“What A Relaxing Break”

Beautiful location, lovely rooms, friendly staff, great local walks and nice pubs. A hotel that goes out of the way to make your stay special. The flowers are fresh and the staff always seem to have a smile. A lovely long weekend that left us wanting to stay for longer. The food was very tasty, plentiful and varied, breakfast was a real treat , evening meal was excellent, presentation fantastic, the steak was beautiful. Cannot wait to come back!! Well recommended

Having been to this hotel's former guise, Green Lawns, many times in the past, I didn't know what to expect when revisiting as the rebranded and refurbished Merchants Manor. I was amazed to find that the hotel has taken on a whole new persona, the newly decorated reception rooms and restaurant not only look fabulous but feel homely!

We sat for dinner during a jazz night, which may I add was great - The Grace Notes really know how to put on a performance! The meal was delicious and the portion sizes were generous, this was all accompanied by a wine which best suited the dish - the Brasserie deserves a AA Rosette or two, wow!

The newly refurbished gym has great equipment and wasn't too busy and the instructor was VERY helpful.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to my family and friends, going to wedding here at the end of May and I can't wait to visit again!

Some reviews here say that it's a 25 minute walk into town/beaches which is true if you walked VERY slowly, the town is a matter of a 10 minutes which is closer than other big hotels in Falmouth, and the beaches are around a 5 minute walk to both Gylly or Swanpool.

looking at the picture maybe I wasnt at this hotel but yes I was.The gardens once upon atime were extensive but now reduced to one small area with little in the way of seating.most outdoor seating is located in smokers corner.Unless one has one of the upper storey rooms in the old house there is no view only that of a corrugated or something like that roof next door inhabited by noisy seagulls.the noise from the nearby sports facility is deafening especially when the window is open with no air conditioning windows are likely to be open.Toiletries are sparce.towels are not changed as often as one would like.Food is good .portions are large but there is a failure on request to reduce the portion size. All meals ex breakfast have to be preordered which is not the best as I like to choose when Im ready to eat.Although this did not affect me there is no lift and the front of the premises has a large gravel area which apart from the noise is not good for the heels.I cannot comment on the spa as I didnt use it.
However there was little to no water to the washbasin and shower and despite 2 requests nothing happened to remedy this. This seems from other entries to have been a problem for some time yet still not attended to. Bar was expensive and wine seemed only to be sold by the glass. Taxi from hotel to town centre is £4 last bus is at 4.30 approx .nearest beach a fair walk but can be reached by the shuttle bus £2 each way Over all this hotel does not do what it says on the tin and I shall be very unlikely to return or recommend

Dear pilgrim09,

As those who read our responses will know we only really respond when we feel there is a real strong need to do so. To all our regular and happy guests we thank them for their feedback and for all those who can appreciate the vast improvements or simple want to give some balanced input we thank them too. However in this case we feel it is only correct for there to be some balance to the feedback. As you are aware we asked you to leave the hotel a day earlier than the rest of your group due to your appalling behaviour. This was a real shame but as you chose to continue down a certain route we had no alternative but to withdraw our hospitality to you.

Let me address each of your points.

The award winning tropical gardens occupies just under 1/4 of an acre of land with the rest of the land devoted to a golden gravel parking area. We have seating in them for 20 guests (the smokers have a bench for 2 people).

We have a total of 39 bedrooms in the hotel of which just over half have sea or garden views and nine with private balconies. We allocate guests based on request and type of room asked for, you had made no requests and your room was allocated accordingly. Yes we have no air conditioning in our rooms and neither does any other hotel in Falmouth as the hope is you can enjoy the fresh sea breeze that floats up from the coast.

Toiletries; we use toiletries from Gilchrist and Soames, we supply the Bee Kind range which as well as having very high environmental credentials also sends a proportion of money towards protecting the bee population. If you needed extra the team would happily have provided them for you.

Our towelling is a 600g 100% cotton towel that is changed daily. Again if you needed more we would have happily provided them for you,. We also provide complimentary pool towels for those who wish to make use of the 12m indoor heated pool.

I am glad to hear that you found the portion size to your liking and I am sure you can appreciate that as part of a large group the chef does need to have some idea of what you may all like to eat and by doing this helps us deliver you a superior product and portion size.

The building only has two floors and we have a total of nine rooms on the ground floor with many of these now fully refurbished and including walk-in wet rooms, and upgraded amenities. This allows us to accommodate the majority of requests for easy access as we did with your own group.

I am very sorry to hear that you had an issue with your water pressure. When you brought it to our attention we immediately called in our plumber who you will be delighted to hear has been working on the issue for the last two days and has solved the issue.

The bar pricing represents some of the best value in Falmouth and is some cases is as much as 20% lower than some of the hotels in area and lower still than some of the local hostelries. We pride ourselves on ensuring the range is both diverse with price points to match each persons needs. We offer full ranges of Cornish Ales, Cornish Gins and alike as well as entry priced items for all. As you know we offer an extensive range of wines, sparkling wines and champagne by the glass and by the bottle. All of these are listed in our full wine list which is available with your meal on request or from the bar. The team would have been happy to talk you through the different options available.

The hotel is perfectly situated to make the best of all that Falmouth has to offer. We are one of very few hotels that is equally spaced between both the beaches and the town and the majority of guests do need to make use of both. The beaches are 0.5 miles from the hotel and the main high street is also exactly 0.5 miles from the hotel. I am sure you would agree this is not a long way. There is a free shuttle that runs all day until 4.30 and after a taxi can be as little as £2.50 depending how far away you are from the hotel.

We cannot see in any way how this differs from what we say on the tin and as far as not recommending or returning, you are well aware that you have been asked to not return to the hotel at anytime. I trust that this has helped to balance the views expressed by this guest. we are very proud of our team, their overwhelming friendliness, desire to serve and quality of food and look forward to welcoming you all to Cornwall this season. If you have any special requests then please let us know and we will move heaven and earth to make it happen.

My Son and Daughter-in-law were married in April 2014 at the Merchants Manor. The hotel excelled. The waiters and waitresses were excellent and we heard nothing but praise from the guests staying that weekend. As the parents of the groom we couldn't have wished for a better venue and the attention to detail was more than we could have hoped for. We were delighted with our rooms and the beds were really comfortable the room was light and airy. Thank you Merchants Manor for making the day so memorable.

Room Tip: Room 44 was excellent with balcony and no noise what so ever

I have just read a review and felt there are some people who must have a moan !! maybe they should research the area before making a hotel booking and look for a hotel that can accommodate all their needs. ( some people thrive on complaining !!)
I visit this hotel every week and use the gym and swimming pool and have a relaxed coffee with a friend. The gym has recently been built and I agree the swimming pool area is a little dated but very clean, I'm sure the pool will be updated in the near future, the improvements that have taken place throughout the hotel since the new owners have move in are tremendous. The owners and staff are all so helpful and friendlyand will always have time to have a casual chat and see that we enjoyed our day ,

I stayed here recently with my wife and found the hotel to be seriously lacking in many respects. It is on high ground, well away from the town centre shops and museums etc railway station, and beaches, To get to town there is a weekday-only bus service every 20 minutes that operates between approximately 9am and 430pm. Otherwise it is a £3.50 (minimum) taxi service, or a 25 minute walk making an evening visit to the towns facilities somewhat difficult. Not very good if you are disabled. The food is good, but there are two domestic toasters in the breakfast room - I have never seen slower ones! Impossible when the restaurant is busy! And the bar prices are very high. The rooms are on two floors but there is no lift. The first-floor rooms suffer from a severe water shortage to the showers and hand basin. By severe I mean SEVERE, at best just a trickle, and at other times there was none. Complaints to the management got no response. This problem has been reported in the past on Trip Adviser but obviously nothing has been done about it. The only good thing about this hotel is the staff. Although young and obviously still learning they were always very polite and smartly dressed, There is a pool and gym area but this was not used so cannot comment. There is plenty of parking space but on gravel. We think weddings are where the managements main interest is. My advice - stay away unless you are getting married - and then don't use the first floor rooms!!

I had a presentation evening at the Merchants Manor and discovered a real beauty in the heart of Falmouth! We had a very warm welcome and the room for the event (the library) was prepared with very good taste. The antique furnitures and old books ( including an amazing coffee table made with antique books) added a magic touch. The nibbles and fingers food divine and so well presented that you wouldn't want to eat and served by professional and smiley members of staff.
If you are considering any event this is no doubt the place to hire.
