“"Outstanding"”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

Myself and my partner have just returned after a fabulous stay at the Highcliffe. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen the right property for us. We stayed for 2 nights here to celebrate our anniversary and enjoyed every minute. Our room was great (room 1), with breathtaking views over Falmouth harbour and the room was decorated to an extremely high standard. We took advantage of the complimentary 'idle breakfast' on our first morning, where we enjoyed breakfast from the comfort of our own bed. Fantastic touch.
To summarise; fantastic bed and breakfast, fantastic location (2 minutes to the beach, 6 minutes to the town), fantastic service, fantastic standard. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had an extremely memorable stay. I have already and will continue to recommend the wonderful Highcliffe. Thank you Simon and Vanessa!

Thank you for writing your review on Highcliffe, it is very kind of you to spare the time.
We're over the moon that your anniversary stay was an enjoyable one and really pleased you got to see what this area of Cornwall has to offer. St Mawes which you got to visit is a real gem of a place on this coastline and we know you got to see it in great weather too.

You have summarised lots of details so well and we really hope that you now make regular trips to this part of Cornwall. Thank you also for the mention of our "Idle Bird" we're glad it gave you an option to have a bit of an extra lie in.

Stayed 2 nights at this wonderful B&B in Falmouth. Easy to find with plenty of parking either on-site or on the street. We were made very welcomed by Simon, who with his wife Vanessa, are more than helpful in suggesting places to see and things to do, and very informative about the local area.

The room (No. 1) was very nicely decorated, with plenty of space/storage and tea making facilities. The bathroom was also spacious and the shower was very relaxing. There was a nice view of Falmouth harbour from the room.

The breakfast was delish. It ends at 9am so if you're prone to sleep in, like we did one morning, make sure you set the alarm to enjoy the lovely local produce.

The B&B itself is a short 5-7min walk to the town centre where you can enjoy some fine restaurants, including Rick Stein's seafood. Falmouth is a great place to use as a base in Cornwall as it's only an hour's drive from most destinations (St Ives, Padstow, Land's End etc).

Thanks again Simon and Vanessa. We will be doing our best to make it back for the Oyster festival in October!

Room Tip: Room 1 is on the ground floor, no stair climbing required.

Thank you for taking time out to write a review on your stay at Highcliffe. Your details and the summary of your room are really good and very kind. We are really pleased you both enjoyed your 2 days with us and got a chance to take up our recommendations with some of the restaurants that Falmouth has to offer, there really is a great selection in town and we are very lucky indeed.

We would love you to come back for the October Oyster Festival, it really is a great 4 days of celebrating quality local shell fish as well as being able to see it prepared fresh off the boat right in front of your eyes, and if you would like to rest beyond our breakfast times please do take a look at our "Idle Bird" breakfast in bed option offering you a hamper delivered to your room full of local produce.

Thank you once again for staying with us and for writing a review and we hope to see you in October.

We stayed here for four nights and had a wonderful stay. Lovely Hosts and Simon was very helpful of what to do in and around Falmouth.

Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed.

Breakfast was delicious, with great specials and they even had Vegemite for any Aussies. The only critique is in our room the Wifi signal was intermittent as it is a long way from the router (we were on the top floor) so if Wifi is important to you (which it wasn't such a big deal for us) choose a room that is on the second floor.

A sensational B&B, with great hosts and a delicious Breakfast. Highly recommended!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay at Highliffe it's very much appreciated and we always like to get the thoughts of international travellers.
We're really pleased you had a wonderful time in Falmouth and were able to sample what the town has to offer as well as enjoy your stay with us and your time in the top room.
Thank you for bringing up the wifi as it does allow me to check that it is all behaving as it should. I'm so sorry you found it to be below the usual standard and am only sorry you didn't ask me to look into it during your stay with us, we will always try to solve any problems as soon as is possible to make your stay the best it possibly can be. The router is not a standard one and knowing that we have to get a strong wifi signal to the top of the house and through the very thick well built Edwardian walls of Highcliffe we purposefully got a router that provides a good signal through out the house no matter which room you are trying to connect from. Having checked the broadband connnection coming into the house I did found that dust had collected in the connection box so thank you for alerting us and as you say it wasn't a problem for you but we will always try to fix things if we are told at the time the guest is staying with us so we really encourage people to mention anything they found below standard to us during their stay.

We're glad it didn't effect your stay and even more pleased you found the Veggimite as it justifies us getting more and it is one of my favourite spreads.
Thank you once again for the time you took to place a review and we would love to have the opportunity to host you again should you return to Falmouth.

My boyfriend and I had such an enjoyable stay at Highcliffe. Room 2 was so cute and spacious, with a massive bed! The whole place was spotless and breakfast was very yummy, we recommend the Idle Bird, lovely muffins!
The only tiny negative comment is that the biscuits in the room were a bit soft in the jar, hardly worth a mention though!
Thanks to Simon and Vanessa for making us feel very welcome, and for the informative chat on where to find things in and around Falmouth. Will be recommending to friends and family.

Room Tip: Room 2 nice and spacious with a massive bed and view of Pendennis Castle

It is ever so kind of you to take time and write your review. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and also the information we gave you about what this area has to offer. Thank you also for going for our Idle Bird option a good one if like us you want a bit more of a lie in and chance to take breakfast in bed when you're away. We're glad you did mention the biscuits and we really apologise for that, we immediately checked the glass container that we store them in for your room and found that the hinge to the lid had bent therefore not creating a proper seal , we do thank you for bringing that up as it's not good to find biscuits like that. Rm2 now has a new container and we promise, if you return to us and we hope you do, that along with all the other good things you mentioned you will also have very crunchy biscuits in your room for your tea or coffee.
Thank you again and see you soon.

Our second visit to Highcliffe was again wonderful. We stayed 4 nights this time in room 1. This was a smaller double room on the ground floor, but still had everything we needed and a lovely view over the harbour to Flushing. We loved the decor in this room which was very contemporary and individual and the shower room was of a high standard and spotlessly clean. Once again we appreciated the extras available - the fresh milk in the room, biscuits, and the help and advise from Simon. Breakfasts were great as usual - always with a 'special' option (I can recommend the Nutella toasted one!) and nothing is ever too much trouble. Simon and Vanessa always make you feel so welcome, so if you are looking for an excellent modern B&B in an enviable location with parking available, we would highly recommend Highcliffe and will definitely be back for a 3rd visit.

Two rooms down just 6 to go. Thank you for returning to us and for the time you have taken to write your review. You get a gold star for championing the "chocolate toast" special, we love it and as long as you do it means we can keep buying yummy Nutella to make it with. Really glad you also enjoyed Falmouth again and very much look forward to the 3rd visit. Soon we hope.
Take care.

Unfortunately we could only stay at this lovely b&b for one night but during our short stay we managed to meet both owners who were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Our room was very clean, fresh and comfortable as indeed the establishment was throughout. The decor was delightfully contemporary with outstanding attention to detail which was also applied in other areas such as catering to guests needs. The tea and coffee facilities were very good and the little beauty extras such as shower cap and cotton pads came in very handy! The breakfast was delicious offering a selection of local produce and again staff were polite and helpful. I will definitely be recommending Highcliffe to my own friends and family as well as to those reading this review.

This B&B is run with so much passion by Vanessa and Simon. The location is great, the rooms are designed and refurbished to a very high standard and the breakfast is a real treat. You don't just come and sleep here but receive excellent recommendations for activities and dining as well as a great introduction into Cornish history and geography from the owners.
