“downstairs room disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2009

We were recomended this restaurant by the Grosvenor hotel as their Simon Radley resaurant was fully booked. They said it was special but I would call it ordinary and more like a pub dining room than a restaurant. We were asked to be seated upstairs whilst we chose from the menu and had a drink. The menu is explained very well by the staff. All staff were polite and friendly. There was a man sat on a stool at the bar eating which we thought was strange for a restaurant. We then went downstairs (not upstairs???) to eat. The front door was open and it was cold and draughty. I wore a dress but jeans would have been more suitable attire. The tables were too close together and felt like you were in a school refectory not a classy restaurant. The steak was nice and portions were big, but i've had better. We didnt have desert we wanted to go to find somewhere warmer and more comfortable. I think our expectations were too high and if you want to go for a casual meal and enjoy a steak then this place is ok.

“So good I booked a table for three weeks later on the way out”

Best meal i've ever had. USDA imported New York steak, incredibly friendly and polite staff. Food was just superlative, I'll say that this will be the best steak you'll eat in the county, pricey however, £120 for 2 all in with tip and 2 half bottles of wine.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2009

The whole experience was excellent! From the moment we entered until the moment we left. Very relaxing and we weren't rushed at all unlike some places we have been to. Food was excellent, gorgeous! Afterwards we went back upstairs and had some cocktails. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and will definetely go back! Well worth the money!

“Steak house serving top steaks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2009

There's steak and then there's Upstairs at The Grill Steak ! These guys specialise in top quality beef steak. You start upstairs for drinks and food order, and go downstairs to eat.
We both had the beef wellington with fresh veg, and enjoyed all of it.
Minor point but the veg could have had 3 minutes more in the pan.
Good food, very good service, not the cheapest, but you pay for good standards these days.
