stayed for 3 nights, rooms very clean, but very dated, not the refurbished ones shown in pictures, staff very friendly. not a place to stay if youre under 70. breakfast ok , nothing special, too quiet , felt unable to have chat with husband at table, others able to hear conversation ,so quiet. don't think id stay again.

The gardens are lovely; the staff are welcoming and extremely helpful. Room was fine: clean and well furnished.
It's all a bit faded, with an older clientele, and a feeling that it's been overtaken by events. (However, on balance that's probably better than the obnoxious 'cool' hotels that have sprung up all over Cornwall to catch the Metropolitan trade).
Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice and good coffee on offer; dinner was a distinct disappointment. Better to go into Mawnan Smith to the pub there.

I live locally so I haven't stayed in the hotel. However, I have recently had both lunch and a cream tea there. The garden is breathtaking, especially at this time of year. It deserves to be much better known. I took a visiting relative for lunch over the school Easter holidays and was surprised to find we were the only people in the restaurant. We had drinks first in the lovely new bar area. The food was delicious: simple, fresh and local.

My husband and I are keen walkers and love the walk to the Meudon along the coastal path from Maenporth beach (east) or Mawnan Church (west). Dog loving visitors please note that unlike the other beaches in the area, the Meudon's beach Bream Cove doesn't have a dog ban in the summer. On Bank Holiday Monday we asked the hotel if we could park our car in their car park so we could have a walk and return for a cream tea. The garden was looking even more stunning than on our previous visit. The cream tea was generous, delicious and great value. Our little dog was delighted to be offered a bowl of water and a biscuit. As it had started to rain we sat in the newly refurbished bridge area, which has stunning views over the garden and out to sea. We will certainly be returning. I cannot understand why the garden is not much better known and the restaurant isn't packed; the hotel is one of Cornwall's hidden gems. The hotel is the perfect place for a wedding or another special occasion. It's also very handy for walkers to stop off for refreshments. Highly recommended!

We had booked for two nights but stayed on for an extra night as we were so impressed with the location, food and service offered at this charming hotel. The gardens are delightful and the cove just below the hotel is an added bonus as indeed is the direct access to the coastal path. We will certainly return to the Meudon and feel we have found a special place in this lovely county.

Recently stayed in the family suite. Spacious adjoining rooms, but all together looking tired – stains on the carpet and ill matching furniture. Definitely in need of refurbishment (from the reviews it sounds like some rooms have been and others not. This was definitely a have not). The main bathroom had been revamped, looked lovely and had a good selection of fluffy white towels, but poor shower pressure, while the other bathroom had peeling paint. Complementary teas and coffees were in short supply with one pack of biscuits between the three of us. At over £250 for a one night stay, we were expecting more luxury.
We encountered a couple of problems – the tv didn’t work and the bed broke as soon as we sat on it, but both problems were rectified quickly by the friendly, helpful staff.
The breakfast was traditional and there were limited choices, but cooked nicely and the waiting staff were attentive to our needs. We didn’t have dinner, so can’t comment on this.
The beautiful gardens were the highlight of staying at the Meudon. The camelias were in full bloom and the path leads down to a lovely beach that we had all to ourselves. This made up for what was otherwise a disappointing stay.

After visiting Cornish Spring gardens for several years we have discovered the Meudon. Conveniently situated at Mawnan Smith near to several open gardens- but why bother with any others when they have their own garden and grounds leading down to a small beach. There are HUGE new Zealand ferns and a truly mind blowing mature deep pink magnolia in full bloom for our visit. The price for the two of us was £99 p.nt b&b and only £25/£30 for a delicious 3 course dinner, we could not fault the food with its tasty local ingredients. It was a shame that with the dark evenings at this time of year a few solar powered lights could not have twinkled to us as we sat overlooking the garden in the excellent restaurant in the original old building. Yes the rooms are in more modern blocks but again our view over the garden gave it a character of its own and the ensuite was spotless. Certainly a visit to be repeated

Room Tip: go for a garden view

An olde world style hotel in a beautiful Cornish Garden that goes down to its own private beach off the SW Coastal Path. Food is good and local, particularly the fish. Some rooms are a little dated and the hotel is undergoing gradual renovation to bring it up to date, We visited having seen it in 'The Hotel Inspector' on Chanel 5. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be going back again next year.

Room Tip: Dog friendly rooms with patio and large suite are excellent.
