Clean white cotton napkins, thick carpets, high ceilings, quiet unassuming warm environment, and calm polite friendly staff - perfect setting to relax and enjoy beaufitul Falmouth. Thank goodness the kids weren't here !!!

The dining room is grand and classic, with a pianist tinkling away. The food, served with smart aplomb, was delicious.

I was searching for a cheap B&B, and reluctantly decided to go with a single room costing slightly more than my £45 budget - but it was cetainly the right decision.

There is nothing about the place that is unsuitable for kids / children, but for me this was an adult environment, where drifting into easy conversation with other residents would have been harder and more distracting with kids - maybe its just my kids !!!

I'm only 40 but this place is an old school hotel that have retained all the things we all treasure about staying in hotels - Travelodge and Premier inn have their place in the world - but the slight price differences do not compensate for those comforts lost from staying in a real hotel.

My single room was cosy with an ensuite. The Lady who complained that her hotel room was smaller than her room at home, with a mere 4ft 6in double bed may have a point in relation to modern expecations for bed and room size. At the time when this gorgeous hotel was built the population weren't as spoilt as today, with super king this, and acres of that. And the things that have been moved aside to make way for the bigger beds and larger rooms are the things (as said above) that make this place such a treasure.

oooh and also there is a free golf course fo residents and a pool.

I had a big birthday to celebrate so the family decided to all get to together for the weekend, we booked a double room sea faceing a bit small but fine a single room and a family room which was more like a suite they were all perfectly fine.
The food was and service in the resteraunt was amazing, we had a 8 and 11 year old with us and they were well catered for.
I would certainly go back for another weekend in the winter The hotel had a winter offer so even better.
All the family enjoyed their stay.

My wife and I stayed here for a short break on a DB&B basis and cannot praIse the hotel and its staff high enough. We had a lovely superior room with sea view over the bay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, especially in the restaurant, where the food was beautifully cooked and served, with an excellent choice of wine served at the correct temperature.

So basicailly the wife and I took the mother in law out for lunch as it was her 70th birthday, choosing the Duchy for a great location and what I was led to believe good food. Location well you cant mess that one up luckily., that was and will always be there, but the food simply let the whole experience down. Firstly my medium rare steak came out well done and the bearnaise was made with basil !!!! Bearnaise sauce = Hollandaise + tarragon, I mean what the hell is going on in this kitchen and the moules marinere had the same affliction of basil, surley its parsley you should be using and to round it off the eton mess, on the menu was spelt eaton, does nobody check these things and also had basil syrup in it and the cream was over whipped almost butter!!...... This isnt 2 rosette food, I have eaten far better food in restaurants in town with no accolades...... Come on you still have a good reputation but too many incidents like this and the tide will turn.

We arrived too late for lunch, so ordered what turned out to be a sumptuous afternoon tea served on the terrace, with the most beautiful view overlooking Falmouth Bay.
Service was excellent throughout, from the restaurant to the professional, courteous and helpful reception (and I had lots of contact with them for various reasons including their posting my many postcards!)). The food in the resturant was very good on the standard menu but reached 'wow' on the fine dining menu. The intense flavours created had to be tasted to be believed. I actually ordered the same starter 3 times because I coudn't see how anything else could better it !!!
The room was comfortable and clean, and the only reason I slept badly was because I always do on holiday.
The hotel is ideally suited for a walk to and round Pendennis Castle, a fascinating place and worthy of at least 2 hours of your time.

We went for this hotel assured of great food and accommodation. We booked a deluxe room hoping to have all the trimmings. Unfortunately the room was smaller than my bedroom and we had only a 4ft 6inch bed!! One side of the bed was virtually against the wall, a 5ft bed is surely the norm?? Do not be mislead by the internet description of the food on offer, Fine Dining is not what you will get. The staff are ok! they insist on a dress code for diner, but i have had better food served to me in Jeans & T-Shirt. Very disappointing

We stayed here for the fourth time. each time the service has been of the highest quality. The food both breakfast and dinneer are superb. We were upgraded in our room for no additional charge. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the sea and watching the sun go down before taking advantage of the fine dining menu was an experiance not to be missed
