“Dolphins Schmolfins”
Review of Orca Sea Safaris

Cracking way to spend two hours. we had to get kitted up in waterproofs and I have to say I was a little disappointed to only get a bit of spray. We went out looking for cetacea apparently but only saw a couple of Grey Seals and a glimpse of some Harbour Porpoise. Unfortunately the Dolphins and Basking Sharks were disguising themselves as waves, despite this we had lots of fun.

This small operation, based n ear the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth, proved proved very competent, safe and friendly. They offer three sailings a day of two hours each and when we looked seriously most were fully booked - only 12 places on their very modern boat.

Our group of six booked online which was efficient and easy, paying at booking. Unfortunately (for the company) the other group, also of six, failed to show and had not apparently paid in advance. So we had a 'private' cruise and plenty of space.

The captain paid close attention to our preferences and especially those of our six-year-old who absolutely loved the event. We toured the sea around Falmouth, not seeing too much wild life, except for one close encounter with a basking shark, but learning much about the ecology, history, economy and geography of the region, delivered in a most engaging way. And the trip finishes in the Maritime Museum (included) which is worth half a day of anyone's time.

Warmly recommended

Booked online, very easy. Turned up for the 4pm tour, weather was fab. the skipper, Ian, was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately did not see any mammals, but saw a variety of gulls and other birds. I guess it is just the luck off the draw, but you do go a long way out in search of mammals, so its not like they don't try. All in all we all had a great experience bombing along the sea in a rib. I would recommend it and the free entry to the museum is a nice touch. Thank you Caroline. John, Sonia and Louie (ages 42,41,13)

First thing I want to say is that before I went on this, I was fully aware that orca safari cannot guarantee you will see any wildlife or control the weather, never the less I was disappointed that we didn't see any wildlife at all, except a sea gull. For what was just an enjoyable boat trip. It was expensive £80 for two people. The commentary during the trip was sparse and at times inaudable due to rind noise engine noise and a poor PA system. The organiser Caroline, was very knowledgable and friendly and made us very welcome. I suppose my true feelings were that is should be advertised as a pleasant boat trip with an outside chance of seeing wildlife. And maybe priced a lot less.

Thankyou for taking the time to add a review. As you stated we make it very clear that wildlife cannot be guaranteed. It is enevitable there will always be some trips that are quieter than others, this can happen between trips on the same day. You will see from our recorded sightings that we see a wide variety of species. I will make sure that the PA system is tested; during the safety brief it is made clear that you should inform us if you cannot hear clearly. We encourage discussion at the end of each trip as often having a conversation face to face is a lot easier.

We enjoyed our trip out with Orca. The guide, Steve, was really knowledgeable about the area and wildlife. Steve worked really hard to get to the best places and give us the best opportunity of seeing wildlife. We saw plenty of birds and had a brief glimpse of a seal!
Thought the trip was really great and good value for money - it also includes free entry to the maritime museum, which is a nice bonus!
Matt and Roisin.
