ordered a bottle of house wine at £20. The wine started at £15 minimum which we felt was quite expensive for house wine. We ordered garlic bread for the children's starters and as anyone with small children will know they do not eat big portions so we ordered two small meals of sausage and mash and fish and mash. There is no children's menu here and they tell you to just choose something off the adult menu for a smaller meal. What they don't tell you is that when you are taking the 2-4-1 offer they charge you full adult prices for the children even full starter price for garlic bread. This meant that the total cost of the meal was actually very expensive for a lunch. Had we known they were so inflexible with children we would not have booked at this restaurant at these prices.
The tables are very cramped in a small room downstairs and it felt like we were sitting with the people on the tables either side of us.
The food was disappointing - we both had lamb for our main course, it came with mashed potato, cabbage and gravy (no other veg). It felt like we had gone back to school.
Overall we would not recommend this restaurant to anyone with children but even without the children we would not choose to go here because the tables are so cramped in.

We visited this restaurant on a whim having seen the menu as we were walking past. Cannot comment on the restaurant decor as we dined at the bar upstairs. The food was excellent, well cooked and well presented. Service was efficient and accurate but very relaxed. The whole meal was unrushed and relaxed and we will certainly be returning!
