“Alternative New Year party”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2013

Arranged as a group from work. We normally do this Alternative New Year party at the Falmouth Beach - which burned down and is now flattened!
All in all it was a really good event in a nice hotel. The beach and seaside theme throughout makes it bright and clean. We've stayed there before, and room decor and furnishings had felt a bit tired and jaded but this time all seemed to have been refreshed.
We'd extended our one night stay to two, having the earlier day and evening to spend with relatives who live and work in Falmouth (so we are regular visitors). Our standard room was in the Captain's House next to the main hotel. It was lovely, with an entrance lobby with the large bathroom and bedroom through separate doors. Because of the flattening of the Falmouth Beach hotel we had a fantastic sea view which exceeded our expectations for a standard room.
The food, service and music for the party was great. Just a couple of points for the hotels consideration if they intend continuing with this type of event. The long narrow tables don't work as well as round ones would. Also, the table was set for six aside, but that was really pushing it on comfort. The two on the open end where only able to sit half in front of their place settings, and half in the gangway. Five aside- if they have to belong narrow tables - would have been perfect. Obviously, round tables overcome the elbow room issue and the 'out on the end' issue too making for a better social experience.
I agree with all that has been said about breakfast. Long waits for tea and coffee, lukewarm food, cold plates (had been hot on the first morning we were there, but seemed volume overcame quality on second morning). Generally got the impression that breakfast team were under pressure that they weren't used to! Perhaps the hotel might consider extending breakfast time to overcome the 9-9:30 rush which always seems to happen.
So whilst I give a Very Good assessment, if these few things were sorted they would have got an excellent. So, if you are staying outside of the party season, you may feel you can disregard my 'issues'. I must add that I had no complaint about breakfast on previous stays, so assume it is the volume of 'late' breakfast arrivals that they need to sort out, again if they intend to continue to take advantage of the party market.
We will return and look forward to seeing some of the finishing touches ironed out.

Room Tip: The Captain's House is lovely - away from the main hotel but close enough not to feel you have t...

I recently stayed at this hotel at the beginning of January. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet location. On arrival you enter the reception area and you get a feel for the clean and fresh decor which is fabulous. All staff cannot do any more for you, very attentive and friendly. We ate in the Flying Fish restaurant which was delicious, and the brekkie the following morning was also just as excellent.

The spa is lovely, reasonable sized pool, very clean area along with the sauna, jacuzzi etc.

Room was not massive but had everything you could have wished for, apart from the noisy neighbours in the next door room returning at 0300 hrs. The beds are extremely comfy.

Would definitely love to return and recommend this hotel, it's a gem.

We stayed as part of a new year package making it a very reasonable B and B rate. Staff at check in where very helpful, and all staff encountered where of great help except the restaurant staff. Everything was too much trouble and nothing could be done with a smile. Breakfast was a bit of a shamble, they have a hot selection however this should be renamed the Luke warm selection: eggs had to be ordered however on the last morning having waited 40 minutes after ordering a single fried egg we decided to skip the egg. The room was of a very high standard, however we could hear everything of the couple upstairs, the bed was also two singles which had been zipped together- simple things which make the difference to it being a fantastic stay to a good stay.
The pool and spa area are of a good standard however one evening when we used the pool it was so full as it is also open to the public.
Overall it was a very pleasant stay just a couple of things which could be worked upon to make it much better.

Firstly thank you so much for leaving this review. It is good to hear you enjoyed the main part of your stay, Thank you also for leaving such detailed feedback regarding areas that were not so good.

We are aware that there have been some issues regarding breakfast service. I have mentioned already that these issues have been reviewed by our Restaurant Manager and Food and Beverage Manager. From guest feedback some changes have already been made. The feedback we have had within the last 4 weeks has been very positive so we are keen to believe we now have it just right.

Once again thank you for your review and I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back.

This is the first time stay at St Michael's , which was booked by our family in Perth Australia as a getaway in between xmas and New Year for our elderly mother as they were the only Hotel that had facilities for the disabled/ elderly , total in party five.for three nights.
On arrival just after 3pm only two of the rooms were ready,,thankfully the room for our mother was one of them , so we were able to get her settled in , her room was on the ground floor , large and had a very large wet room , which she loved.
While we waited for our room , we had a drink and sandwiches in the bar area , We ordered toasted sandwiches , but unfortunatly the kitchen staff did not know what that meant and we received cold slightly toasted bread ,fillings were also cold. not great .
once advised our rooms were ready , we had the double sea facing with balcony rooms , which were clean ,large and comfortable ,but not worth the costs
We had booked for dinner in the Flying Fish resturant at 18h30 , dinner was nice and the staff were helpfull although would have benefitted from some more supervision ,
Breakfast , food was good , although we found the staff on this shift were not very good and it did take some time to get the correct coffee (from the coffee machine , which cost extra) and have the toast delivered before we had all finished our meal.
On the Saturday afternoon / night the hotel had a wedding and childrens party in the function rooms which were under our rooms , and the noise did disturb us at night , as well as people that were in the rooms above us both .
Overall we found the hotel was expensive, but the location and Spa /Gym facilities were very good .
I do not think we will return to this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a constructive review. We honestly do appreciate this kind of feedback as it really does help us to move forward in any areas that may need improvement.

Having said this, I am sorry to hear that there were areas that you did not enjoy and that these issues were not resolved during your stay. We do aim to resolve any issues a guest may experience during their stay so that the rest of the stay can be enjoyed.

With regard to the noise disturbance you experienced, I would like to apologise. We do not usually allocate a room that is near a function to a non function guest. I am sorry that this happened.

We have prioritised rooms that we know can be less quiet and these have benefited from extra sound proofing. The feedback from our guests is very positive.

I am sorry that this does not put right the issues during your stay, however I do feel confident that if you were to return we would be able to offer you the St Michaels experience we are proud of.

We went to St Michaels on the New Year Break deal with 4 other friends. this hotel is like a tardis, from the outside it looks small and then you go in and it goes on and on! Very nicely decorated in the theme of a large boat, rooms were nice and clean, beds very comfortable and the staff very friendly (and surprisingly - mostly English!). Food is excellent, we had only one complaint but it was quite a large one - service at breakfast was dire! 20 mins to bring tea and toast, and this happened each morning, it put us off ordering 'off piste' from the buffet as it took so long to come. This poor service did not happen at any other time of day though - only at breakfast - very odd. All in all we had a lovely time though

Thank you for this review. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay but am so sorry you experienced bad service during breakfast. This is an issue that has been raised and as I have said in an earlier reply, even in the time since your stay we have made some changes that have made a huge difference to the service provided at breakfast. We are sorry that this affected your stay but we are happy to reassure that we are certain this will not be an issue any longer.

Once again thank you for taking the time to review St Michaels and I hope we can welcome you back soon.

We have been visiting this hotel for over 30 years! The standards of cleanliness, service and cuisine are excellent and complemented at all times by professional, helpful staff. Nothing is too much trouble and St Michael's retains a lovely ambience throughout.
We maximise use of the pool / sauna facilities and these are always immaculately maintained with the useful provision of dryers and GHD's in the changing areas. The showers can be cool at times !
Every aspect of this hotel combines to ensure a first rate ,relaxing break and we can recommend St Michael's without reservation.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a sea view...advance requests for quieter rooms always honoured.

Wow, how lovely to hear from one of our true regulars! I guess there is no better recommendation than from guests who have stayed as many time as you have! This is fantastic and I am so pleased to be able to welcome you back each time!

I guess you must be quite familier with most of our rooms, I would be interested to hear which is your favourite room so far!

We look forward to welcoming you back again!!

We stayed at St Michael's for the second time last night following an email from the hotel just before Christmas offering bed and breakfast for £20.13 per person. Of course, by the time I phoned to book, the standard rooms had all been taken and we had to upgrade to a select room - which was worth the extra money. We also added dinner onto the booking, which cost us £108.26 in total. We arrived at the hotel just before 4, and our room wasn't ready. We had a coffee in the lounge, before heading down to the spa as my husband had booked massages for us both. The treatment was lovely, and the relaxation room located within the spa area was a wonderful space to enjoy after our massages. After some time in the sauna and steam room (which was busy, but pleasant enough) we headed back to reception to get our room key.

Our room was located in the captains house which was separate to the main hotel. The room was beautful, lovely furnishings and fabrics plus it was spotlessly clean and much larger than the room we had previously stayed in. We could see the sea and we experienced no noise or disturbances.

Dinner was also very nice. Friends joined us and we all agreed that the food was excellent and the ambience and decor was spot on. The waiter would have benefitted from a few more lessons...asking the ladies first, not asking for pudding orders at the same time as starters and mains...but he was very pleasant. Our only complaint was that we wanted cocktail's after 11pm and the night staff were unable to make them...we settled for other drinks :-)

As a real treat (we'd left three young children with my parents for the night) we had breakfast in bed! A total extravagance, but one we'll certainly partake in again! The food was hot and the choice was vast. I'd recommend the pancake stack.

All of the staff were extremely friendly and professional, and we'll definitely be returning - probably for to nights next January! :-)

This is the perfect kind of review for us, full of compliements with a few constructive comments too. It really is good to get this kind on feedback from our guests.

This was such a popular offer, I am glad you didnt miss out! So many people have to upgrade due to availability but like you, are glad that they did!

If you get the chance to escape for a child free break again please do return, failing that we do have some lovely large family rooms!!

I will be sure to pass your comments on to the relevent people and if there are areas that need fine tuning we will be sure to do this.

Once again thank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review.
