“A warm welcome for travellers human and canine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013

This is what an English country pub should be. Log fires, a proper bar devoid of Muzak and filled with chat. Good food, fairly priced wine and local beers. The rooms are basic but clean and comfy and the staff are friendly. And the most beloved spaniel was made excessively welcome. . Ok so as the reviewer below points out there is limited wifi but there is laughter, friendliness and first thing in the morning wonderful birdsong. Thanks for a great stay...keep it your way.

We googled "Dog friendly hotels Falmouth" and this was a clear favourite on TripAdvisor, so we booked Wednesday night and planned to stay Thursday too all being well. It wasn't so we didn't.

The plus points: The setting is attractive and well-maintained and the large bar area was nicely laid out with a log fire and traditional pub furnishings and decorations. The bar served a good range of drinks and the Sharps bitter (recommended by a knowing customer) was excellent! The kitchen seems to be a hive of industry and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner - one steak and ale pie, one duck breast. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing! The dining and bar staff were sunny, smiley, bright and quick. We had a warm welcome and a spacious, comfortable external room called 'Alex'. The bed was very comfortable and we awoke well rested after a quiet night.

However, when booking I asked one crucial question - "is wifi available?". Yes it was. We were looking forward to a geocaching trip and needed to plan next day's adventures, so brought along a tablet and laptop to spend a couple of hours doing just that. It turned out that wifi was only available in reception and the breakfast room - no useable signal in the bar and nothing at all in 'Alex'. Our planning amounted to a swift web search during & after breakfast. Unsurprisingly, it proved inadequate and led to a frustratingly haphazard day. Incredibly, a member of the hotel staff remarked on the limited wifi access and said they liked it that way because the wifi signal upset one of their regular customers - the laws of electromagnetic physics seem to be reinvented here!! Not sure? Google American Heart Association or "wifi health and safety".

The misrepresentation of wifi access combined with an intermittently functioning shower (brilliant when it worked but it suddenly cut off) and non-working towel rail spoiled what could have been a lovely stay. We're sorry to be critical when we encountered such a nice inn with pleasant, cheerful staff, but that's how it was. We won't be staying here again.

Room Tip: 'Alex' and 'Grace' are ideal if you have a dog and want a quiet night. Don't be...

We are sorry that we may have misled this reviewer but we do have free wifi in 5 of our 11 rooms
the reception area and breakfast room, the bar area is a haven because there is no mobile signal or wifi and we actually prefer it this way as it makes people use the oldest social network known to man, the pub. we have fixed the intermittent fault with the shower. we would love it if the above reviewer did come back and stay in one of our rooms with internet.

We go about 2 times a month to eat and alway recommend family and friends stay here. If there is ever a problem with anything and you point it out its dealt with straight away. The steak and kidney puddings are to die for.

Second time of staying. Will, Lisa and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Food excellent, ale very good indeed. A simply traditional freehouse that is few and far between in this country. Dogs most welcome.

Room Tip: Top tip is stay in the annex to the side of the Inn.

We took a trip to the Trengilly Wartha Inn having seen it recommended in the welcome pack of an apartment we were staying at just above Maenporth Beach.

It is a pretty pub set in gorgeous countryside. The interior has the feel of a proper pub and is decorated with loads of beer mats across the beamed ceiling.

We opted for the sunday roast (beef) which was superb. This was followed by the cheeseboard which was equally good. The children had ice cream - once again this was delicious. Overall the meal was fantastic.

As the meal was washed down with two pints of superb Hunny Bunny from Skinners Brewery I could not have left happier.

Top tip - take a sat nav to find it and someone to drive you home!

On a visit to the National Trust's Glendurgan Gardens nearby we saw Trengilly Wartha Country pub labelled on the map and thought we'd give it a go.

It is a quaint and quirky English pub tucked away in the quiet country roads of Cornwall. I can see why the inn has won so many awards for its food, drink and lodging. It is a local community pub but is very welcoming to tourists. They were particularly welcoming to our young toddler who was having temper tantrum at the time. The private conservatory for families was particularly useful in this situation, slong with the provision of toys and kids books.

Local drinks were complemented by a varied menu. We opted for Guinea Fowl and Vension which were very tasty and filling meals. At £15 each, these were quite expensive but providd the opportunity for a nice treat and some genuine local cuisine.

Highly recommended to those lookng for a genuine country inn experience off the tourist trail.
